The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has met with the members of the Council Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia

On 29 September 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili held a conclusive meeting with the representatives of the Council  Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST).
The sides focused special attention on granting a European perspective to Georgia and the efforts made in this regard. The COEST delegation once again congratulated Georgia on the European Council’s historic decision of June 2022 officially paving the way for the country to join the European Union. The European Union emphasized once again its firm support for Georgia's European future, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Yesterday's visit of the Belarusian delegation to the occupied territory of Abkhazia was strongly and unanimously condemned.
The COEST delegation also welcomed Georgia’s impressive progress on the road to European integration and its comprehensive reforms.
Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed Georgia’s foreign policy priorities, the security environment in the region and the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia. Special emphasis was put on the need of the European Union’s active involvement to address the threats facing the region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs once again confirmed the Georgian government’s strong readiness to implement the country's European agenda and priorities, including its obligations under the Association Agreement.
The COEST delegation evaluated its visit to Georgia highly positively.

  • THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF GEORGIA, ILIA DARCHIASHVILI HAS PAID AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE STATE OF ISRAEL

    The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili and the Minister of Economy and Industry of the State of Israel, Nir Barkat signed a joint declaration on completion of the technical and economic feasibility study for a free trade agreement between Georgia and the State of Israel. 

    Before the signing ceremony, the Minister had a meeting with the Minister of Economy and Industry of Israel. Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed current issues on the agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and the great potential of cooperation in the economic area, including bilateral trade, investments and tourism.
    Within the framework of the two-day visit, Ilia Darchiashvili will meet with his Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, and the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog.
    Meetings with the chairman of the Knesset, ministers of economy, tourism and internal affairs are also planned. The Minister of Foreign Affairs will lay a wreath at the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Centre on behalf of the Georgian people.

  • ILIA DARCHIASHVILI PARTICIPATES IN THE MEETING OF THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION IN THE FORMAT OF INFORMAL DISCUSSION

    On 24 April 2023, within the framework of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) session, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili will attend a meeting with high-ranking representatives of the European Union and the foreign ministers of the Member States.

    Within the framework of the meeting, the main topic of discussions will be the enlargement of the European Union and the prospect for Georgia's accession; In addition, the priority directions of Georgia-EU relations and prospects for deepening cooperation will be discussed, as well as the progress achieved by Georgia in terms of fulfilling the 12 priorities of the European Commission.

    As part of the visit to Luxembourg, a bilateral meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with his counterpart is also planned.

  • ILIA DARCHIASHVILI HAS ATTENDED THE EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO THE GEORGIAN ALPHABET IN ROME

    On 20 April 2023, within the framework of his working visit to the Republic of Italy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, attended the "Touch of Heaven" exhibition dedicated to the Georgian alphabet. The exhibition was held in the historical building of the Florence Palace, where the works of calligrapher and artist, Giorgi Sisauri were displayed.
    Within the framework of the exhibition, 38 uppercase letters and 19 religious themes were presented.
    The event was organized by the Embassy of Georgia to the Holy See, through the support of the Dante Alighieri Society.

  • ILIA DARCHIASHVILI HAS MET WITH DIDIER REYNDERS

    Within the framework of his visit to Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a meeting with the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders.

    The main focus of the meeting was on the process of Georgia's EU integration, the progress on the implementation of the European Commission’s 12 recommendations, and on Georgia’s legislative rapprochement with the European Union.

    At the meeting, great attention was also paid to the reforms implemented in Georgia in terms of justice and the rule of law. During the conversation, the Georgian side once again confirmed that legislative rapprochement with the European Union, both in justice and other areas, remains one of the main priorities of Georgia.
