Prime Minister of Georgia met with US Vice President Mike Pence
Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili met with US Vice President Mike Pence at the White House. The main topic of discussion of the meeting was the Georgia-U.S. strategic partnership. The Georgian delegation received assurances from Vice President Pence on deepening the strategic partnership in all fields, including: defense and security cooperation, trade and economic relations, development of democratic institutions, and cultural relations. Vice President Pence expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Kvirikashvili's leadership in carrying out ongoing reforms in Georgia. The Vice President also reaffirmed the White House's full support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. The Vice President also stated that the United States will continue supporting Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Prime Minister Kvirikashvili and Vice President Pence also discussed regional challenges and global security issues, agreeing that a secure and stable Georgia is crucial for the whole region. The parties emphasized the importance of deepening trade and economic relations, including the role of U.S. companies involved in Georgia's strategic infrastructure projects. The parties agreed that in the future Georgia and the United States will continue active cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields.
Prime Minister of Georgia conducted a meeting with the US Vice President
Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili conducted a meeting with the US Vice President Joseph Biden. In the beginning of the meeting Joseph Biden congratulated Giorgi Kvirikashvili on the progress achieved throughout the 25 years of Georgia's independence and emphasized that Georgia has become a regional leader.
During the meeting Georgia's steps towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration were noted and it was emphasized that Georgian Government has demonstrated devotion to Euro-Atlantic course through its work.
The importance of strategic partnership with the US was noted. Particular emphasis was put on the defense, security and economic areas and cooperation in these fields.
The unwavering support of the US towards Georgian sovereignty and territorial integrity was reasserted and it was noted that any action, that violates these principles, including holding referendum in so called South Ossetia, is inadmissible.
The leaders discussed the Government's reform agenda and future plans as well as ways of implementation of these plans through cooperation in reinforcing democratic processes.
The sides discussed upcoming Parliamentary elections scheduled in October 2016 and emphasized the importance of ensuring international standards in the process. They discussed regional developments and international security issues. Georgian contribution in terms of combatting international terrorism as well as courage of Georgian peope were noted.
The enlarged format meeting was attended by Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and Head of the Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Committee Tedo Japaridze as well as Ambassador of Georgia to the US Archil Gegeshidze.
After the meeting Prime Minister and the US Vice President continued conversation in a face-to-face format and leaders agreed that they will work on ensuring security and future development of Georgia.
