Georgia is NATO membership candidate country -Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Georgia is NATO membership candidate country and it continues cooperation with the Alliance.
"We are working with Ukraine and Georgia as close partners. As for Georgia, it is a candidate country, we are working with it and support its efforts to modernize its armed forces, reform and come to NATO standards. The last summit, we received a substantial package and we are working on this package now. We sent advisers and recently opened a joint training center. This is a powerful, important signal of how we develop co-operation and  support Georgia,-he said.

NATO should leave the doors open for Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova- this statement was made by the President of Poland Andrzej Duda. According to him, a lot of people thought in 80-s of 20th century that none of the conflicts would happen. Because of that the activeness of NATO was decreased but the situation was changed in the last years and one of the process was August war in 2008.
“I think that NATO should leave the doors open for Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova-“he said. 

Foreign Relations Committee of European Parliament has supported the visa free regime for Georgia

The Foreign Relations Committee of European Parliament has supported the visa free regime for Georgia. The European Parliament has conducted voting on granting visa liberalization to Georgia, Ukraine and Kosovo recently.
According to reports, the voting result will be sent to the Committee of Equality and Justice. This committee is leading committee in term of visa liberalization issue.

Representatives from the state agencies responsible for the protection of competition in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine will meet in the Georgian capital Tbilisi this week to discuss the state aid regulation and enforcement mechanisms in EU countries.  The multi-country workshop on state aid in the context of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) is being organised between 7 and 8 July by the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX) in cooperation with the Georgian Competition Agency.
TAIEX is a demand-driven tool that supports partner countries with the approximation of national laws, regulations and quality standards to those of EU Member States in the framework of Cooperation or Association agreements signed with the EU. In the Eastern Neighbourhood, TAIEX works with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

Istanbul airport attack: the suspects and the victims

Turkish media have released images purporting to show three of the Istanbul airport attackers minutes before they opened fire, killing at least 44 people and wounding more than 200. According to a government official, the suicide bombers were from Russia, Uzbekistan and KyrgyzstanChilling CCTV footage showed one of the attackers shooting down an undercover police officer who had approached him.
More footage showed panicked crowds running across the airport after hearing gunshots — and one assailant who came in to find the check-in terminal empty apparently throwing his rifle on the ground in frustration.
Turkey said evidence pointed towards the Islamic State militant group. Police carried out raids across Istanbul and arrested at least thirteen people in connection with the attack, including three foreigners, according to the interior minister. The pro-government Yeni Safak newspaper reported that the mastermind of the attack was from the small republic of Chechnya.
On Thursday, a memorial was held at Ataturk airport. At least 24 Turks and 20 foreigners died in Tuesday’s attack. Two Palestinian women and a three year-old boy were among those killed. Other foreign victims include Saudis, Iraqis and citizens from China, Jordan, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Iran and Ukraine.

 

Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine share dairy sector innovations at event in Yerevan

Around 80 participants, including commercial dairy farmers, local dairy producers and industry experts, as well as representatives of Armenia’s Agriculture Ministry met in the country’s capital Yerevan last week to discuss advances in the dairy sector in Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine. The event was organised by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as part of its support to the development of innovation and the knowledge economy in the country’s dairy sector. The participants also discussed key policy and investment priorities that could help accelerate the introduction of best practices in Armenia.
According to a study commissioned by the EBRD, Armenia’s dairy sector is dominated by small producers using obsolete technologies, who are hampered by low productivity and poor standards of production, said the EBRD press release. The study also suggests that there is a major need to modernise the production process and thus pave the way for improved quality and safety of local dairy products.
After the forum, commercial farmers in Armenia will be offered training opportunities to improve all aspects of milk production, handling and marketing, the EBRD said

TAIEX: Poland shares experience on payment services systems with Ukraine

Experts from Poland will travel to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv this week to share best practice on the implementation of EU legislation on payment services with bankers, representatives of retail payment systems organizations of Ukraine, and payment systems associations. The workshop on payment systems regulation is being organised between 29 and 30 June by the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX), in cooperation with Ukraine’s National Bank.
The workshop will focus on EU and Polish legislation related to the payment services market, organisation of the financial market and payment system in Poland, legal framework of the payment systems’ oversight, as well as payment services market in the EU and future development in this sphere, and how Poland prepares for it.

Head of National Guard visited Ukraine

Head of National Guard of the Georgian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Levan Gamkrelidze held an official visit to Ukraine. At the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Lieutenant General Yuriy Allerov the sides discussed ongoing cooperation issues and future prospects. The sides also agreed to share experience in training. The Ukrainian General familiarized his Georgian counterpart with the reforms as well.
Deputy Head of National Guard, Colonel Anzor Goguadze and Georgia’s Defence Attaché to Ukraine, Colonel Zurab Pochkhua attended the meeting as well. Following Ukraine, the Georgian delegation left for Tallinn to attend the parade dedicated to Estonian Victory Day and other events.

The issue of Georgia and Ukraine visa free regime will be granted at EU Ministerial by Estonian side. According to the Foreign Minister of Estonia, Marina Kaljurand, she will discuss this issue soon. This statement was made by her in the frames of meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Pavel Klimkin.
As Foreign Minister of Estonia said, the west will decide to prolong sanctions against Russia.
