The International Conference of Mayors of Friendly and Sister Cities of Ashgabat was held

On May 20, 2021, in the building of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan in honor of the 140th anniversary of the founding of the city of Ashgabat, a Conference of Mayors of Friendly and Sister Cities of Ashgabat was held in a hybrid format.

The event was opened by the rector of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering P. Orazov.

 Thanking everyone for their active participation, the khyakim of Ashgabat Y. Gylydjev noted that the capital of Turkmenistan was recognized as a friendly, hospitable, beautiful city from an architectural point of view. He spoke about the architectural project "Ashgabat City". Briefly telling about the rich history of Ashgabat, the khyakim emphasized the political authority of the capital, where the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia is located, which holds large-scale events of international importance.

 During his speech, Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan A. Shamuradov quoted several lines from the book of the President of Turkmenistan "Ashgabat- The White City", spoke about major cultural events that have taken place and are planned in the capital. He especially emphasized the admission of Ashgabat to the membership of the World Federation of Tourist Cities, and also spoke about the objects included in the Guinness Book of Records.

Deputy Mayor of the City of Kabul of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan S. Sidigi, Mayor of Baku City E. Aziz ogly Azizov, Secretary General of the People's Government of the Municipality of Lanzhou City of the People's Republic of China Z. Chenghu, Mayor of Tashkent City Dj. Artykhojayev, Deputy Mayor of Nur-Sultan City E. Kizatov, acting head of the Agency for International Relations of the Astrakhan Region of the Russian Federation A. Aydin, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of the Government of Saint-Petersburg of the Russian Federation E. Grigoryev, Deputy Head of the Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations of the City of Moscow of the Russian Federation O. Shutenko made their presentations by means of videoconferencing.

The speakers noted that Ashgabat is one of the most beautiful cities in Central Asia, rich in historical past and has now become a world-class metropolis, a national center for technological progress and innovation. They noted the bilateral relations between the cities, built on mutual friendship, support and interaction in various areas of the urban economy. The speakers also stressed that they especially value the established ties of friendship and mutual understanding with Ashgabat.

At the meeting, the participants also heard video messages from the Mayor of Albuquerque City of the USA T.Keller, Mayor of Tendo City of Japan Sh.Yamamoto, Mayor of Ankara City M.Yavash, Deputy Mayor of Bishkek City V. Mozgacheva. During her speech, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Ch.Rustamova spoke about the unique design, the progressive transformation of the capital, which in a short time has become a real "pearl" of Central Asia. She noted that in 2020 Ashgabat applied to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the design direction, which was officially adopted by the UNESCO Secretariat.

The event was also attended by the Mayors of Chişinau, Beijing, Istanbul, Vienna, Yerevan. The meeting participants were shown a video about the achievements of the Turkmen capital.

At the end of the event, an Address was adopted to the Esteemed President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on behalf of the participants of the International Conference of Mayors of Friendly and Sister Cities of Ashgabat, dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the founding of Ashgabat.

20 мая 2021 года в здании Торгово-промышленной палаты Туркменистана в честь 140-летия основания города Ашхабада в гибридном формате состоялось заседание Мэров дружественных городов и городов-побратимов Ашхабада.

 Мероприятие открыл ректор Туркменского государственного архитектурно-строительного института П.Оразов.

Поблагодарив всех за активное участие, хяким города Ашхабада Я.Гылыджов отметил, что столица Туркменистана признана дружественным, гостеприимным, красивым с архитектурной точки зрения городом. Он рассказал об архитектурном проекте «Ашхабад-сити». Кратко рассказав о богатой истории Ашхабада, хяким подчеркнул политический авторитет столицы, где находится Региональный Центр ООН по Превентивной дипломатии для Центральной Азии, который проводит масштабные мероприятия международного значения.

Министр культуры Туркменистана А.Шамурадов в ходе своего выступления привел несколько строк из книги Президента Туркменистана «Белый город Ашхабад», рассказал о крупных культурных мероприятиях прошедших и планируемых в столице. Он особо подчеркнул принятие Ашхабада в членство Всемирной федерации туристических городов, а также рассказал об объектах, вошедших в Книгу рекордов Гиннеса.

На мероприятии посредством видеосвязи выступили заместитель Мэра города Кабул ИРА С.Сидиги, Мэр города Баку Э.Азиз оглы Азизов, Генеральный секретарь народного правительства муниципалитета города Ланьчжоу КНР Ч.Чэнху, Мэр города Ташкент Дж.Артыкходжаев, Заместитель Мэра города Нур-Султан Е.Кизатов, и.о. руководителя агентства международных связей Астраханской области РФ А.Айдин, Председатель Комитета по внешним связям Правительства Санкт-Петербурга Е.Григорьев, Заместитель руководителя Департамента внешнеэкономических и международных связей города Москва О.Шутенко.

Выступившие отметили, что Ашхабад является одним из красивейших городов Центральной Азии, богатый историческим прошлым и ныне ставший мегаполисом мирового уровня, национальным центром технологического прогресса и инноваций. Они отметили двусторонние отношения между городами, выстроенные на взаимной дружбе, поддержке и взаимодействии в различных сферах городского хозяйства. Также ораторы подчеркнули, что особо дорожат сложившимися узами дружбы и взаимопонимания с Ашхабадом.

На заседании участники также заслушали видеообращения Мэра города Альбукерке США Т.Келлера, Мэра города Тендо Японии С.Ямамото, Мэра города Анкара М.Яваша, заместителя Мэра города Бишкек В.Мозгачевой.

 В ходе своего выступления Ответственный секретарь Национальной комиссии Туркменистана по делам ЮНЕСКО Ч.Рустамова рассказала об уникальном дизайне, прогрессивном преобразовании столицы, которая за короткое время превратилась в настоящую «жемчужину» Центральной Азии. Она отметила, что в 2020 году Ашхабад подал заявку на вступление в Сеть креативных городов ЮНЕСКО по направлению «Дизайн», которая официально принята Секретариатом ЮНЕСКО.

На мероприятии также приняли участие Мэры городов Кишинев, Пекин, Стамбул, Вена, Ереван.

Участникам заседания был показан видеоролик о достижениях туркменской столицы.

В конце мероприятия было принято Обращение к Уважаемому Президенту Туркменистана Гурбангулы Бердымухамедову от имени участников Международного заседания Мэров дружественных городов и городов-побратимов Ашхабада, посвященного 140-летию основания Ашхабада.

    On November 22, 2023, as part of the Days of European Culture in Turkmenistan, a press conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Turkmenistan and the European Union was held at the EU Delegation office.

    The Turkmen side noted the effective interaction of the parties within the framework of the inter-parliamentary dialogue. In this context, regular meetings between representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the European Parliament was emphasized.

    The “Central Asia-European Union” cooperation format was noted as one of the important mechanisms for expanding partnerships, within the framework of which programs and projects aimed at strengthening trade and economic ties, partnerships in the field of transport, digitalization, ecology and energy, as well as cultural -humanitarian sphere, including education and healthcare.

    The participants of the press conference exchanged views on the successes achieved and prospects for further cooperation.

  • Turkmenistan was elected as a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS)

    On November 16, 2023, during the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference, Turkmenistan was unanimously elected as a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport for 2023-2027.

    This Committee was established in 1978 to promote the role and importance of sport and its inclusion in public policy.

    Turkmenistan was elected as a member of this UNESCO structure for the period 2017-2021.

  • Prospects of Inter-parliamentary cooperation between Turkmenistan and Georgia were discussed

    On November 6, 2023, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan in Georgia Mr. D. Seyitmammedov met with Chairman of Parliament of Georgia Mr. Shalva Papuashvili.

    During the meeting, special attention was paid to the interaction between legislative bodies of the two countries, which is an integral component in the development of comprehensive Turkmen-Georgian cooperation. The sides also discussed promising areas of cooperation in trade, economic, transport and communication, energy, as well as in the humanitarian and cultural spheres.

    Particular emphasis was placed on the intensification of cooperation between the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups of the two countries, which serves an important tool for promoting constructive partnership, maintaining the bonds of friendship and mutual between countries and peoples.

    The participants also discussed the issues related to the organization of visit of Chairman of Parliament of Georgia in Turkmenistan and noted the increasing role of parliamentary diplomacy in the political and diplomatic sphere.

  • EVENTS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE CENTRAL ASIA-REPUBLIC OF KOREA COOPERATION FORUM IN ASHGABAT

    On November 1, 2023, a business forum of young entrepreneurs was held in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan within the framework of the 16th Cooperation Forum “Central Asia-Republic of Korea”.

    The first session of the business forum was devoted to government support measures for the development of youth entrepreneurship in the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea. Representatives of participating countries spoke about the national experiences and achievements in this area.

    During the second session of the business forum, dedicated to the development of startup entrepreneurship and startup incubators, participants reviewed the activities of venture funds for launching innovative businesses.

    There was also a thorough exchange of views between young entrepreneurs and businesspersons on introducing innovations into strategic areas of development based on the principles of “green economy” such as renewable energy, digital economy, biotechnology, robotics, smart cities, etc.

    On the sidelines of the business forum, bilateral meetings and negotiations were also held between representatives of business circles from the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea.

    Apart from that, within the framework of the Forum, six thematic sessions were held in the relevant ministries and state agencies of Turkmenistan.

    The first session “Transport and Logistics” was dedicated to the topic “Interconnectedness of the transport and logistics infrastructure of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea: challenges and opportunities”.

    In the second session “Healthcare and Medicine” were discussed the priorities for the development of rehabilitation medicine and the healthcare system in Central Asia.

    The third session “Climate change and environmental protection” was held on the topic “Climate, Water, Food and Energy Nexus: Climate Change Adaptation, Water Management and Climate Smart Agriculture”.

    The fourth session “Information and Communication Technologies” discussed issues of e-government and e-services, including prospects for using ICT to improve the provision of public services and interaction with citizens.

    The fifth session “Education and Science” was devoted to innovative processes in science and education, with an emphasis on the opportunities and prospects for cooperation between the states of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea.

    In the sixth session “Tourism” attention was paid to aspects of the development of sustainable tourism under the general motto “Revival of the Great Silk Road”.

  • MEETING OF THE HEADS OF FOREIGN MINISTRIES OF TURKMENISTAN AND THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA

    On October 31, 2023, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Park Jin, who is in Ashgabat on an official visit.

    During the meeting, the heads of the foreign ministries of the two states discussed issues of interaction on a wide range of bilateral cooperation.

    The sides noted that Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea attach special importance to the further development of the Turkmen-Korean partnership, which is traditionally based on the principles of long-term friendship, trust and mutual understanding. At the same time, the development of contacts at the highest level plays a special role in expanding and strengthening bilateral ties.

    In this context, R.Meredov noted that on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol held constructive negotiations, during which they emphasized the high level of interstate partnership, and also exchanged views on current regional and the international agenda.

    The ministers expressed a common opinion on strengthening inter-parliamentary ties. In this connection, special attention was paid to the official visits of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Seoul in November 2022 and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Kim Jin-pyo to Ashgabat in July of this year, which became landmark events in the political life of the two states

    The parties stated successful interaction within international structures, primarily at the UN, and noted the high level of mutual support in matters of ensuring peace, stability and sustainable development.

    During the negotiations, it was emphasized that the economic partnership between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea is strategic, sustainable and long-term.

    In this regard, an exchange of views took place on priority areas of trade and economic cooperation. The discussions included projects for the creation of an industrial cluster in the city of Arkadag, projects for the construction of gas chemical plants, the purchase of electric vehicles and electric buses, investments in the introduction of the latest digital, information-communication and other technologies in the construction of “smart cities”, the use of methods and technologies for desalination of sea water and innovations in rational use of water resources, diversification of financing, studying Korean experience in green and hydrogen energy, creating modern high-tech industries focused on the production of competitive products.

    In this context, the activities of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Korean Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation were noted as an effective tool for expanding trade and economic relations between our countries.

    In addition, the areas of education, science, the study of the Korean language, healthcare and medicine are highlighted as promising areas of cultural and humanitarian ties.

    While speaking about the significance of cultural exchanges, in particular about the successful holding of the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in Korea in March this year together with the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the classical poet Magtymguly Fragi, the parties noted the importance of organizing at the proper level the Korean Culture Week in November 2023 in Ashgabat.

    Following the meeting of ministers, the signing ceremony of the following bilateral documents took place:

    • «Memorandum of understanding among the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the School of Korean Medicine of the Pusan National University of the Republic of Korea and the National Institute for the Development of Korean Medicine of the Republic of Korea»;
    • «Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Korea»;
    • «Cooperation program for 2024-2025 between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea».

    Also on this day, a "Memorandum of understanding between the Turkmen State Medical University named after Myrat Garryev and the Korea University College of Medicine» was signed.
