The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri held a meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Rik Daems, who pays visit to Georgia.

The Minister of Internal Affairs /MIA/, Vakhtang Gomelauri awarded Michael Truner, the Senior Police Advisor of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to Georgia with the certificate of acknowledgement and the medal “For Special Merits” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the contribution to the capacity building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
On March 5, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoglu arrived at Ashgabat on a two-day working visit.
In the framework of the visit, the head of the foreign policy agency of Turkey was received by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. President of Turkmenistan highly appraised the level of relations between the two countries, based on the principles of friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect.
Then the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey had a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. Having expressed the satisfaction by the negotiations held recently in Ankara, the parties discussed actual aspects of the Turkmen-Turkish agenda. The issues of political-diplomatic partnership were considered in details including cooperation in regional and international structures.
The head of the foreign policy agency of Turkey highlighted the active position of Turkmenistan in promoting peaceful dialogue between the countries and peoples, which is reflected in important initiatives adopted on the platform of the United Nations. Talking about significance of the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Economic Cooperation Organization, Mevlüt Çavuşoglu expressed readiness of the Turkish side to work on expanding transport-transit and energy corridors for regional economic integration. One of the illustrative examples of cooperation is the Lapis Lazuli Corridor.
The sides also considered the level of trade-economic cooperation between the two countries.
Diplomats discussed cultural-humanitarian cooperation, exchanged views on the issues of effective continuation of scientific, educational and cultural contacts.
In addition, they considered the possibilities of the development of cooperation in the sphere of security, including the ecological.
In the framework of his visit, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoglu laid flowers to the Independence Arch of Turkmenistan located in Ashgabat.
MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN TOOK PART IN THE SECOND SESSION OF INDIA-CENTRAL ASIA DIALOGUE
Today, on the 28th of October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov participated to the second session of India-Central Asia Dialogue held through videoconferencing.
The session that was chaired by the External Affairs Minister of India Dr.S.Jaishankar, was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan S. Mukhriddin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Kamilov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic N.Niyazaliev. The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar took part in the meeting as the special invitee.
During the session, the adherence of the parties to further development of relations in political-diplomatic vector, as well as in trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres was noted.
The Ministers emphasized the importance of the first session within the India-Central Asia Dialogue which was held in Uzbekistan last year and contributed to the strengthening of cooperation between the countries of the Central Asia and India.
During the current meeting, the parties discussed the most pressing issues of collaboration and exchanged views on regional and international affairs posing mutual interest. Special accent was made on the expansion of cooperation in the framework of the United Nations and other international structures.
Speaking at the session, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan highlighted the importance of cooperation within the India-Central Asia Dialogue, among the priorities of which is the maintenance of regional security. In this regard, the firm commitment of Turkmenistan to the collaboration on the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy was underlined. R.Meredov proposed to enhance the collaboration on the security issues, particularly by means of holding relevant consultations and meetings between the experts of countries in present format.
The steady position of Turkmenistan in the advancement of peace process in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, including the facilitation of the socio-economic recovery of the neighboring state was reiterated. Turkmenistan stands for the application of exclusively diplomatic and political tools in achieving stabilization in this country. Under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan does all the necessary on its part. The country is ready to provide its political space and required organizational conditions for the Intra-Afghan negotiations. Also, Turkmenistan implements quite a number of large-scale energy, transport and infrastructural projects intended to assist all-inclusive development of Afghanistan, including its integration into the world economy.
The construction of the gas pipeline along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India route, railway segments, and fiber-optic communication lines involving the territory of Afghanistan, as well as the significance of transit routes by means of land, railway and maritime transport and infrastructure was specifically noted. The given projects are expected to contribute to the strengthening of trade-economic ties on the Eurasian space.
In this regard, the Ministers welcomed the presence of Afghanistan in the India-Central Asia Dialogue. They expressed interest in further strengthening of cooperation aimed at the development and economic recovery of Afghanistan. The issue of developing the transit and transport potential of the CA countries and India was especially considered, including the promotion of joint initiatives on the establishment of regional and international transport corridors.
The parties thoroughly discussed the situation in regard to global pandemic and underlined the necessity of continuing close cooperation between the epidemiological services of the Central Asian countries and India on overcoming the COVID-19. In the context, the Head of MFA of Turkmenistan noted the significance of applying the methods of scientific diplomacy and exchange of expertise. The importance of cooperation in the area of healthcare, pharmaceuticals and scientific research was especially noted.
The parties discussed the collaboration in such spheres as energy, gas chemical industry, transport, communication, high technologies, and agriculture. The interest in further expansion of trade-economic cooperation, including the promotion of direct contacts between the businesses of India and CA countries was expressed. In this regard, the Ministers welcomed the launching of the India-Central Asia Business Council in New Delhi in February 2020.
The Ministers thoroughly discussed cultural and humanitarian relations. It was stated that the countries are linked by common historical and cultural values. Special accent was made on holding joint educational and cultural activities.
The Foreign Ministers of Central Asian countries expressed gratitude to the External Affairs Minister of India for organizing the second session of India-Central Asia Dialogue. The parties agreed to continue organizing annual meetings within the India-Central Asia Dialogue with the participation of Afghanistan.
Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili met with the ski patrol officers in Bakuriani before the opening of the ski season and instructed them in connection with their activities.
On the new winter season ski patrol will ensure security of the vacationers and preserve public order in all winter resorts of the country. Implementation of the mentioned project was initiated by the Minister of Internal Affairs in 2016. At the first stage ski patrol was operational in Gudauri as a pilot project.
On the current season new structural unit has been added to the Patrol Police Department. Specially trained 74 officers will be patrolling Gudauri, mestia (Tetnuldi, Hatsvali) Bakuriani and Goderdzi Pass winter resorts with special uniforms and equipment. New equipment was handed out by the Minister of Internal Affairs before the opening of the winter season.
“Ski patrol pilot project was a successful one. In the last winter season ski patrol operated with a great success. They rendered help to Georgian citizens and foreign tourists and prevented facts of various violations on the ski track. As I promised you in the last year, specially trained ski patrol officers will start patrolling in all winter resorts of the country, preserve public order and security of the vacationers. I believe that this year ski patrol officers will fulfill their duties with dedication”-stated Minister Mgebrishvili.
Responsibilities of the ski patrol include: preventing suspicious persons from being on the ski track; controlling behavior of those under alcohol or psychotropic substances; maintaining control and preserving safety measures of the area where beginners are learning to ski; foiling of movement of the forbidden transport on the ski track; maintaining control over the signs and safety barrier. Uniforms and ski helmets are distinguished with the –SKI PATROL and POLICE inscription.
According to the amendments made in the Code of the Administrative Offences and Law on the traffic, movement with a snowmobile or motorized sledge is forbidden except for the authorized person as well as driving a snowmobile under the influence of drugs, alcohol or psychotropic substance; law also forbids entering the closed ski rack; it is also forbidden to leave the place after crashing, without rendering help to the injured, un-notification of the authorized body or law enforcer.
Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili opened annual donor coordination meeting. Minister provided representatives of donor organizations and partner states with detailed information on planned and ongoing projects as well as on progress achieved in the Agency.
“First of all, I would like to thank our partner organizations, especially U.S Embassy and EU delegation in Georgia for greatly contributing to the development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in various directions. As you know, Euro-Atlantic integration is the government's main foreign policy priority, thus reforms implemented in the Ministry are aimed at moving forward towards international standards. Our goal is to form solid institution that will fulfill its main functions properly: preserve public order and ensure safety, fight crime effectively and make prevention”-stated Minister.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili made special emphasis on the development of the agency on institutional level and on strengthening of investigative and preventive directions.
At the conference employees of International Relations Department have held presentation on implemented projects, needs analysis results of the various MIA departments, defined by short and long term priorities and various international commitments.
Conference was attended by representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, diplomatic missions and relevant agencies of the Georgian government.
Special Tasks Department presented one-year report on implemented activities to the Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili. At the event presentation on reforms, ongoing and planned activities was held, depicting activities of Special Tasks Department. Minister of Internal Affairs expressed his gratitude towards employees of Special Tasks Department and wished them success.
“I realize that your profession is extremely difficult, risky and full of responsibility. Lives and safety of our citizens often depend on your professionalism and dedication as well as security of our state.
You fight in various directions: preserving public order and ensure safety, you contribute to the fight against crime, fulfil extremely difficult job on the administrative border and your assistance during natural disasters and catastrophes is very important.
I know that you are dedicated to accomplish your missions successfully and ready to put your lives and health in danger for those missions. I want to thank you for this dedication!”-stated Minister Mgebrishvili. Minister commemorated employees of the department killed in August War 2008.
At the end of the event Giorgi Mgebrishvili awarded employees of Special Tasks Department with badges, certificates of appreciation and incentive awards.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia acquainted with the current situation in Amali-Devdoraki gorge and coordinated urgent measures on the ground. The gorge was also visited by Mr. Mindia Janelidze, the Secretary of State Security and Crisis Management Council, the representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the local government officials.
The flood occurred on June 23 caused a change of Tergi river bed. High flood damaged the 134-135 km Tbilisi- Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi section of the highway. The Patrol and Rescue services of the MIA mobilized in the gorge carried out the necessary measures in coordination with the various state agencies. Patrol Police officers of the MIA reacted immediately upon occurring mudflow and managed to bring out the citizens and the vehicles from a disaster zone safely.
The mentioned section of the road is blocked for the population safety purposes. The vehicles movement is allowed to the village of Gveleti. The border checkpoint Dariali is blocked in both directions. Two helicopters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been already involved in the rescue operations.
Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili opened the Cabinet Session by recalling the tragedy of June 13. The disaster claimed lives of 21 persons and 2 are still missing. Pursuant to the head of the Government, remembering each moment of the calamity that took place in the capital last year is appalling, the only thing that can console us is to recall the consolidation and survival that became possible as a result of sacrifice of human lives.
"What genuinely consoles us is the sense of unity among our youth that was truly historical in those days. Expressing gratitude will be inappropriate and all I can do is express my admiration with the representatives of young generation that contributed greatly to elimination of the results of the disaster. When recalling events such as the June 13, April 9, you question yourself whether such a disaster has to happen to cause more mutual love and sense of unity in the nation. However, even remembrance of the sense of consolidation is encouraging to all of us, "- Prime Minister noted.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili also noted that the Government has already financed the purchase of housing for the 65 families that were left homeless after the disaster. The vast majority have already been resettled, and the process goes on, construction works are being performed to the apartments of number of people.
"More than 40 million has been allocated to rebuild the damaged infrastructure; damaged infrastructure of the zoo has been restored, various countries demonstrated their goodwill by providing animals to us. The zoo is still open for the residents of the city and various regions. Also, it is very important that the report was drafted to indicate the zones dangerous for living and health, which is aimed at reducing the risks in the future ", - Prime Minister declared.
The Head of the Government also recalled the lifeguard Zurab Muzashvili, who sacrificed his life to rescue 8 people. Pursuant to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, it is symbolic that one year after the June 13 tragedy, the Government reviews the proposal on improving the package of legal and social services of firefighters and rescuers. The proposal
was drafted on the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs George Mghebrishvili.
In case of death lifeguards on duty a single time allowance in an amount of 100 thousand GEL will be allocated to the family and the monthly support will equal 1000 GEL - the conditions are similar to those operating in case of death of a police officer.
"Of course, we have to wish safe working to all of them, but I think that lifting the Government's responsibility to this level is also very important," - Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted.
