DONOR COORDINATION GROUP MEETING WAS HELD AT MIA ACADEMY
MIA Academy hosted donor coordination group meeting which was attended by the representatives of U.S. State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) International Migration Organization (IOM) European Council and EU mission as well as attaches of Austria, France and Latvia.
At the meeting rector of the Academy Givi Mikanadze provided guests with detailed information on planned and ongoing activities of the educational facility.
Members of donor coordination group discussed results of needs analysis and the prospects of implementation of joint projects in the future.
At the end of the meeting guests were shown academy infrastructure, study classes and gym, mock jury court and BCP, forensic mobile lab, real and virtual shooting ranges.
MIA SEIZED DRUGS IN ESPECIALLY LARGE QUANTITIES IN BATUMI
The officers of Achara police department as a result of investigative activities, on the basis of operative information, detained citizen of Azerbaijan R.H. (DoB 1979) for illegal purchase and keeping of drugs in especially large quantities. The mentioned person was detained in vicinities of Sarpi BCP.
During the personal search of the detainee law enforcers seized 223 packages of drug substance which according to the expertise contains 1,7166gr of heroin. Police also seized 27 pills containing buprenorphine. Investigation is in progress on the fact of illegal purchase and keeping of drugs in especially large quantities, article 260,VI part, sub-paragraph A of the Criminal Code.
FACT OF THE ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY SOLVED BY MIA
The officers of Kvemo Kartli and Achara police departments as a result of jointly held investigative activities Azerbaijani citizen M.O. (DoB 1980) was detained for armed robbery. Law enforcers, during the personal search of the detainee, seized Ekol pistol as evidence.
Investigation established that M.O arrived to Georgia from Azerbaijan and got accommodated in one of the hotels of Rustavi. He planned to assault currency exchange booth located in Batumi, however he was unable to fulfill his plan, owning to the effective operative work of the law enforcers. Detainee has pleaded guilty. Investigation is in progress on the fact of plotting armed assault, article 18-179 of the criminal code.
DRUG DEALERS DETAINED BY MIA
The officers of the central criminal police department and kvemo kartli division of the same department as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities detained S.H. (DoB 1993) previously convicted M.V. (DoB 1983) previously convicted Z.V. (DoB 1983) and also previously convicted A.T.(DoB 1979) for illegal purchase, keeping and selling of drugs.
Investigation established that detainees sold drugs on the regular basis. During the search activities held in S.H’s house in Ponitchala, law enforcers seized 0,568249 gr of heroin. Policemen also seized 24 packages of heroin already sold to a number of citizens.
Drug test revealed that all of the detainees were under the influence of drugs.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of illegal purchase, keeping and selling of drugs in large quantities, article 260, I and III and IV parts of the Criminal Code.
MIA REPRESENTATIVE TOOK PART IN THE EVENT DEDICATED TO THE DAY AGAINST FIGHT WITH TRAFFICKING
At Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Head of Project Management division of MIA International Relations Department- Maka Peradze, took part in the event dedicated to the day against fight with trafficking.
At the meeting representatives of the state agencies presented results and achievements held in the sphere of the fight against trafficking. Georgia gained significant positive results in the direction of the fight against trafficking which was noted in the report of CE Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) and US State Department’s annual report.
Maka Peradze discussed detection, investigation and prevention measures carried out by MIA with regards to cases of trafficking as well as existed international cooperation in this direction. She also provided students with comprehensive information on trafficking risks and ways of self-protection.
THREE PERSONS DETAINED FOR CYBERCRIME
The officers of the division for the fight against cybercrime under the central criminal police department as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities detained members of the organized criminal group: D.P. (DoB 1978) V.K.(DoB 1987) and K.D. (DoB 1970).
Investigation established that according to previously elaborated plan, from April to August of the current year, detainees appropriated personal and bank data of a number of citizens by deception. Detainees appropriated sums of the citizens, allocated in their internet bank accounts, they also took lawns on the name of others from various microfinance organizations. In total criminals appropriated 40 770 GEL and 3362 US dollars.
During the search activities in apartment temporarily owned by D.P. law enforcers seized 19 sim cards and plastic cards, 1 portable computer, internet modem, 2 mobile phones and notebook with entries. During the personal search of D.P. policemen also seized 2 mobile phones which was applied for committing crime and sim cards placed in the mentioned cell phones. As a result of the personal search of V.K. police officers also seized one mobile phone with two sim cards also used for committing crimes.
In order to identify and detain other members of the organized crime, intensive operative-search and investigative activities are underway.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of stealing, illegal access to computer information, illegal shifting of the computer data( article 177, IV part, sub-paragraph A, article 180 IV part, sub-paragraph A, article 184, II part, sub-paragraph A and article 286, III part, sub-paragraph A of the Criminal Code).
ILLEGAL FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION SEIZED BY MIA IN LAGODEKHI
The officers of Kakheti police department as a result of operative and investigative activities detained G.K. (DoB 1973) in Tamariani village for illegal purchase and keeping of firearms and ammunition
During the searching activities held in detainee’s house law enforcers seized 660 bullets and unregistered hunting rifle. The mentioned firearm and ammunition is suitable for shooting according to the results of the expertise. Detainee has already pleaded guilty. Investigation is in progress on the fact of illegal purchase and keeping of firearms and ammunition, article 236, Ii part of the Criminal Code.
6 DETAINED IN CONNECTION WITH THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE AT N48 POLLING STATION IN KIZIL-AJLO
The officers of Kvemo Kartli police department detained six persons, based on the decision of the court. The detainees are as follows: R.Z (DoB 1997) M.N. (DoB 1994) B.M. (DoB 1996) H.K. (DoB 1996) V.K. (DoB 1992) and A.N. (DoB 1993). The mentioned persons were detained in connection with the incident that took place at N48 polling station in Kizil-ajlo, Marneuli on the charges of Interference into Works of Election Commission and resistance offered to police officer.
Investigation established that the mentioned persons, during the incident at the polling station, were distinguished for their extremely aggressive behavior. They called on citizens to break into the polling station, steal the ballot box and threw stones to the direction of the police officers mobilized for preserving public order. As a result of the confrontation several policemen, including deputy director of Kvemo Kartli police department, were injured. Offenders failed to steal the ballot box. Additional police forces have been mobilized at the site. As a result of police intervention the situation was deescalated.
Kvemo Kartli Police Department conducts investigation under the article 162 (1) envisaging Interference into Works of Election Commission or violence/threat of violence in the polling station, place of election commission location or the adjacent territory.
Law enforcers are carrying out operative-investigative activities in order to reveal others involved in the incident and detain them.
PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCE SEIZED BY MIA
The officers of the Central Criminal Police Department as a result of operative-searching activities detained T.M. (DoB 1968) in Tbilisi. During the personal search of the detainee policemen seize 150 packages of psychotropic substance.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of illegal purchase and keeping of psychotropic substance, article 260, Ii part of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
CONSCRIPTS OF STRATEGIC OBJECTS PROTECTION DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATED IN OATH TAKING CEREMONY
384 conscripts of Strategic Objects Protection Department participated in oath taking ceremony held in Tbilisi, Gori and Kutaisi. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Merab Malania, Director of Strategic Objects Protection Department Ivane Zurabishvili, personnel of the same department and family members of the conscripts.
Conscripts will undergo one-year compulsory military service Strategic Objects Protection Department. They will study military subjects and acquire essential practical skills of professional soldiers. They will also participate in various sports events and will be provided with free medical service and nourishment.
After the completion of the compulsory military service the conscripts having completed the service period with excellence shall be employed in different units of the MIA if they pass the relevant contest successfully.
