On April 27, 2020, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov held a meeting with the representatives of the United Nations and its structural agencies working in Turkmenistan.
The meeting was focused on the main topic of the recent telephone conversation between the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres.
As the chief of the external political agency has mentioned, the President of Turkmenistan and the UN Secretary-General reiterated the high level of cooperation, as well as discussed the urgent matters of the international agenda, particularly the social and economic situation in the world due to the coronavirus pandemic. In this regard, the parties considered the opportunities for the perfection of collaboration by strengthening joint efforts. Thus, the Turkmen side is ready to present its experience and possibilities for the resolution of problems and is designing a National plan under the auspices of the UN.
Based on the aforesaid, Minister underlined the need to intensify cooperation with all the UN structures functioning in Turkmenistan for the implementation of the goals voiced by the Head of State that are aimed at overall wellbeing.
The representatives of international organizations highly appraised the actions of the Government of Turkmenistan, as well as the openness of the country and its commitment to establish the international mechanisms in the field of healthcare, food security, and transport. It was stated that the given telephone conversation serves as a vivid proof of friendship, trust and mutual understanding between Turkmenistan and the UN.
It was emphasized that Turkmenistan, being an active member of the UN intends to cooperate further with its international partners for the search of effective resolutions and approaches to the challenges and threats of modern times.

Today, on April 17, 2020, an International Media Forum was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, in the form of a video conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
The media forum was attended by heads and representatives of several ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, members of the faculty of a number of Turkmen universities, national media, scientists, experts, as well as leaders and representatives of major news agencies such as MIR, TASS, TRT AVAZ, TV-24, NEWS ASTRO, Azertadzh, Anadolu Azhansy, Arminfo, Renmin Ribao, Kazinform, Mangistau-Media, Noyan Tapan, NHK, China daily, News Day Georgia, Daily Ittehad, Business Central Asia, Kabar, Psearcher, MIA Trend, UzReport», «NEWS ASTRO», «News of Uzbekistan» and newsroom Asia-Caucasus. Along with news agencies, the media forum was attended by representatives of other media, including the Russian Foreign Ministry magazine “International Life”, the magazines “Istanbul today”, “Diplomatic Gozlem”, “The Diplomatic Insight”, “The Georgian Business Week”, “Diva International” and newspaper publications "Russian Newspaper", "Multinational Georgia", as well as the television channel "Objective" and others.
The meeting was also attended by rectors and professors of well-known foreign universities, heads of authoritative foreign public organizations and more than 50 correspondents of news agencies from over 20 countries of the world.
At the opening of the media forum, the importance of Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality, conducted under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, was noted.
During the speeches, the forum participants spoke about their vision of the status of positive neutrality of Turkmenistan, aimed at promoting humane values, achieving progress in the world exclusively through peaceful and constructive dialogue. A video was shown as part of the media forum, which demonstrated the success of the time-tested neutrality policy of Turkmenistan.
According to A. Kopnov, Deputy General Director of TASS Information Agency of Russia: “The neutrality of Turkmenistan serves as a good basis for the development of friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the states of the region and the world. Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality reflects the desire of its people to maintain peace and good neighborly relations with other countries”.
In his speech, Professor S. Faltas, doctor of economic sciences, independent consultant on democratization and security sector reforms in the Netherlands, emphasized that Turkmenistan has successfully combined positive neutrality with its foreign policy, which is implemented on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect.
During his speech, V. Shadursky, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Dean of the Department of International Relations of the Belarus State University, highlighted the special importance of the Neutrality of Turkmenistan in the context of strengthening and expanding mutually beneficial friendly relations between peoples and countries of the world.
Also B. Akhmetov, Rector of the Caspian State University of Technology and Engineering named after S. Yesenov, the Republic of Kazakhstan, having specified the main directions of the Institute of Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, noted that "Kazakhstan, as a friendly country, supports the policy of neutrality of Turkmenistan and respects its independently chosen development path."
The event participants also exchanged views on issues of Turkmen neutrality in the “question-answer” format. All participants were invited to take part in the international conference “The policy of Neutrality and its role in ensuring international peace, security and sustainable development”, scheduled for December this year in Ashgabat.

On April 16, 2020, a video conference was held between the representatives of the “Türkmendemirýollary” agency, open joint-stock company “Demiryollary” and the Railway Authority of the Ministry of Transport of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
The Turkmen side was headed by the Chairman of the “Türkmendemirýollary” agency A.Atamyradov. The Afghan side was led by the General Director of the Railway Authority of Afghanistan Mohammad Yamma Shams.
During the meeting, issues related to the construction of the Akina-Andkhoy railway line, the work carried out under the project for the construction of the Turgundi-Herat railway were discussed.
The participants also exchanged views on optimizing transit freight traffic and wagons passing through the IRA, further developing of the transport corridor between the Lapis Lazuli agreement participating countries. Separately, issues of obtaining visas for railway workers and other issues were considered.
Today, on the 10th of April 2020, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the extraordinary Summit of the Turkic Council upon the invitation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev who is chairing the Cooperation Council of the Turkic-speaking States.
The Summit which was held through videoconferencing united the Heads of States of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. The Prime Minister of Hungary, Secretary-General of the Turkic Council and the Director General of WHO also participated to the event.
The participants of the Summit discussed the measures implemented at the national and worldwide levels on countering the coronavirus pandemic, including the development of multilateral cooperation in the area of healthcare and addressing the common challenges. They also considered the ways of overcoming the negative effects of the given situation on the world economy.
The President of Turkmenistan noted the necessity of working out the coordinated actions to successfully resist the given threat, as well as expressed confidence in that at current time the Turkic-speaking nations must demonstrate their best merits – humanism, mutual support and solidarity. He also underlined that being a responsible member of the international community, Turkmenistan is in active contact with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, primarily the World Health Organization.
Assuring that the work in this regard will further continue, the Head of State has underlined that in the result of timely implemented measures, the sanitary-hygienic situation in Turkmenistan is stable and is under control.

DEVELOPMENT OF BILATERAL COOPERATION BETWEEN TURKMENISTAN AND GEORGIA IN THE TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS SECTORFriday, 10 April 2020 12:41
On April 9, 2020, a telecast was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations, as well as leaders and representatives of the Turkmen Logistics Association, government agencies “Türkmendemirýollary”, “Türkmenawtoulaglary”, Türkmenhowaýollary, Türkmendeňizderýaýollary”.
From the Georgian side the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia A. Sagirashvili took part via video link, as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Turkmenistan M. Murdzhikneli participated to the meeting.
According to the participants of this event, the transport sector is one of the key vectors of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Georgia. This interaction is based on the coincidence of the positions of the parties on the creation of transport and transit corridors between Asia and Europe.
Also the parties discussed the existing and planned transport corridors, the possibilities of delivering goods to European ports, the work done to date and the prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and Georgia.
In recent days, information about the multimillion economic assistance on the part of the United States of America during the period of 20 years has appeared in a number of international mass media.
The Turkmen side declares that this information is untrue and underlines that the economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the USA is implemented on the basis of mutual benefit and equal partnership.
At the same time, it is pertinent to note that over the quarter of a century the state structures and economic entities of Turkmenistan have realized jointly with the US companies 167 projects which costs nearly 3.5 billion American dollars in the field of power industry, civil aviation, aerospace sector, agriculture and a number of other strategically vital fields.
Being the customer for the construction of power industry objects, procurement of aviation, agriculture, construction-and-road-building machinery, including the works and services with the participation of American companies, the Turkmen side has always made the payments in the framework of abovementioned projects from its own resources.

A video film is launched in the centre of Tbilisi in honour of the 25th Anniversary of Permanent Neutrality of TurkmenistanMonday, 23 March 2020 17:26
In honor of the 25th Anniversary of Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia has launched a demonstration of the video film dedicated to this important event. This film is displayed on a large monitor installed in the Tbilisi city centre, in front of the Tbilisi Concert Hall.
The video film demonstrates the cultural values, traditions and customs of Turkmenistan, as well as achievements in the fields of politics, economy, industry, agriculture, culture, art and sports.
As it is known, 2020 is declared in Turkmenistan as the Year of «Turkmenistan - Home of Neutrality». The slogan of 2020 is inseparably linked to humanistic principles, which are the basis of home and foreign policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who has developed universal formula of cooperation with the world community, which fully complies with global progressive tendencies of human development.
Due to the new video film presented, the Georgian public, as well as guests of Tbilisi have the opportunity to learn more about Turkmenistan.
Being committed to native traditions of good-neighborliness and high humane values, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed an Order, according to which humanitarian aid consisting of essential goods, including the medical tools were donated to the Islamic Republic of Iran due to the increase of cases of acute respiratory diseases evoked by the coronavirus on the territory of brotherly country.
On March 14, 2020, the presentation of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2021-2025 was held in the hotel “Yildiz.”
The given document is aimed to promote further collaboration between Turkmenistan and the UN in different areas, including the maintenance of economic stability and growth, protection of social rights of the population, enhancement of the healthcare system and preservation of ecological balance.
At the beginning of the ceremony, an exhibition of books created on the base of invaluable wisdom of the national Leader was held in the lobby of the building. It is noteworthy that the multivolume work of the Head of State “Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan” took a separate place at the exhibition. The first volume of this book in detail describes the use of "yuzarlik" and pepper, the preparation of medicine from them and the features of their use.
The heads and representatives of a number of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, including the Parliament (Mejlis), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Turkmenistan, law enforcement agencies, Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, as well as the heads and representatives of the diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, representatives of public organizations, local and foreign journalists participated to the event.
In their speeches, speakers noted that the new Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2021-2025, focuses more on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It was also emphasized that the new Cooperation Framework involves the participation of more UN agencies in its implementation than the current one. This is a clear evidence of the expansion of Turkmenistan’s interaction with UN specialized agencies and a multifaceted approach to solving common problems through the use of best practices and recommendations of international partners.
The signing ceremony of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2021-2025 took place in the course of the presentation.
Afterwards, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov and the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova made an address to mass media.
During the address, they reiterated the constructive character of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN structures and underlined that the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework will serve as a guide for joint actions of the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN system till 2025.
It was also stated that the Cooperation Framework confirms the common view and partnership between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN system, while demonstrating joint strive for development of prosper, inclusive and sustainable Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen-Azerbaijani talks in Baku focused on the progress achieved in the trade and economic sphere. Thus, as compared to 2018, the trade turnover for 2019 increased by more than 40 %. Good experience has been accumulated at the governmental and departmental levels. At the same time, it was stated that the level of cooperation had not yet reflected the real potential.
In this regard, Turkmenistan suggested analyzing the status of trade and economic relations. It was underlined that today Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan were able to increase existing indicators and diversify mutual supplies.
The both countries have created a powerful industrial and agricultural base as well as modern transport infrastructure. These factors should be efficiently used with the aim to expand mutual trade and attract investment. It is necessary to reach large-scale projects in industrial cooperation, the service sector, and the agricultural sector.
In this regard, it was underlined the importance to intensify the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
Great opportunities are opened up for partnership between the business communities of the two countries. Major projects are implemented in our country through the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in the spheres of construction, trade, infrastructure, services, tourism and entertainment. Turkmenistan would welcome the active participation of Azerbaijani companies in these projects.
In order to increase trade and economic cooperation, the Turkmen leader suggested to open the Trade House of Turkmenistan in Baku and, accordingly, the Trade House of Azerbaijan in Ashgabat. In addition, the importance of creating a joint Business Council was noted.
