On March 20-22, Georgia will host the Speakers and Vice-Speakers of the Parliaments of NB8 countries. The Chairman of Georgian Parliament, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze will meet the Speakers and Vice-Speakers on March 21, at 09h30. The same day, at 13h15, the Chairman and his counterparts will make the joint statement.
Within the visit, the meetings are scheduled with the First Deputy Chairperson, Ms. Tamar Chugoshvili, the Foreign Relations and the EU Integration Committees and the Factions.
The NB8 Speakers and Vice-Speakers will hold the meeting with the President of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili, the PM, Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the State Minister on EU and NATO Integration, Victor Dolidze.
The meeting is scheduled with the Catholic-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II.
Within the visit, the Speaker will meet the EUMM representatives in Gori Office and will visit the villages – Nadarbazevi and Khurvaleti to study the situation at the administrative border line. The meeting is also scheduled with NGOs.
The Speaker of Danish Parliament, Mme. Pia Kjærsgaard, the Speaker of Estonian Parliament, Mr. Eiki Nestor, the Speaker of Latvian Parliament, Mme. Ināra Mūrniece, the Speaker of Lithuanian Parliament, Mr. Viktoras Pranckietis, the Speaker of Nowregian Parliament, Mr. Olemic Thommessen, as well as the Vice-Speaker of Finnish Parliament, Arto Satonen and the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland, Steingrímur J. Sigfússon will visit Georgia. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden, H.E. Martina Quick represents Sweden.NB8 is the Informal Format of Regional Cooperation between Baltic (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) and Nordic (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Denmark) countries.
NB8 is the instrument for political dialogue and practical cooperation. in 2016, NB8 presiding country was Latvia. In 2017, it was assumed by Norway, which will emphasize Trans-Atlantic relations, European future, Russia, UN issues and terrorism.
Georgia is interested in development of cooperation in various directions – domestic affairs, defense and security. During 2016, Georgia has been expressing commitment on various levels for involvement and hosting the events.
During Latvia presiding NB8, with active participation of the Speaker of Latvian Parliament the decision was made on the visit of the Speakers of NB8 countries in Georgia in 2017.
