• PARLIAMENT DELIBERATING DRAFT DEFENSE CODE OF GEORGIA

  The Parliament deliberated the draft Defense Code presented by the Government of Georgia as a legislative initiative, aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the management of the defense forces and preparing a unified codified legal act in the field of defense, thus reregulating the issues related to the organization and activity of the Defense Ministry and the military service.
  The speaker, Deputy Minister of Defense, Grigol Giorgadze, elaborated on the main reforms and new approaches of the system, which the mentioned document envisages.

  As the speaker clarified, the Code is focused on the new rules of military service tailored to the defense goals and improving the social guarantees of the persons employed in the system of the Ministry of Defense.

  The Draft re-titles the mandatory military service into the “national military service of conscripts” and reduces the term of service for the conscripts, namely – the 12-month service shall be replaced with the differentiated terms: 6 months for serving in the combat unit; 8 months – in the defense or security unit; and 11 months – for preliminarily determined majors. The conscription shall be ensured by providing the priorities of the Ministry. The conscripts may serve only in the system of the Ministry.

  The recruitment will be carried out taking into account the priorities of the Ministry.

  The draft of amendments, which was prepared on the basis of the model of the Finnish and Baltic countries, provides a one-time possibility of postponement of military service, and it also provides conditions for alternative military service.

  "The Code re-regulates the military reform adjusting it to the defense objectives and establishes significant social guarantees for the military personnel and creates the effective legal mechanisms for interoperability with NATO defense standards”, - the Deputy Minister of Defense, Grigol Giorgadze remarked.

  As an alternative to the draft Defense Code, MP Aleksandre Rakviashvili presented a legislative package.

  He claims that if the supplied document is used as a foundation, the system will undergo certain adjustments.

  As a result of the voting, the legislative package will ultimately be evaluated in light of the document provided by the Government's legislative proposal, which received support from 69 MPs.

• Irakli Garibashvili Rules to Allocate 1 MLN GEL as Humanitarian Aid to Population of Turkey Affected by the Natural Disaster

  In line with a Government Decree, 1 MLN GEL has been allocated as humanitarian aid to the population of the Republic of Turkey affected by the natural disaster from the Reserve Fund of the Government of Georgia channeled through the Ministry of Refugees from Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Security of Georgia today.

  According to the Government Decree, which is signed by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, the allocated financial resources will be used for the procurement of medication, food, clothes, medical equipment and other items, and their transportation to the Republic of Turkey.

• Georgia Ranks 35th Globally by Government Integrity and Advances within Top 20 of European Nations in 2022

  Georgia ranks 35^th globally and advances within Top 20 of European nations by Government Integrity in 2022. It was announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Executive Government Meeting today.

  The Head of Government of Georgia also noted that according to the Index of Public Integrity (IPI) of the European Research Centre for Anti-Corruption and State Building (ERCAS), the country has been positioned second after Estonia in the post-soviet bloc.

  "Updated IPI was published some time ago. It is a global overview carried out by a leading research institution and number one think-tank of the world, based in D.C. I refer to the Heritage Foundation and its surveys. Georgia ranks 35th by Government Integrity and has thus advanced within the Top 20 of Europe. Second source of the international rating system is ERCAS and its IPI, positioning Georgia 32^nd in the world, second in the post-soviet bloc after Estonia. I wish to tell our fellow citizens - our people - that the performance of our government resulted in these indicators. I also wish to tell you for comparison purposes that in line with the referred indexes, Georgia is ahead of 14 NATO member states and 12 EU member states this year with its government integrity indicator. I can list several countries within this category: Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, Check Republic, Italy, Malta, Slovakia, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania and others, I will not list them all. For comparison, I wish to also tell you that in 2012, when the previous rule was telling the entire world and our people that we were number one state by reforms, performance resulted in different indicators as Georgia ranked 69^th under this very index. No discussion was about the Top 20 back then. This is for comparison and information only, to once again remind our society" added the Prime Minister of Georgia.

  According to him, the second important success is the Global Peace Index of 2022, according to which Georgia ranks 2^nd globally by the progress achieved in the last decade of peace.

• JSC Liberty Bank announces changes in senior management team

  JSC Liberty Bank announces the appointment of Mr. George Gvazava as acting Chief Risk Officer effective 3^rd of June, 2022.  Mr. Gvazava will take over from Mr. Abashidze.

   Mr. George Gvazavais finance professional with extensive experience in banking and risk management.

  Mr. Gvazava has a successful track record of working with the leading financial institutions in Georgia for more than 15 years. Mr. Gvazava started as a Credit Analyst at VTB Bank Georgia and since then held various management and top management positions. Prior to joining JSC Liberty Bank, Mr. Gvazava was the Head of Risk Department at VTB Bank Georgia.

   Mr. Gvazava holds an MBA degree from Edinburgh Business School (EBS).

• Memorandum on Launching Industrial Production of Wind Power Plants in Georgia Signed

  Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, State Military Scientific Technical Center Delta and Georgian Wind Energy Association signed a Memorandum of Cooperation thus undertaking the obligation to facilitate the introduction of industrial wind power generation in Georgia, which in turn, will lead to creation of new jobs, integration of wind farms into the energy infrastructure, and generation of more electricity in the country.

  The Memorandum was signed by Romeo Mikautadze, Deputy Minister, Ioseb Loladze, General Director of State Military Scientific Technical Center Delta, and Mamuka Mikashavidze, President of Georgian Wind Energy Association.

  The Memorandum envisages negotiations with the leading companies producing wind power generation equipment, as well as with interested parties interested in purchasing such equipment and its components.

  According to the document, the parties will also make efforts to find potential investors interested in financing and developing the production of components of wind power plants on the territory of Georgia and/or their procurement.
  New plant, which will manufacture wind generators and their components in full compliance with the modern standards, will be located in the territory owned/used by Delta.

  The Memorandum also envisages cooperation with the Government of Georgia, relevant agencies, international donor organizations, financial institutions and interested business circles in order to provide the use of wind energy in Georgia, electricity generation and rapid development of supply to the population.
