Ilia Darchiashvili has met with his Turkish counterpart

Within the framework of the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to the Republic of Turkey, Ilia Darchiashvili met with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
According to the administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the sides noted with satisfaction the strategic partnership successfully developing between the two countries and acquiring an increasingly greater importance in terms of deepening bilateral relations, as well as regional cooperation.
The Ministers positively assessed the intensification of high-level relations between Georgia and Turkey. The visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili to the Republic of Turkey was positively evaluated. The sides expressed their readiness to work actively in the future and exchange  high-level bilateral visits. Special mention, in this regard, was made of the visit of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Georgia.
The Ministers highly appraised the activities of the Strategic Cooperation Council, which is an effective platform for strengthening relations in a multilateral format, and expressed the hope that the Council will meet in the near future.
Special attention was paid to priority areas of cooperation between Georgia and Turkey, including trade and economic contacts. The sides highlighted the successful results achieved in this regard, including increased trade turnover. The Ministers agreed to work at the level of agencies to strengthen trade and business ties between the two countries, and to hold the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Economic Council between Georgia and Turkey.
The Ministers noted with satisfaction the high level of mutual support between the countries. Ilia Darchiashvili thanked his Turkish colleague for his government's firm support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for Turkey's strong position regarding Georgia's foreign policy priorities.
The Ministers reviewed the security environment in the region. In this regard, Turkey's efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region were emphasized.
Speaking about the ongoing processes in the region, the Ministers highlighted Georgia's important role in ensuring stability and sustainable development in the South Caucasus. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey welcomed the first meeting held in Tbilisi between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia and expressed the hope that Georgia will play a positive role in ensuring peace in the region.
The Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Turkey welcomed the relations of the two countries in multilateral formats and especially noted the trilateral Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey format.
Discussions also focused on close people-to-people contacts. The sides welcomed the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Ministers were presented a commemorative medallion specially designed to mark the occassion at the initiative of the Embassy of Georgia to Turkey.

  • THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF GEORGIA, ILIA DARCHIASHVILI HAS PAID AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE STATE OF ISRAEL

    The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili and the Minister of Economy and Industry of the State of Israel, Nir Barkat signed a joint declaration on completion of the technical and economic feasibility study for a free trade agreement between Georgia and the State of Israel. 

    Before the signing ceremony, the Minister had a meeting with the Minister of Economy and Industry of Israel. Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed current issues on the agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and the great potential of cooperation in the economic area, including bilateral trade, investments and tourism.
    Within the framework of the two-day visit, Ilia Darchiashvili will meet with his Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, and the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog.
    Meetings with the chairman of the Knesset, ministers of economy, tourism and internal affairs are also planned. The Minister of Foreign Affairs will lay a wreath at the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Centre on behalf of the Georgian people.

  • ILIA DARCHIASHVILI PARTICIPATES IN THE MEETING OF THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION IN THE FORMAT OF INFORMAL DISCUSSION

    On 24 April 2023, within the framework of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) session, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili will attend a meeting with high-ranking representatives of the European Union and the foreign ministers of the Member States.

    Within the framework of the meeting, the main topic of discussions will be the enlargement of the European Union and the prospect for Georgia's accession; In addition, the priority directions of Georgia-EU relations and prospects for deepening cooperation will be discussed, as well as the progress achieved by Georgia in terms of fulfilling the 12 priorities of the European Commission.

    As part of the visit to Luxembourg, a bilateral meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with his counterpart is also planned.

  • ILIA DARCHIASHVILI HAS ATTENDED THE EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO THE GEORGIAN ALPHABET IN ROME

    On 20 April 2023, within the framework of his working visit to the Republic of Italy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, attended the "Touch of Heaven" exhibition dedicated to the Georgian alphabet. The exhibition was held in the historical building of the Florence Palace, where the works of calligrapher and artist, Giorgi Sisauri were displayed.
    Within the framework of the exhibition, 38 uppercase letters and 19 religious themes were presented.
    The event was organized by the Embassy of Georgia to the Holy See, through the support of the Dante Alighieri Society.

  • MEETING OF SHALVA PAPUASHVILI WITH THE OSCE CHAIRPERSON, THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER OF NORTH MACEDONIA

    The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani.

    Speaker Papuashvili thanked the North Macedonian politician for the visit and the support that OSCE renders to Georgia in this geopolitically complicated period.

    The Speaker dwelt on the support of Georgia to Ukraine and the Russia-Ukraine war repercussions on the region.

    Mr. Osmani expressed his gratitude for the active engagement of Georgia in the OSCE activity underlining that Georgia is a hub of regional initiatives and the support of diverse diplomacy.

    The parties touched upon the grave situation in the occupied regions of Georgia and affirmed the importance of the uninterruptedness of the Geneva Talks. The progress of Georgia and North Macedonia at the EU integration path has been highlighted. As B. Osmani emphasized, North Macedonia has acquired significant experience at the long EU integration path and is committed to sharing it with Georgia.

    The meeting was attended by MPs Nikoloz SamkharadzeKhatia TsilosaniTinatin Bokuchava and Ketevan Turazashvili.
