Today, on January 26, 2022, the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Turkmenistan Metthew Stephen Klimow was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the parties considered a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as touched upon international and regional topics of mutual interest.
The diplomats also exchanged views on the agenda of the annual bilateral consultations planned to be held in the near future.
Drawing attention to the importance of economic cooperation between the two countries, the parties stressed the need to hold the next meeting of the Turkmen-American Business Council in 2022.

On January 25, 2022, an online summit was held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries of Central Asia and China, convened at the initiative of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.
At the beginning of the event, a video was shown highlighting the key moments of friendship and the main achievements of cooperation between China and the Central Asian states over the past 30 years.
Then, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping made a speech and praised China's strategic partnership with the countries of this region in all areas of effective interaction.
Further, President of the PRC Xi Jinping invited the heads of the five states of Central Asia to speak separately. Then the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic S. Zhaparov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan E. Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan G. Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev spoke.
In his speech, the Head of Turkmenistan, emphasizing the centuries-old connection of the countries and peoples of this region with China, noted that the very fact of holding today's summit testifies to the importance attached to relations between the countries of Central Asia and the People's Republic of China, understanding the importance of steadily strengthening our friendship and cooperation.
The Great Silk Road, which passed through the territory of Central Asia from China, became a factor in the development and progress of the entire world civilization, where a huge and unique experience of interaction, good neighborliness, exchange of knowledge, achievements in science and culture was accumulated, the Leader of the Nation added.
As it was specifically stated during the meeting, today the cooperation of our countries has a noticeable constructive impact on ensuring global peace and stability. In this context, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan considers the People's Republic of China and the countries of Central Asia as its key partners and like-minded people in the effective implementation of the new philosophy in international practice - "Dialogue is a guarantee of peace".
The importance of the combined potential, powerful resource, industrial, technological base of the countries, which open up huge prospects for cooperation in the economy, where one of its priorities is the fuel and energy sector, was especially noted.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov put forward the strategic gas pipeline Turkmenistan-China, passing through the territory of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as an example of truly partnership relations based on equality, awareness of multilateral benefits.
The presence of objective mutual interests of the parties in the development of cooperation in the transport sector was also emphasized. It was noted that the project "Revival of the Great Silk Road" put forward by the Turkmen side, in its philosophy and geo-economic meaning, is associated with the Chinese global initiative "One Belt - One Road".
The importance of strengthening cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, education, sports, enhancing the state of scientific and cultural ties also became a separate topic of discussion during the summit.
The parties, among other things, paid special attention to consolidating joint efforts aimed at combating the spread of the pandemic and its socio-economic consequences. An idea was put forward to create a mechanism for regular meetings between representatives of the scientific and medical communities, epidemiological and sanitary services, and other relevant departments of countries of this format.
Congratulating the leadership of the People's Republic of China and the entire Chinese people on the upcoming Olympics, the Head of the Turkmen State said that the Winter Olympic Games would become a real celebration of sports, peace and friendship for millions of people around the world.
After the closing speech of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, the Heads of State adopted a Joint Statement on the results of the online summit.

On January 24, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
During the conversation, the ministers discussed preparations for the upcoming 48th session of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Islamabad on March 22-23 this year. The parties noted the importance of this forum for strengthening cooperation in addressing topical issues of the regional and international agenda.
During the conversation, some issues of bilateral relations were also touched upon. The need to implement important agreements reached during contacts at the highest state level, first of all, during the meeting of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Arif Alvi at the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit held in the city of Ashgabat on November 28, 2021, was emphasized.

During the conversation, the ministers discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral relations. The parties noted the importance they attach to the expansion and deepening of comprehensive ties in the areas of political and diplomatic contacts, trade-economic cooperation, cultural and humanitarian exchanges. The parties stressed the need for the speedy implementation of the agreements reached at the highest state level in recent years, primarily during meetings and telephone conversations between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Republic of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In this regard, the ministers exchanged views on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, emphasizing the need to intensify work at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

On January 22, 2022, a meeting took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Turkmenistan Qian Naicheng.
During the talk the parties, having expressed satisfaction on the current pace of development of bilateral partnership on a broad range, highlighted that this year Turkmen-Chinese diplomatic relations entered the jubilee stage.
Within the framework of the meeting the issues connected to the forthcoming events on the highest level with the participation of the heads of states were discussed, particularly, the “China – Central Asian states” summit and the opening of XXIV Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
On January 21, 2022, a conference dedicated to the publication of the books “Interview given by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the international mass media”, “Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia” and “The 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization” was held at the Magtymguly Turkmen State University.
At the beginning of the conference, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan S. Toylyev delivered an introductory speech.
Also during the conference, presentations were made by the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO in Turkmenistan, Director of the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, Director of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy, the rectors of the Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the International University for the Humanities and Development and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the conference, the significance of a number of international events held in Turkmenistan last year, which are another confirmation of the great international authority of Turkmenistan and the recognition of the enormous potential of its foreign policy and the legal status of permanent neutrality as an effective mechanism for strengthening global peace, sustainable development and global security were discussed.
As is known, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Independence of Turkmenistan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave several interviews, in particular, to the journalist of the “Mir” Interstate Television and Radio Company, to the First Deputy Director General of the TASS news agency Mikhail Gusman and to the editor-in-chief of the TRT World TV channel of the Turkish State Television and Radio Company Yusuf Erim. In these interviews, the Head of State spoke about the prospects for regional and international cooperation in various formats. In addition, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the priorities of the state policy of Turkmenistan, where special attention was paid to the preservation of the primordial values of the nation and their relationship with modernity.
The speakers emphasized the historical significance of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia in strengthening and developing relations between the countries of Central Asia. It was noted that this meeting made it possible to comprehensively consider promising areas and mechanisms for further development of regional mutually beneficial cooperation.
In particular, it was stated that Turkmenistan, being a member of the ECO, makes an invaluable contribution to the expansion of cooperation in the economic direction and builds up friendly relations within the organization. It was emphasized that our country, during its ECO Presidency for 2021, carried out active and meaningful work in accordance with the Developed Concept of Chairmanship.
At the end of the event, the participants adopted an Address to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
On January 17, 2022, in accordance with the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan, a working visit of the government delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers S. Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Uzbekistan took place.
During the visit, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
At the beginning of the meeting, S. Berdimuhamedov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the President of Uzbekistan. In turn, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his best wishes for peace and prosperity to the President and the people of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction the high dynamics of the development of interstate relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, which are growing stronger based on a trusting political dialogue at the highest state level.
Also during the visit, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov.
During the talks, the interlocutors considered a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The close interaction of the two countries in the international arena within the framework of international and regional organizations was emphasized.
Paying special attention to cooperation in the field of trade and the economy, the parties expressed interest in diversifying and increasing mutual trade turnover. In this regard, the importance of creating a border Turkmen-Uzbek trade zone, agreed upon during the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Tashkent on October 4-5, 2021, was emphasized. It was also noted that the priority areas of cooperation between the two states are the transport and energy sectors.
The parties expressed confidence that the traditionally established brotherly relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, thanks to joint efforts, will continue to develop dynamically and deepen in the spirit of mutually beneficial partnership, for the benefit of our countries and peoples.
In addition, during the visit, a meeting of the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan was held at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan. At the meeting, topical issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of health protection were discussed and the need for the exchange of experience in the field of prevention of infectious diseases was expressed.
Tashkent also hosted a meeting of representatives of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan with representatives of business circles of Uzbekistan. Following the results of this meeting, a number of documents between representatives of the private sector of the two countries were signed.
Today, on January 17, inter-ministerial consultations between the foreign policy agencies of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were held in Tashkent. The Turkmen side at the meeting was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan B. Myatiev, the Uzbek side - by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan V. Norov.
During the consultations, the parties noted the dynamics of the development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations, emphasizing the key role of high-level visits in promoting bilateral relations.
Stating the positive experience of interaction between the two countries within the framework of international and regional organizations, in particular the UN and its structural divisions, the parties stressed the commitment of both parties to the search for effective multilateral mechanisms to maintain stability, economic growth and security in the region and in the world.
Particular emphasis was placed on intensifying cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, where there is a solid potential for joint work. In this regard, the importance of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation was noted. The issues of developing the legal framework for cooperation between the two countries were also discussed.
Speaking about interaction in the region, the parties stressed the unity in the desire to help brotherly Afghanistan to achieve peace, harmony and stability as soon as possible. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan continue to provide comprehensive economic and humanitarian support to Afghanistan.
Also during the meeting, issues of deepening cooperation in the transport and logistics, energy, chemical, industrial sectors and in the field of information security were discussed. In addition, the parties considered issues of interaction in the field of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
On January 14, 2022, an Afghan delegation headed by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, arrived in Turkmenistan.
On January 15, within the framework of the visit to Ashgabat, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi in a narrow format. During the conversation, the Foreign Ministers of the two fraternal states discussed the development and strengthening the partnership in a wide range of areas.
Then, the meeting continued in an expanded format, during which the parties exchanged views on priority areas of the bilateral agenda. In particular, the interlocutors considered topical issues in the field of political-diplomatic, trade-economic and humanitarian cooperation.
The effectiveness of the Turkmen-Afghan negotiations, which took place during several visits of the Turkmen delegations to Afghanistan, was noted. In this context, the parties emphasized the significant role of the dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries in the development of interstate relations.
Particular attention at the talks was paid to joint infrastructure projects, which are an important aspect of trade and economic cooperation. In this regard, the parties discussed the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line. The ministers also noted the joint work on the construction of a railway from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.
The interlocutors noted the need to further intensify Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in the field of providing regional security.
R.Meredov stressed that Turkmenistan is undoubtedly, interested in the political and economic stability of Afghanistan, the well-being and unity of the Afghan people. In this regard, the Turkmen side confirmed that it would continue to provide regular, humanitarian support to the Afghan people, based on the principles of good neighborliness and centuries-old friendship.
