The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Sofio Katsarava hosted the future Ambassador of Georgia to South Korea, Otar BerdzenishviliThe parties discussed enhancement of Parliamentary relations, cooperation between Georgia and Korea and exchange of experience, as well as economic, political and educational relations. O. Berdzenishvili introduced the objectives of the mission and the action plan.
The parties spoke about importance of Friendship Group and the events related to the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Korea. The meeting aimed at provision of maximal coordination between the Parliament and the diplomatic mission as the pre-condition of successful foreign policy.
The meeting was attended by the Head of Georgia-South Korea Friendship GroupShota Khabareli and Committee members.

Sofio Katsarava hosted the Speakers of the Parliaments of NB8 Countries

The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Ms. Sofio Katsarava hosted the Speakers of the Nordic-Baltic Countries (NB8) and the representatives of the Diplomatic Missions of NB8 countries to Georgia. Ms. Katsarava hailed the visit of the Speakers. “It is the event of paramount importance. The visit of the Speakers will further intensify the links of Georgia with NB8 countries”. The meeting was attended by MPs, Kakhaber Kuchava, Nino Goguadze, Irine Pruidze and Nino Tsilosani. Georgian MPs spoke about foreign policy directions of Georgia and visa liberalization with EU. “The Delegation members congratulated us with this immense achievement for Georgia. They expressed commitment to support our EU and NATO aspiration. At the meeting, we spoke about foreign directions of Georgia and importance of their support in this process. Within the visit, we will discuss the directions for enhancement of relations after enactment of visa liberalization. We will consider Parliamentary cooperation to ensure higher productivity and tangibility of EU aspiration for our country”. The Delegation is composed of: Speaker of Danish Parliament, Mme. Pia Kjærsgaard, the Speaker of Estonian Parliament, Mr. Eiki Nestor, the Speaker of Latvian Parliament, Mme. Ināra Mūrniece, the Speaker of Lithuanian Parliament, Mr. Viktoras Pranckietis, the Speaker of Nowregian Parliament, Mr. Olemic Thommessen, as well as the Vice-Speaker of Finnish Parliament, Arto Satonen and the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland, Steingrímur J. Sigfússon. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden, H.E. Martina Quick represents Sweden. The Delegates will meet with the EUMM representatives in Gori Office and will visit the villages – Khurvaleti and Nadarbazevi to study the situation at the administrative border line. The visit will be accomplished on March 22. Within the visit, the meeting will be held with the Chairman of Parliament, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, the First Deputy Chairperson, Ms. Tamar Chugoshvili, the Foreign Relations and the EU Integration Committees and the Factions. The Speakers and Vice-Speakers will hold the meetings with the President of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili, the PM, Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the State Minister for EU and NATO Integration, Mr. Victor Dolidze. The meetings are as well scheduled with NGOs.

The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee participated in the International Parliamentary meeting in Lithuanian Saeima dedicated to Europe-America Trans-Atlantic Solidarity enhancement. Ms. Katsarava delivered the speech on Development of Democracy through Europe-America Close Cooperation for Enlargement of Trans-Atlantic Area. The meeting of Ms. Katsarava with the Speaker of Saeima was attended by the Chairs of the Foreign Relations Committees of Ukrainian, Latvian, Moldovan and Lithuanian Parliaments and the Deputy-Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of Polish Parliament. S. Katsarava held the bilateral meetings with the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of Lithuanian Saeima, Head of Lithuania-Georgia Friendship Group, OSCE Delegation Head and other Delegations of various countries. “I would like to thank our partner and friend, Lithuania for intact support of Georgia. At the meeting with the Speaker of Saeima, we considered the bilateral and multilateral Parliamentary relations, direct cooperation and cooperation on Parliamentary Assembly level. We underlined support of partner countries to EU and NATO aspiration, as well as territorial integrity of Georgia. Our partners unanimously support democratic reforms in Georgia and the role of Georgia as the leader in the region”, - S. Katsarava stated. The parties discussed the visit of the Speakers of the Parliaments of NB8 scheduled in Tbilisi next week and EaP issues. “We outlined cooperation plan and spoke about enhancement of links as in diplomatic, as well as cultural and social spheres”, - she stated.

The Parliamentary Delegation holds the bilateral meetings in Vienna. At the meeting of the Head of the Delegation, Ms. Sofio Katsarava and the OSCE PA President, Mme. Christine Muttonen the parties discussed relations between Georgia and international security forum.
Mme. Muttonen recalled the annual meeting of the PA in Tbilisi in 2016 and thanked Georgia for warm hospitality. “We enjoy a long-term cooperation and contacts with Georgian Delegation. The OSCE PA further supports territorial integrity and peaceful regulation of conflicts in Georgia. I would also like to congratulate you with the successful accomplishment of visa liberalization issue and wish Georgia good luck” – C. Muttonen stated.
Ms. Katsarava thanked Mme. Muttonen for support and noted that Georgia keeps intact position on EU aspiration. “European and Euro-Atlantic choice of Georgia is a historical decision and is irreversible. Georgia continues democratic reforming to further approximate to EU standards and implement EU values”.
The meeting was attended by Georgian MPs, Majority Leader Archil Takavadze and the Minority Member Giorgi Tsereteli from Georgian Delegation and the OSCE PA Secretary General, Roberto Montella and the OSCE PA Representative to South Caucasus, Kristian Vigenin from OSCE PA.

 

 

The meeting of Sofio Katsarava with the President of the Austrian Parliament

The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to OSCE PA, Ms. Sofio Katsarava held the meeting with the President of the Austrian Parliament, Mr. Karlheinz Kopf.
The parties discussed bilateral relations and inter-Parliamentary cooperation. Ms. Katsarava thanked the Austrian politician for support and noted that the Second President has contributed the greatest mite in Austria-Georgia relations.
Mr Kopf is a friend of Georgia for a long time. He keeps close communication with our country and this summer, we expect to see him at International Conference in Batumi. We considered democratic reforming in Georgia. As noted, Georgia has recently made significant steps in terms of enhancement of democratic institutions and the Georgian Government successfully implements the European value-based course”.
The parties also touched upon economic and tourism development. Mr. Kopf noted that in this regards, strategic location of Georgia gives good opportunities for business development
The meeting was attended by the Member of the Delegation, Giorgi Tsereteli and the Ambassador of Georgia to Austria, Konstantine Zaldastanishvili.

 

 

The OSCE PA Winter Session opened with the Standing Committee sitting

The Hofburg Center in Vienna hosts the OSCE PA winter session. The first meeting was held in the Standing Committee to discuss the winter session agenda issues.
The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation of Georgia, the Chair of the Foreign Relations CommitteeMs. Sofio Katsarava addressed the attendees expressing her gratitude for participation of observer missions on Parliamentary Elections, 2016. 
“As the newly appointed Head of the Delegation, I would like to first of all express my gratitude to you for warm hospitality and to the monitoring mission for participation in the Parliamentary Elections in 2016 which we highly value. The elections were of utmost importance for Georgia and the reports developed by the missions clearly underlined a significant fact – Georgia has once again confirmed that it is the leader of democratic transformation in the region. Let me once again assure you that Georgia remains loyal to further consolidation of democracy. We value cooperation with our partners, with you. I expect further cooperation with you and our partners and I expect dealing with the mentioned gaps”.
The OSCE PA Vice-President, Giorgi Tsereteli made evaluation of the agenda issues. During two days the delegates will hold important discussions and debates on one of the issues: “protection of human rights in crisis”. “Our task is to reflect the priorities of Georgia into the resolutions and the drafts to be developed for the spring session”.

The parties discussed NATO integration process and spoke about scheduled visits and events, as well as outlined future plans. The parties touched upon the importance of strategic communication and discussed achieved progress.
