President of Turkmenistan Meets with Prime Minister of Kazakhstan

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, who arrived in our country as the head of a representative delegation to attend the First Caspian Economic Forum in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

Welcoming the guest, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted that Kazakhstan has been and remains our country’s important partner. We hold dear and highly value the bilateral relations we have developed over the years, while attaching great importance to promoting them in bilateral and multilateral formats, the head of Turkmenistan said, having expressed his firm belief that the constructive interstate dialogue will continue to advance steadily.

After thanking the head of state for the warm reception and recognizing the significance Kazakhstan attaches to strengthening the relations with Turkmenistan, the guest conveyed greetings from President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who had also wished the Forum every success.

Askar Mamin emphasized that Kazakhstan fully supports the initiatives put forward by the President of Turkmenistan to promote peace, stability and well-being regionally and globally.

The Turkmen leader thanked the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan for the warm words, and passed on his best wishes to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, and the people of Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged their views on issues across a broad spectrum of the Turkmen-Kazak cooperation, discussed the implementation progress of several interstate economic projects and prospects for closer partnership in the strategically important trade-economic, transport and logistics, and energy sectors.

Our country is committed to its open-door and good-neighbour policy, and is taking a series of practical steps to build the transport-transit corridor for the countries in the region and in the world, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said. 

On the subject of cross-border cooperation, the discussion focused on issues of developing the neighbor states’ transit potential and implementing energy projects initiated by Turkmenistan. The parties also recognized the importance of deepening the cooperation in the field of global energy security and of joining efforts to tackle global environmental challenges.


In the light of the present-day realities, ecology is seen as one of the priority area of cooperation, where Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are closely collaborating, particularly, within the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, currently chaired by our country. Much attention is also given to joint efforts to tackle the Caspian Sea-related issues.

Our countries have considerable potential for enhancing the trade-economic cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, having stressed, in this context, the role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Kazak Commission for Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation.

The sides also indicated their mutual desire to implement new joint projects, including in the gas chemical industry as well as their readiness to advance the constructive partnership bilaterally and within international organizations.

Having praised the high degree of organization of the events, held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone as part of the First Caspian Economic Forum, Askar Mamin expressed his firm belief that the constructive foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan would contribute to closer cooperation in the Caspian Sea.

At the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan affirmed the two countries’ commitment to fostering the interstate relations.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin who came to Ashgabat for participation of the session of the Heads of the Governments of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Having expressed the gratitude for warm welcome and having highlighted the importance that Kazakhstan pays to the strengthening of links with Turkmenistan, the guest conveyed warm greetings and best wishes of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Head of the State Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Askar Mamin noted that his country highly appreciates and comprehensively supports progressive policy and important international initiatives of the President of fraternal Turkmenistan, which are aimed at consolidation of the foundations of peace, stability and prosperity in regional and global scales.

Having welcomed the guest and expressed the gratitude for good words, the Head of the State conveyed his best wishes to President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and to the first President of this country Nursultan Nazarbayev and to all people of Kazakhstan, with whom our country is connected by old friendship, fraternity and neighbouring relations, which make a base of cooperation in new historical age.

Taking the opportunity, Turkmen leader congratulated Askar Mamin on the appointment to the post of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, having wished him great success in responsible government activity.

High assessment has been given during the meeting to the level and dynamics of development of interstate dialog. The sides have also exchanged the opinions on wide spectrum of cooperation including under competent organizations.

The President of Turkmenistan highlighted that developing bilateral relations, we rest on old traditions of fraternity and mutual sympathy of Turkmen and Kazakh people, commitment of our states to the principles of peace-loving and humanity, which is a good base for cooperation under international structures as well as mutual understanding of important subjects of global and regional development where our countries have similar or close approaches.

The Head of Turkmenistan and his guest discussed perspectives of expansion of the partnership in such strategic directions as trade and economic, transport and logistic spheres, energy. In this context, the importance of existing transnational North – South railway as well as new initiative of Turkmen side for construction of modern highway Turkmenbashy – Kazakhstan, which would also increase the volume of trade, passenger and cargo traffic between two neighbouring countries.

The subject of development of transit potential of two states, implementation of energy projects actively promoted by Turkmenistan as well as participation of representatives of Kazakhstan in the first Caspian Economic Forum, which would be held in in Avaza National tourist zone in August and exhibition of innovative technologies timed to the forum, have been highlighted during discussion of the subjects of transboundary cooperation.

Our countries have big capabilities for expansion of trade and economic cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, having stated the importance of activity of Intergovernmental Turkmen – Kazakh Commission for economic, scientific, technical and cultural potential in definition of perspective directions of interstate dialog.

Mutual interest has been expressed in implementation of new joint projects including in petrochemical industry, which are aimed at full-scale involvement of existing economic and resource potential of neighbouring countries, willingness to expansion of constructive dialog both in bilateral format as well as under the Commonwealth of Independent States.

In this context, the President of Turkmenistan expressed the confidence that coming session of the Heads of the Governments of the CIS would make contribution to further development of multilateral interstate dialog and strengthening of friendly relations between the states of the Commonwealth and would support the implementation of its potential in number of directions.

Development of fruitful dialog in cultural and humanitarian sphere as well as in tourism and sport has also been discussed.

Having noted high level of events held in Turkmenistan as a country chairing the CIS in 2019, Askar Mamin expressed the confidence that constructivism, which is specific for foreign strategy of neutral Turkmenistan and which was reflected in the relations under the CIS, would give new stimulus for development of cooperation, the guest also highlighted the importance of the Resolution on cooperation between the United Nations Organization and International Fund for Saving of Aral Sea adopted by the UN General Assembly on May 28, which is to support the prosperity of the countries of Aral Sea basin, initiated by the President of Turkmenistan.

In the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan expressed confidence that interstate relations would continue to be steadily developed and filled with new content.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan Zhandos Asanov has also taken part in the meeting.

President Margvelashvili and President Nazarbayev Hold an Extended Meeting

Following a tete-a-tete meeting, the President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Nursultan Nazarbayev have held an extended meeting.
The meeting has been attended by the Georgian delegation, which is comprised of the First Deputy Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance, Mr. Dimitri Kumsishvili, the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Mr. Zurab Pataradze, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Davit Zalkaliani, the Head of the Administration of President, Mr. Giorgi Abashishvili, the Secretary of the National Security Council, Mr. Davit Rakviashvili, the Advisor to the President for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tengiz Pkhaladze, the Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Zurab Abashidze and members of the Parliament.
The parties have mainly discussed the prospects of further strengthening trade-economic cooperation between Georgia and Kazakhstan.
President Margvelashvili has congratulated his counterpart on a successful opening of the international exhibition, "EXPO 2017" and noted that he will also take part in this important forum.
President Margvelashvili has invited President Nazarbayev to Georgia and pointed out that such visits give a significant impetus to further development of bilateral, political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian relations.
As he further noted, Kazakhstan, Georgia's partner, is one of the leading investors in the country and the Government of Georgia does not spare efforts to strengthen cooperation in all possible spheres and identify new areas of cooperation.
The parties have underlined that Georgia and Kazakhstan have a great potential for the development of bilateral, trade and economic relations and more efforts should be made to fully use this potential.
Considering international agreements signed by Georgia in the field of trade, Georgia presents favorable conditions for further expanding trade relations with Kazakhstan.
In regard to developing relations between the two countries, the parties have highlighted Georgia’s role, as a transit corridor, connecting Europe, Caucasus, and Asia and emphasized that Georgia actively works to become a logistical center in the region.
For this purpose Georgia participates in international projects, such as: the new Anaklia port, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and East-West highway projects.
As underlined at the meeting, Georgia has historically been playing an important role in the Silk Road project for many years and is still involved in numerous transport projects.
Georgia welcomes all new initiatives in these areas and is ready to discuss interesting and mutually beneficial suggestions in the collaboration process with partners.
The meeting has also been focused on cooperation in the area of tourism. As noted, tourism between Georgia and the Republic of Kazakhstan develops rapidly on a daily basis.
