On December 12, 2022, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sardor Umurzakov.

Welcoming the head of state, the guest conveyed to the President of Turkmenistan heartfelt greetings, best wishes and congratulations on the occasion of the International Day of Neutrality from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as the words of the Uzbek leader that he warmly recalls his recent visit to Ashgabat.

Thanking for the congratulations, the head of state noted that this year Turkmenistan is celebrating the 27th anniversary of gaining its neutral status, delegated by the United Nations and twice enshrined in the relevant Resolutions of the UN General Assembly.

Conveying greetings and good wishes to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed our country's commitment to traditionally friendly, confidential dialogue with fraternal Uzbekistan.

In continuation of the meeting, the head of Turkmenistan and his guest emphasized that in recent years, mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation has reached a qualitatively new level. It was also stated that Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan have close or similar positions on topical issues of the regional and global agenda, which primarily concerns ensuring global peace and security, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

At the same time, it was noted that recently inter-parliamentary ties have noticeably intensified, which is of great importance in filling the interstate dialogue with new concrete content.

The priority area of bilateral partnership is the trade and economic sphere. In this context, the need to maintain the positive dynamics of trade and optimal practical implementation of the agreements reached during mutual visits and negotiations at the highest level was noted.

An integral part of bilateral relations is also the cultural and humanitarian sphere, where close fruitful ties have been established.

At the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov expressed confidence that strategic interstate cooperation, fastened by inviolable bonds of friendship and good neighborliness, would continue to develop successfully for the common good.

On November 11, 2022, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who takes part as an honored guest in the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States, met with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Uzbekistan doubled cargo transportation through the ports of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in 2022

In January-September 2022, Uzbekistan increased cargo transportation through the ports of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan by more than two times compared to the same period in 2021 – up to 701 thousand tons. About this, with reference to the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zhasurbek Choriev, RIA Novosti reports.

"According to statistical information, in relation to the 9 months of last year, the volume of cargo transportation of Uzbekistan with the participation of the ports of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan has more than doubled this year, namely from 337 thousand tons to 701 thousand tons," Choriev said during a briefing on the eve of the summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG). The meeting will take place in Samarkand on November 11.

Choriev recalled that at the meeting of the Ministers of Transport of the Turkic states on October 27-28 in Tashkent, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between “Uzzheldorcontainer” JSC and the ports of Aktau and Kurik in Kazakhstan. "The full–fledged activity of the project of the electronic exchange of permit forms of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey has also been launched," the Deputy head of the Ministry of Transport said.

According to him, during the OTG summit it is planned to sign two important documents initiated by the Uzbek side: the agreement on international multimodal transport between the member states of the organization and the program of cooperation in the field of transport.

The Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (Turkic Council), established in 2009, decided to change its name to the Organization of Turkic States at the Istanbul summit in November 2021. The organization includes Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Hungary participate as observers.

Uzbekistan will launch transport corridor to India through Turkmenistan

Uzbekistan intends to launch a new transport corridor to India through Turkmenistan, Podrobno.uz reported on Thursday.

The Agency refers to the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where a meeting was held with a delegation of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), during which issues of the development of the "Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran– India" transport corridor with connection through the port of Chabahar were discussed.

"During the negotiations, an agreement was reached on the development of a feasibility study for a new transport route being created in connection with the need to service the growing volume of trade between Uzbekistan and India, which will reach $1 billion in the near future," the report says.

The route is also designed to ensure the continuity of product supplies within the trade turnover of the countries of Central Asia and India, in turn, striving for the mark of 3.2 billion dollars per year.

It was noted that Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan are successfully cooperating both in bilateral and multilateral formats, primarily within the framework of the UN and the CIS.

Touching upon the topic of trade and economic partnership, the leaders of the two countries noted with satisfaction the progressive dynamics of its development in a wide range of areas - agriculture, power industry, oil and gas complex, chemical industry, etc. At the same time, the importance of recently intensifying business contacts between business circles was noted.

During the conversation, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also emphasized the great personal contribution of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the development of good neighborly relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the SCO summit, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the positive dynamics of trade and economic cooperation between the countries, according to the website of the Head of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the negotiations, it was noted that the Turkmen-Uzbek trade turnover has increased by 10% since the beginning of the year. The countries are jointly implementing new cooperation projects in the logistics sector, in industry, agriculture and water management.

The Heads of State agreed that the traditionally good-neighborly relations between the countries have reached a qualitatively new level in recent years and have been filled with concrete practical content.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov is on a visit to the Uzbek city of Samarkand to participate in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an honorary guest.

Earlier in the day, the Turkmen leader met on the sidelines of the summit with the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

WORKING VISIT OF THE GOVERNMENTAL DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN TO THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN

On September 7-8 this year, a working visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan led by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Batyr Atdaev to Tashkent took place.

Within the framework of the visit a meeting in a narrow format was held between the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Batyr Atdaev and the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev, who are co-chairs of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation.

An expanded meeting was also held with the participation of the heads of ministries and state agenсies of the two countries.

During the meetings the progressive development of bilateral relations, which gained new momentum after the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan in July this year was noted.

Furthermore the prospects for the implementation of the Program of trade and economic cooperation and development of industrial cooperation for 2022-2025 between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were discussed.

The parties also considered the possibility of holding the next 17th meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation until the end of 2022.

The increase in joint projects in the agricultural, construction, textile and pharmaceutical industries has become a meaningful part of the discussion of further strengthening investment cooperation between the two countries. In addition, interest was expressed in the joint production of cars, agricultural machinery and household appliances in Turkmenistan.

 

Common ground was also found in expanding transport and logistics links, including stimulating the transit of goods across the territory of the two states, as well as organizing pilot transportation along international transport corridors using the capabilities of seaports.

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Abdulla Aripov. Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan today. Dignitaries discussed the topics of current cooperation between the two countries, focusing on economic relations and highlighting the prospects of deepening the diverse cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Georgia. It was noted during the discussion that the inflow of tourists has particularly grown in Georgia and economic relations are advancing between the two nations. It was stressed that Georgia is one of the most significant transport corridors for Uzbekistan.

According to Irakli Garibashvili, Georgia is engaged in the following projects: Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) Railway, East-West Highway Construction and Reconstruction, Transport Routes via Black and Caspian Seas. It was also stated that bilateral trade volume grew by 18.5% in 2021 and reached 115 000 MLN USD. It was noted that Georgia is interested in further increasing the export volumes of Georgian wines and mineral waters to the consumer market of Uzbekistan. Dignitaries discussed the prospects of joint ventures. Transport infrastructure was also discussed, along with the possibility of using the transport infrastructure and port facilities of Georgia by Uzbekistan for gaining access to the EU consumer market.
Irakli Garibashvili noted that Georgia and Uzbekistan historically have had very sound and friendly relations. “It is a great honor for me to be in Uzbekistan. It is my first Official Visit and I wish to primarily express my sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister for this warm welcome and hospitality. Turkmenistan allowed the transit of Uzbek cargo

From June 1, vehicles of Uzbekistan and other foreign states are allowed to transit goods through Turkmenistan. This is reported by the Uzbek media with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.

The route runs through the Farap checkpoints on the border with Uzbekistan (Alat checkpoint) and Serakhs with Iran.

Trucks must move through Turkmenistan in a convoy, which will be formed at a distance of 1 km from the borders of Uzbekistan and Iran. It starts to form from 8:00 in the morning.

The convoy will be accompanied by traffic police. For rest of drivers, refueling and maintenance of vehicles, special parking lots are provided. In the event of a malfunction or other problems during the movement, the car is taken out of the column. Law enforcement agencies, together with the Turkmen Road Transport Agency, will provide the driver with practical assistance in solving the problem.

For transit through the territory of Turkmenistan, it is necessary to comply with a number of other requirements and conditions.

Drivers must submit the documents required for transit through the border of Turkmenistan for special sanitation. Vehicles must be sanitized.

When crossing the border, you must present the results of a PCR test for COVID-19 (at least 72 hours in advance) or a certificate of vaccination against coronavirus (at least 42 days from the date of the last vaccination). Also, you must pass a rapid test for COVID-19 at the post.
