Irakli Garibashvili - Turkey as the most reliable friend

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Süleyman Soylu, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey today.

Meeting was focused on the friendly and partnerly relations existing between the two nations. It was noted that since regaining independence, Georgia has regarded Turkey as the most reliable friend. Strategic partnership between Georgia and Republic of Turkey is at a high level and it is important to further advance the current cooperation.

Productive cooperation between the law-enforcement agencies of Georgia and Republic of Turkey was highlighted at the meeting. Discussion was also devoted to the current security environment in the region of South Caucasus, impact of the military activities in Ukraine, need to support peace and stability in the region. The Prime Minister of Georgia believes that the latter is a key precondition for an overall development and prosperity in the region. That is the actual aim and goal of the Peaceful Neighbourhood Initiative of the Prime Minister of Georgia and it envisages the engagement of all three countries of the South Caucasus.

The Head of Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey for the unwavering support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia.

Süleyman Soylu conveyed warm greetings from Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey to Irakli Garibashvili.

Meeting held at the Government Administration was attended by H.E Fatma Ceren Yazgan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Georgia and Vakhtang Gomelauri, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

The Head of Government of Georgia thanked the President of the Czech Republic for his unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

  • Prime Minister of Georgia Meets President of the European Council

    Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Charles Michel, President of the European Council today.

    The Head of Government of Georgia shared information with the President of the European Council about the implementation of 12 recommendations issued by the European Union (EU). According to him, Georgia has achieved progress in every direction and the Government did its best to meet the recommendations, thereby noting that progress continues further. At the meeting with Charles Michel, Irakli Garibashvili stated that all 4 topics identified by EU officials at the recent meeting in Tbilisi that are expected to advance by the end of September, will be addressed in line with the recommendations made by the European Commission. MP Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Ruling Party held a media briefing about it today.
    The Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted that the country has leading positions on its quest to EU integration, as evidenced by the reports of the EU and that commitments assumed by the country towards reforms on its path to EU integration are solid. He also noted that Georgia deserves a status of an EU Candidate Country amidst the current geopolitical setting and in line with a merits-based approach. Irakli Garibashvili expressed his gratitude to Charles Michel for the support demonstrated in the process of EU integration of Georgia.

  • Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili meets new Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

    Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili held an introductory meeting with Meline Arakelian, new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Georgia.

    In the meeting at the Government Administration, the key directions of cooperation between Georgia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands were discussed.
    The discussed topics included the relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands which are characterized by a growing dynamic both on the bilateral level and within the frameworks of international organizations.
    Attention at the meeting was paid to the process of Georgia’s European integration. The Head of Government briefed the Ambassador on Georgia’s progress and the state of affairs in the implementation of the 12 recommendations. He also pointed out that Georgia is expecting the candidate status by the end of this year.
    The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of granting the candidate status to Georgia and the significance of support from the Kingdom of the Netherlands in this process.
    Irakli Garibashvili congratulated Meline Arakelian on the commencement of her diplomatic mission in Georgia and wished her success in her future endeavors.

    Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili hosted a dinner in honor of Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission.

    The dinner honoring Josep Borrell was served on Mtatsminda. The Head of Government and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy discussed Georgia’s European integration in an informal setting.
    Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, arrived in Tbilisi on September 7.
    Within the scope of the visit, both face-to-face and extended-format meetings between Irakli Garibashvili and Josep Borrell are scheduled, to be followed by a joint press conference.

  • High Representative Josep Borrell travels to Georgia

    The EU High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell will travel to Georgia on 7-8 September. His first official visit to the country in the current capacity will provide the opportunity to discuss progress on Georgia’s European integration path, and exchange views on wider foreign policy and regional matters.

    During the visit, the High Representative will be received by Salome Zourabichvili, President of Georgia. The HR/VP will also meet Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili. Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, a joint press conference will be held.

    He will also hold a meeting with Ilia Darchiashvili, Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs. The HR/VP will also take the opportunity to meet with representatives of all political parties present in the Parliament and hold discussions with civil society representatives.

    The HR/VP will during his visit mark 15 years of EUMM presence in Georgia, reflecting the EU’s commitment to Georgia’s security and peaceful conflict resolution. He will participate in mission activities along the Administrative Boundary Line, organised by the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM).
