Tbilisi will host the 2017 NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session

Tbilisi will host the 2017 NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session, as was announced during today's meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and NATO PA President Paolo Alli. The parties discussed Georgia's North-Atlantic integration and the implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package, also commending Georgia's significant progress in this direction. During the meeting, special attention was paid to the importance of the NATO PA Spring Session to be held in Tbilisi, on May 26-29, 2017.

  • EBRD to support upgrade of up to 12 metro stations in Tbilisi

    The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Tbilisi Transport Company with a  loan of up to €50.6 million for financing the upgrade of up to 12 metro stations.

    The agreement was signed on 17 January in the Georgian capital during a visit by Mark Bowman, vice President for Policy and Partnerships at the EBRD.

    The new loan is a continuation of a broader effort, some of which aims to encourage people to switch from private to public transport. Improved lighting and ventilation and more energy-efficient escalators will improve the daily journeys of Tbilisians, while an overhaul of drainage systems will make the network more resilient to climate change.  

    With a population of 1.2 million, Tbilisi was one of the first cities to join the EBRD’s flagship Green Cities programme, which supports members in addressing their environmental challenges through sustainable investments and policies. The city was also one of the first to develop a Green City Action Plan (GCAP)

  • Shining the light on disinformation: book launch in Tbilisi

    On 14 October, a presentation was held at the Georgian National Library Hall of the Georgian translation of the book by  Peter Pomerantsev, This is not Propaganda: Adventures in the War against Reality.

    The presentation was led by Nino Dolidze, Executive Director of the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED), author Peter Pomerantsev and writer Lasha Bugadze.

    The book was translated and published by Intellect Publishing House within the framework of the ISFED project ‘Strengthening Society Resilience against Disinformation’, with  financial support from the EU Delegation to Georgia.

    Peter Pomerantsev is a Soviet-born British journalist, author and TV producer. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a researcher at Johns Hopkins University. Pomerantsev studies information manipulation and countermeasures in the twenty-first century.

    His first book, Nothing is True and Everything is Possible, was published in Georgian in 2017.

  • Tbilisi and Bucharest become twin cities

    Tbilisi has the 22nd twin city as Georgia and Romania Monday signed a memorandum on the establishment of twin-city relations. Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze signed the document as part of a visit to Bucharest.

    "Georgia would have the opportunity to cooperate with Romania in various areas, like sports, culture, urban planning, and transport,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said.

    “Bucharest and Tbilisi have a lot in common. I hope that the deepening of relations will help us exchange our views and experiences and further cooperate,” Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan noted.

    According to the Tbilisi City Hall, a bust of Shota Rustaveli will unveil in King Mihai I Park in Bucharest.

  • Turkmenistan’s presidential election are actively held in Tbilisi

    On March 12, 2022, presidential elections will be held in Turkmenistan, which is an important event in the political life of the country.

    On March 2, 2022, polling station N1 was opened at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia to conduct presidential elections.

    Every day from 08:00 a.m. to 07:00 p.m. local time, citizens of Turkmenistan who are in Georgia have the opportunity to take part in early presidential elections.

    The Embassy has created all the necessary conditions for holding presidential elections at the highest level.

  • Online conference dedicated to Magtymguly Pyragy was held in Tbilisi

    In preparation for the celebration of the 300th birthday Anniversary of the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Pyragy, on May 17, 2021, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia held an online conference.

    Representatives of Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations accredited in Georgia, the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, the Creative Union of Writers of Georgia, as well as representatives of the media took part in this event.

    The speakers noted that the creative work of the great poet-humanist Magtymguly Pyragy, which had a significant impact on the development of not only literature, but also on the spiritual life of the peoples of the East, has been translated into many  languages and is the heritage of world culture.

    During the conference, it was also emphasized that Turkmenistan is already actively working on preparations for the celebration of the 300th birthday anniversary of Magtymguly Pyragy.

    The events planned for the forthcoming anniversary will contribute to the further study and wide popularization in the world of the richest literary heritage of the great Turkmen poet-philosopher Magtymguly Pyragy.

    This event will be another step in further strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties, relations of friendship and mutual understanding between our countries and peoples.

    At the end of the event, a film was shown dedicated to the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Pyragy.
