PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN TOOK PART IN THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM FOR NORTHERN ECONOMIC COOPERATION

On November 18, 2021, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov delivered a video address at the International Forum for Northern Economic Cooperation, held in Seoul, Republic of Korea in a hybrid format.

 Serving as a multilateral platform to promote economic cooperation in the Eurasian continent, this forum annually brings together prominent statesmen, representatives of business circles, world-renowned experts, as well as members of international and regional organizations. This year the Forum was launched under the motto “30 Years of Northern Cooperation: Toward a Future of Peace and Prosperity”.

In his video address to the Forum participants, the President of Turkmenistan expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Republic of Korea and noted that Turkmenistan views this representative forum as an important international platform for discussing and promoting strategic areas of economic cooperation throughout the Eurasian continent, as well as in a bilateral format with the Korean side.   

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan supports constructive steps to consolidate the efforts of the international community aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, the Leader of the Nation added, “in this context, we see a lot in common in the development and implementation of sustainable development programs and strategies on the Eurasian continent, which forms the basis of the New Northern Economic Policy of the Republic of Korea and the strategic course of Turkmenistan aimed at “Revival of the Great Silk Road”.  

Countering the coronavirus pandemic and prevention of politicization of the international community’s efforts in this direction were among the key topics of the current forum. In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan expressed the need to further intensify cooperation within the UN, WHO and other reputable international organizations. “In general, we see good prospects for joint work on the implementation of projects in high-tech industries”, noted President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The current Forum also considered issues on further promotion of multilateral cooperation in the field of energy, transport, environment and digitalization.

  • President Zourabichvili visits Kvareli Euroclub to mark its 4th anniversary

    On 28 November 2023, the Kvareli EuroClub in Georgia marked its four-year anniversary with an official ceremony and a public fair, the ‘EuroClub Village’. 

    The special event was organised as part of the ‘MORE EU in GEORGIA’ public outreach activities of the Young European Ambassadors (YEAs), with financial support of the EU NEIGHBOURS east regional communication programme, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Norway. 

    The official ceremony was attended by Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, Nicholas Cendrowicz, the Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Georgia, Anna Chernyshova, the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Georgia, as well as the ambassadors of Austria, Czech Republic, Ukraine, US, UK and Estonia and the representatives of France, Poland, Denmark, Norway, and NATO.

    The Kvareli EuroClub was founded by Young European Ambassador Nika Gurini in November 2019, with the support of the European Commission, DG NEAR, through the EU NEIGHBOURS EAST programme. In the four years since then, more than 2,000 young people have benefited from the different projects and activities organised by the EuroClub.

    The main mission of the EuroClub is to create a space for young people to interact and learn, to have access to non-formal education, and to stimulate civic activism at the community level. 

    “Such an initiative is exactly what our country needs the most in order to achieve our goal – the European road of Ilia [Chavchavadze], and for this, everyone’s involvement is necessary,” President Zourabichvili said in Kvareli. “The government, leaders, they come and go, but society remains, and society, if it is sure of itself, if society really knows what kind of future it wants, what it wants for its children, for the next generation, then that society will achieve its own, and it all starts in the city, village, community, all the initiatives started from there are the strongest.”

    To mark its 4th anniversary, the EuroClub Kvareli organised various events, including the ‘EuroClub Village’, where local youth were invited to celebrate the European Commission’s recommendation for Georgia’s EU candidacy and the EU’s support to Georgia.   • Press conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Turkmenistan and the EU

    On November 22, 2023, as part of the Days of European Culture in Turkmenistan, a press conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Turkmenistan and the European Union was held at the EU Delegation office.

    During her speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan M.Byashimova congratulated paticipants on this significant date and emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation with the European Union.

    It was noted that regular meetings and negotiations at the highest level contribute to the expansion and strengthening of comprehensive cooperation in a wide range of areas. In this context, it was noted that the meeting between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the European Council, held on September 18, 2023 in New York, became a significant stage in cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU.

    The Turkmen side noted the effective interaction of the parties within the framework of the inter-parliamentary dialogue. In this context, regular meetings between representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the European Parliament was emphasized.

    The “Central Asia-European Union” cooperation format was noted as one of the important mechanisms for expanding partnerships, within the framework of which programs and projects aimed at strengthening trade and economic ties, partnerships in the field of transport, digitalization, ecology and energy, as well as cultural -humanitarian sphere, including education and healthcare.

    The participants of the press conference exchanged views on the successes achieved and prospects for further cooperation.

  • Turkmenistan was elected as a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS)

    On November 16, 2023, during the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference, Turkmenistan was unanimously elected as a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport for 2023-2027.

    This Committee was established in 1978 to promote the role and importance of sport and its inclusion in public policy.

    Turkmenistan was elected as a member of this UNESCO structure for the period 2017-2021.

  • Prospects of Inter-parliamentary cooperation between Turkmenistan and Georgia were discussed

    On November 6, 2023, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan in Georgia Mr. D. Seyitmammedov met with Chairman of Parliament of Georgia Mr. Shalva Papuashvili.

    During the meeting, special attention was paid to the interaction between legislative bodies of the two countries, which is an integral component in the development of comprehensive Turkmen-Georgian cooperation. The sides also discussed promising areas of cooperation in trade, economic, transport and communication, energy, as well as in the humanitarian and cultural spheres.

    Particular emphasis was placed on the intensification of cooperation between the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups of the two countries, which serves an important tool for promoting constructive partnership, maintaining the bonds of friendship and mutual between countries and peoples.

    The participants also discussed the issues related to the organization of visit of Chairman of Parliament of Georgia in Turkmenistan and noted the increasing role of parliamentary diplomacy in the political and diplomatic sphere.
