Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili meets Zakir Hasanov, Defense Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Zakir Hasanov, Defense Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The parties discussed the partnership between the two countries and the agenda of future cooperation.
Attention was paid to the visit of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev to Georgia in October 2022. According to the head of Georgian Government, this visit reiterated the good-neighborly and friendly relations and the enormous potential between the two countries, especially in the trade and economic directions.
The conversation touched on the importance of ensuring stability for the welfare of people and the development of the region. The Prime Minister once again pointed out that Georgia is ready to continue promoting dialogue between the two neighboring countries in every way possible.
Attention was paid to the South Caucasus Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative proposed by Irakli Garibashvili which, along with the South Caucasus states, also engages international partners.
The Head of Government thanked the Azerbaijani side for firmly supporting the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The parties reviewed cooperation between sectoral structures and infrastructural projects of regional importance.
It was noted that 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
The meeting at the Government Administration was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia, Faig Guliyev, and the Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Medical Service, Elkhan Ibrahimov, from the Azerbaijani side, while Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze represented the Georgian side.

Azerbaijan and Georgian Defense Ministers held a meeting in Baku

The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov has met with the delegation headed by the Minister of Defense of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili on March 5.
Before the meeting, the Georgian delegation visited the Alley of Shehids (Martyrs) and laid wreaths and flowers at the graves of our compatriots who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of the country.
Then an official welcoming ceremony for the Georgian delegation was held in the Ministry of Defense. Georgian Defense Minister passed along the guard of honor and national anthems of both countries were played. İn accordance with the protocol, I. Garibashvili has signed the "Book of Honor".
During the meeting held in an expanded format, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov welcoming the guests stressed that our strategic partnership is at a high level and this plays an important role not only in the development of our countries but also in ensuring security in the entire region.
Colonel General Z. Hasanov noting that military cooperation between our countries is carried out by means of providing the security of regional economic projects, the programs implemented both bilaterally and within the NATO, as well as within the format of the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia’s military structures, emphasized the importance of expanding areas of activity of this cooperation.
Azerbaijan Defense Minister informed the guest that Armenia, as the occupying country creates a serious threat to regional security and provides ongoing support for separatism on the state level. The Minister once again thanked the Georgian people for supporting Azerbaijan and recognizing its territorial integrity within the international organizations and stressed that Azerbaijan also supports and recognizes the territorial integrity of Georgia.
I. Garibashvili, expressing satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan, again stressed that this is a clear example of the high level of cooperation between our countries. Noting the important role of friendly relations between the heads of state in the development of relations between our countries, the Georgian Defense Minister emphasized the significance of such meetings in terms of expanding cooperation.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for the development of cooperation in the military, military-technical spheres, and in the field of military education and military medicine, as well as conducting joint military exercises, the organization of working meetings and other issues of mutual interest.

Irakli Garibashvili Hosted Azerbaijanian Counterpart at MoD

Defense Ministers of Georgia and Azerbaijan discussed strategic partnership and cooperation issues in defense sphere at the meeting held at MoD Georgia. Irakli Garibashvili hosted his Azerbaijanian counterpart, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov.  

Following the official welcoming ceremony, at the meeting Irakli Garibashvili expressed gratitude to the Defense Minister of Azerbaijan for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and outlined that friendly and firm neighborhood relations are guarantee of stability and security in the region.  

Ministers referred to bilateral cooperation directions in defense sphere. By the end of the meeting Irakli Garibashvili and Zakir Hasanov signed Bilateral Cooperation Plan for 2020 that promotes to deepen relations and strengthen cooperation in defense sphere.  

Within the official visit to Georgia Defense Minister of Azerbaijan paid a minute of silence to the memory of those who fallen for Georgia’s territorial integrity and laid a wreath at the memorial. Colonel General Zakir Hasanov was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Georgian Defense Forces, Major General Zaza Chkhaidze.
