The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia is participating in the Ministerial Meeting of the Council of Europe
On 19 and 20 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili will participate in the 132nd Ministerial Meeting of the Council of Europe. According to the administration of the MFA of Georgia
The Georgian Foreign Minister will address the participants of the session within the framework of the Ministerial. Ilia Darchiashvili will hold meetings with the foreign ministers of the member states of the organization, as well as with the high-ranking officials of the Council of Europe.
The 132nd Ministerial Meeting of the Council of Europe, chaired by the Italian Republic, is hosted by Turin.
Georgia as the Chair of the BSEC has hosted the 44th Ministerial Meeting of the Organization
The 44th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Member States of held online on 17 December 2021. The meeting was chaired by the Vice-Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the BSEC Chairman-in-Office, David Zalkaliani.
Zalkaliani spoke about the events organized by the country during the Georgian Chairmanship. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also briefed the BSEC member states on Georgia’s strategy to prevent the spread of the virus in Georgia, on the measures taken and the positive results achieved in terms of intensifying economic growth. It was stressed that based on the available data, Georgia forecasts double-digit GDP growth.
The Minister shared his views on the development of the Black Sea region as a bridge connecting Europe and Asia. Zalkaliani also spoke about Georgia’s role of as a transport hub during the Covid-19 pandemic and stressed that the number of cargo shipments during the pandemic increased by 30%, the number of international flights over Georgia – by three times. The Minister also spoke about the developments in the tourism sector and noted that despite the 80 percent fall during the pandemic, tourism returned to the pre-pandemic level thanks to the Georgian government’s active efforts.
The Minister also emphasized the importance of enhancing regional security - an essential precondition for the sustainable and stable economic development of the BSEC countries. At the same time, Zalkaliani stressed the need to resolve conflicts in the region in accordance with the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Minister Zalkaliani thanked the Permanent Secretariat of the Organization for its assistance during the Georgian Chairmanship of the BSEC (1 July 2021 to 31 December 2021) and wished the Republic of Moldova success in its forthcoming chairmanship of the organization.

David Zalkaliani participated in Ministerial Meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism
On 23 September 2021, the Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, David Zalkaliani took part in the Ministerial Meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism organized by Germany and France, on the margins of the High-Level Week (Shaping our common agenda) of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The role of multilateralism in combating the pandemic, protecting gender equality and tackling climate change were the key points of the meeting.
The meeting was opened by the German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas and the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian.
In his speech, the Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, David Zalkaliani spoke about the importance of international cooperation and the rules-based international order in responding to global challenges. He highlighted the role of multilateralism in the context of fighting the pandemic, upholding the rights of women and girls, and protecting the environment. The importance of joint efforts in preparing for the future, dealing with the pandemic and creating a better international system was also stressed.
The Minister reaffirmed Georgia's support for the Alliance for Multilateralism and its commitment to further contribute to the strengthening of multilateralism.
Media Briefing on 2016 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development
The 2016 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, with the theme “Ensuring no one is left behind,” will take place at UN Headquarters in New York from 11-20 July 2016. As the essential global platform for guiding worldwide efforts on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, this year's Forum represents the first time countries are sharing their development plans since the adoption of the SDGs.
During the Forum, 22 countries —including Georgia— will present an overview of their plans to achieve the SDGs. The Forum will consist of a 5-day expert level meeting and a 3-day ministerial meeting (18-20 July).
As 2016 marks the beginning of implementation efforts by all countries to achieve the SDGs, the focus this year will be on exchanging experiences on the initial steps and approaches taken to implementation and architecture for follow-up and review, rather than on measuring progress.
