On the 21st of December 2020, a telephone conversation was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev and the Leader of the National Islamic Movement Party of Afghanistan Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, upon the initiative of the Afghan side.

During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on the agenda of Turkmen-Afghan cooperation. The parties underlined the active development of bilateral ties in view of the agreements between the heads of state of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

A.R.Dostum highly appraised the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan aimed at strengthening of peace and stability in the region, as well as stressed the necessity of promoting the ideas of neutralism in addressing the regional issues.

In addition, during the telephone talk special accent was made on the importance of implementing the infrastructural projects aimed at further socio-economic development of Afghanistan and the region in general. The adherence of both sides to putting together the efforts in the process of prompt implementation of energy, transport and other projects, including the fight against threats and challenges to security and stability was emphasized.

The NATO Military Committee to visit Georgia

The NATO Military Committee and its Chairman, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach will be in Tbilisi, Georgia on 27 and 28 March 2019. 

As a show of support to its long-time partner, the NATO Military Committee will hold a meeting in the NATO-Georgia format chaired by the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Air Chief Marshal Peach and the Georgian Minister of Defence, Mr Levan Izoria. The opening remarks will be open to the media. The NATO Military Committee will receive an overview of the regional security situation, including the occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and the Black Sea. The NATO Military Representatives will then be briefed on the ongoing implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package, the ongoing Georgian Reforms as well as the continuing Georgian contributions to NATO operations and exercises. 

On the 28th of March, the NATO Military Committee will head to the Vaziani Military Base to receive a briefing from the Combat Training Centre and visit the Georgia Defence Readiness Programme, a bilateral programme designed, by the US, to improve Georgian troops’ combat readiness and develop a self-sustaining institutional capacity to man, train and equip their national missions. 

The NATO Military Committee will then proceed to the Joint Training and Evaluation Centre to observe the “NATO-Georgia Exercise 2019”. This joint multinational brigade-level, Command Post exercise aims to further develop the interoperability of Georgian, Allied and Partner Forces, as well as Georgian command and control capabilities.


The meeting of the Speaker with the Marshal of the Polish Sejm

The Speaker, Mr. David Usupashvili, serving the 2-day visit to Poland to participate in the Central-Eastern European Countries’ Parliamentary Meeting, met with the Marshal of the Polish Sejm, Mr. Marek Kuchciński.
As the Marshal stated, visit of Georgian Delegation will further facilitate to enhancement of bilateral relations. He underlined that opinions of Georgian and Polish people on Europe coincide and they will discuss development and security of the European family at the meetings on August 30-31. The parties discussed upcoming Parliamentary elections in Georgia.
The Speaker thanked the Polish counterpart for invitation and noted that during his 4-year term as the Speaker, most frequent visits he served to Poland. In capacity of the Speaker and with the expert status, he expressed commitment for cooperation. He is sure, as the Speaker noted, that next Speaker will further actively cooperate with the Sejm. The Speaker spoke about the role of Russia in Georgia and in the region, Russian propaganda and challenges in the region. Georgian people always felt support by Poland, he stated. The parties touched upon importance of the Parliamentary Meeting.
According to the Marshal, the delegates will consider lots of strategic issues to facilitate enhancement of bilateral relations. Inter-Parliamentary cooperation is particularly important. The Marshal thanked the Speaker for participation in the event and confirmed support to Georgia.
As the Speaker stated, Georgia realizes and shares challenges to Europe and is committed to participate in discussion and crisis resolution.
