MINISTER OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS TOOK FIRST-GRADER DAUGHTER OF POLICEMEN KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

Daughter of police officer Giorgi Beruashvili, killed by the criminal in the line of duty, was taken to school by Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili for the first time.
Under the initiative of Giorgi Mgebrishvili it was established as a tradition that each year, children of the police officers fallen in the line of duty, receive presents and are taken to school by the Minister and other officials of the agency. This year Giorgi Mgebrishvili arrived in Borjomi to congratulate daughter of Giorgi Beruashvili, Tamar Beruashvili with the beginning of the school year, handed over presents and took her to school for the first time.
On 23 January, 2015 district inspector-investigator at Borjomi regional division of Samtskhe-Javakheti Regional Main Division Giorgi Beruashvili was fulfilling police duties in Likani when he was subject to multiple shots made by resident of Borjomi, several times convicted person. Criminal opened fire towards police officers and left the crime scene. As a result of fire both of the policemen received wounds. Law enforcers managed to detain the criminal. Medics did their best to safe officers’ lives, however Giorgi Beruashvili died due to the heavy injuries.

Today entire police stands along with her, she will be member of our big family for the rest of her life… we’ll always take care of children of fallen policemen”.-stated Minister of Internal Affairs.

    In Borjomi Municipality, the fire localization and liquidation were in progress throughout the night with increased forces. Currently, liquidated and localized fire sources exceed the number of active fire zones.

    The employees of various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, as well as the relevant services of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture are still actively participating in the process of extinguishing the fire.
    Border police helicopters and three specialized firefighting aircrafts of the Republic of Turkey resumed their work from the morning.
    Strong winds are still periodically detectable in the valley, hindering the process of extinguishing the fire, however, the firefighters, with the help of the employees of various ministries, are making their best efforts to prevent the spread of the fire and localize and extinguish the fire at all existing fire zones in a timely manner. Also, relevant fire prevention measures are being actively carried out so that the fire does not spread to populated areas or strategic objects.
    On hard- to-reach locations where it is impossible to carry out localization and liquidation works by means of manpower, the border police helicopters and three specialized firefighting aircrafts of the Republic of Turkey are actively carrying out the fire extinguishing works.
    Despite the difficult localization and liquidation work, not a single firefighter and representative of various agencies participating in fire extinguishing works was injured.
  • Turkish firefighting planes sent to extinguish fire in Borjomi, following the phone conversation between the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Turkey

    The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (MFA), Ilia Darchiashvili and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had a telephone conversation, where the Turkish side expressed its readiness to assist in the elimination of forest fires raging in the Borjomi municipality of Georgia.
    During the telephone conversation, the Turkish Foreign Minister expressed his interest  in the current situation in the municipality of Borjomi and the progress of the fire extinguishing works. He once again confirmed Turkey's commitment to provide Georgia with appropriate equipment.
    Ilia Darchiashvili thanked his Turkish colleague for his help and once again emphasized the close partnership between Georgia and Turkey and noted the assistance provided by Turkey in similar situations in the past.
    Within the framework of international aid, Turkey's firefighting plane with an 8-ton tank has already got involved in carrying out fire extinguishing works in Borjomi municipality. Additional aircraft are scheduled to be dispatched.

  • SPECIALIZED FIREFIGHTING AIRCRAFTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY ARE INVOLVED IN FIRE EXTINGUISHING WORKS IN BORJOMI

    In Borjomi Municipality, the fire localization and liquidation works continued throughout the night. Employees of various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, as well as the relevant services of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, actively participate in fire extinguishing process. Border police helicopters resumed their work in the morning.

    Within the frames of the international aid, in Borjomi municipality, a firefighting aircraft with 8-ton tank of the Republic of Turkey was involved in the process of treating fire sectors from the morning. Today, two additional specialized firefighting aircrafts will be involved in fire fighting activities.
    Herewith, specialized firefighting train of the Railway Department will be involved in the fire extinguishing process from the morning.
    Due to high temperature and wind, fire sources of different complexity are still detectable on the ground. Routes leading to almost all active fire zones have already been laid with heavy machinery and tractors.
    All relevant fire-rescue vehicles are mobilized on the spot. Drones continue to monitor the fire.
    The operative management headquarters, headed by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Ioseb Chelidze, and the Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service, Temur Mghebrishvili, continue to work on the ground.

  • EU Ambassador visits EU supported rural development project in Borjomi

    Last week, the EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell travelled to Borjomi and Bakuriani to explore the results of the EU’s support to rural development in Borjomi municipality. During the trip, the Ambassador met with Borjomi Local Action Group (LAG) members and visited a rural development initiative in Bakuriani.

    The Borjomi LAG is one of eight LAGs established with EU support across different regions in Georgia with the aim of encouraging diversified local economic growth based on the best European practices.

    It represents a platform for partnership between local private sectors, civil society and public sector representatives, who contribute to the municipality’s social and economic development and support the participation of the local population.

    “I am glad to see the enthusiasm and dedication of the members of Borjomi LAG, who serve diligently for the better future of the municipality,” said Ambassador Hartzell. “I really believe in these kinds of projects. They bring out talent and entrepreneurship from those best suited to assess the needs and opportunities of their local communities.” 

    After the meeting, Ambassador Hartzell visited one of the municipality’s EU-funded rural development initiatives: a ski rental shop in Bakuriani.

  • Fire in Akhaltsikhe municipality is localized

    Emergency Situations management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received notification from Emergency Response Center according to which fire broke out on the slope of the mountain, located near to Sviri village, Akhaltsikhe. Several minutes later after receiving the report, dozens of firefighters had operatively already arrived at the scene with firefighting technic.

    Fire-extinguishing activities are led by the Minister of Internal Affairs –Giorgi Mgebrishvili and head of Emergency Situaations Manageent Agency- Nikoloz Siradze.

    More than 100 of firefighters of the Emergency Situations management Agency were involved in the fire-extinguishing activities. Due to the difficult relief, Border Police helicopter and 170 employees of Special Tasks Department were involved in fire liquidation activities.

    Fire-rescuers and Border Police helicopter carried out all necessary measures to localize the fire. At this moment the fire is localized and there is no risk of spreading fire. Liquidation activities are currently underway to extinguish particular fire pockets.
