Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili met today with Florentino Perez, the President of ACS Group, a leading engineering company, and Real Madrid C. F.
The Prime Minister introduced Florentino Perez to the Georgian Government's four-point reform agenda, with spatial planning as one of its major directions. Giorgi Kvirikashvili emphasized that the spatial planning scheme involves the implementation of far-reaching infrastructural projects in the country.
The President of ACS expressed interest in the country's ongoing and planned infrastructural projects and received additional information about them. Florentino Perez also expressed interest in engaging in the Anaklia Deepwater Port Project.
ACS is one of the global construction leaders, with projects implemented in many countries. The company has a global presence, including such countries as Germany, India, Brazil, Australia, and others. ACS is leading company specializing in civil and engineering construction, services and telecommunications.

Memorandum Signing Ceremony

Georgia and China are enhancing cooperation under the One Belt, One Road project, as the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Georgia and CEFC China Energy Company Limited was signed today at the Administration of the Government. The document was signed by Giorgi Gakharia (Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia) and Zhang Yuzhuo (CEO at China Energy Company Limited). The signing ceremony was attended by Georgia's Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
The goal of the memorandum is to encourage the realization of the potential of the New Silk Road through the implementation of joint initiatives, under which the purchase of 75% of the shares of the Poti Free Industrial Zone by CEFC China Energy Company Limited is being considered.
The company plans further to develop the Poti Free Industrial Zone through sharing the best practices of China's developed industrial zones and attracting investments in the development of processing, modern technology, warehouse management, and logistics.
CEFC China Energy Company Limited is a leading international company specializing in energy, finances, commerce, trade, and logistics. Its revenues place the company on the Fortune (Fortune Global 500) list of the top 500 companies

The U.S. Secretary of State has paid a brief visit to Georgia.  John Kerry’s plane made a technical landing at the Tbilisi airport. John Kerry was met by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani. They spoke about Georgia-US strategic partnership.  The First Deputy Minister thanked the United States and personally John Kerry for the support and contribution to the deepening of the Georgia-US bilateral relations. For his part, John Kerry underlined Georgia’s impressive progress on the path of democratic, political and economic development.
The U.S. Secretary of State reiterated the important role of Georgia in the region. John Kerry wished success to the Georgian Government and Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, who, according to him, plays an important role in the correct development of the country.

World-Class Operator Takes Interest in Anaklia Port

SSA Marine, a leading international terminal operator which has expressed its interest in operating the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port, is holding relevant negotiations with the Anaklia Development Consortium.
SSA Marine Senior Vice President Bob Watters, as part of his visit to Georgia, held a meeting today with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
The headquarters of SSA Marine, a major US terminal operator, is located in Seattle. The company owns terminals in nine countries. Reportedly, the company's annual capacity of 27.2 TEU. The scope of SSA Marine also covers dry cargo processing and passenger transportation/cruises.
During the meeting with the company's Senior Vice President, the Prime Minister of Georgia emphasized the importance of attracting a top-notch international port operator to run the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port, which is one of the most important strategic projects in the country.
The Prime Minister also discussed Georgia's growing geopolitical potential and provided the guest with information about project implemented by the Georgian Government, including those carried out jointly with the private sector.

Georgia’s Prime Minister Offers His Condolences to Israeli President over Recent Terrorist Attack

Georgia's Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili expressed his sadness over the recent terrorist attack in Israel. The Head of Georgian Government offered his sympathies to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin at meeting.
"Mister President, welcome to Georgia. We are honored to host you. Please accept my sincere sympathies over the terrorist attack in Israel that has claimed four innocent lives and left over ten people injured. It was an act against humanity, and Georgia is standing by you in the fight against terrorism. We are appalled at this heinous act against humankind. Terrorists seek to alter the development agendas of our states, and we must stand together in this process," the Prime Minister of Georgia stated.
The President of Israel thanked the Head of Georgian Government for solidarity.
"Because of the terrorist attack, we were considering postponing this visit to Georgia. But we said no, terrorists cannot stop us. Thus, it is an honor to be with you today," Reuven Rivlin stated.
During the discussion, the successful cooperation between the two countries in different directions was emphasized. The parties pointed out that 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Israel, and expressed hope that it would be an excellent opportunity further to deepen the friendly relations between the two countries.
At the meeting, attention was paid to the mechanisms of successful bilateral relations. The Prime Minister of Georgia and the President of Israel also discussed the countries' growing economic cooperation, trade dynamics, investments of Israeli companies in Georgia, and increasing numbers of visitors. According to the parties, the Bilateral Intergovernmental Economic Commission, the second session of which will be held in Tbilisi after setting the exact date, is an effective mechanism to achieve common economic cooperation objectives.
During the meeting, cooperation in the fields of culture and education was also discussed. 
Prime Minister Kvirikashvili thanked the President of Israel for supporting Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. 
The meeting was attended by Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze. After the meeting at the Administration of the Government, the Prime Minister of Georgia hosted the President of Israel at a working dinner.

Award ceremony of the winners of the second stage of “Startup Georgia”

Nine completely innovative ideas and fully-funded ventures have been added to the most viable sector of Georgian economy - the high-tech and innovations-based industry. The authors of the winning projects of the second stage of "Startup Georgia" were awarded today.
Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili attended the ceremony. The Prime Minister considers "Startup Georgia" to be a completely new step in the direction of creating a novel Georgia and a fresh Georgian economy.
"This leads to the transformation of the economy and shifting people's mindset towards the entrepreneurship. This will ensure that individuals become employers rather than mere employees. This is the main implication of this groundbreaking project," - the Prime Minister commented and indicated that establishment of the "Startup Georgia" Fund is the main achievement of the Government.
The Prime Minister also congratulated 9 winning entrepreneurs, who were bold enough to venture completely new ideas for the purpose of acquiring the funding. The Prime Minister urged young people never to think of others who have already implemented similar ideas or of that realization of their innovations is not worth it.
"It is always worth it! Even if only one step out of 10 or 100 ones that you take turns our to be correct, it is still worth it - since said step might completely alter our economy. That is why I consider this project to be completely outstanding and I would like to particularly congratulate you," - the Prime Minister noted in his address to the winners.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili also thanked all stakeholders who contributed to the implementation of the initiative, including the Ministry of Economy and Georgia's Innovation and Technology Agency as well as Partnership Fund and young generation, who vigorously engaged in the process of realization of this important idea.
"This is a completely new step in the direction of creating novel Georgia and fresh Georgian economy," - the Prime Minister stated.
According to the head of the Government, funding of a qualitatively novel ventures is a new opportunity for younger generation to obtain funding without having to apply for the collateral loans.
"The contest took place in a completely transparent environment. Foreign experts from California and Europe with a specific field-related backgrounds also participated in the selection process. This is a qualitative change of our economy that is rooted in encouragement of the most rapidly developing sectors. The most important outcome of the said endeavour is shifting younger generation's mindset towards becoming employers rather than mere employees fro the very beginning," - the Prime Minister noted in his conversation with the reporters.
The total amount of awards issued to the nine winning projects is around 900 000 GEL. Winning projects mainly concentrate on tourism, agriculture, chemical industry, production of construction materials and other areas.

FAREWELL MEETING WITH AMBASSADOR OF AZERBAIJAN

H.E. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met with H.E. Azer Huseyn, Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Georgia.
Parties discussed key topics of the bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia, along with the need to further advance and intensify the interaction.
Head of the Government of Georgia (GOG) expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador of Azerbaijan for his contribution to the evolvement of relations between the two countries and expressed hopes that Mr. Hussein will remain to be a committed friend and supporter of Georgia.
Mr. Azer Huseyn has served as a Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Georgia since 2011.

PRESENTATION OF EDUCATION REFORM AGENDA

One of the key components of the Four Point Plan of the Government of Georgia - reform of the education system - gets launched. H.E. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia attended a presentation of the reform agenda together with the fellow Government Members.
Head of the Government of Georgia (GOG) addressed the attending audience: teachers, university professors, rectors, representatives of NGOs with a welcoming speech and wished great success to them as key stakeholders of the reform.
According to the explanations given by the Prime Minister of Georgia, this initiative is entirely oriented towards the rapid development and advancement of the country.
"Education is core to the development and progress in any country. Overall advancement without a significant development of the education system may not be achieved in Georgia. Solution to the problems challenging us in the country is embodied in the education system. That is why, its development and reform have been included in the Four Point Plan as Number One Priority. Education system should be based on progress, development, aspirations of free and happy individuals. On behalf of the entire Government, our political and parliamentary team, I wish to express our full support to the reform agenda that is being launched. Let me also wish great success to the Minister! Sandro is the person, who will superbly tackle the challenge and education system, that we will create, will thus be based on advanced technologies, access to superior quality education in the rural areas of the country, professional development of teachers and healthy life style" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.
Head of the Government of Georgia stressed the ambitious plan of the authorities to transform Georgia into a regional hub of higher education, science and research. He expressed optimism towards successful adherence to the initiative by the authorities. In his opinion, concept behind the University City of Kutaisi will substantially advance the opportunities created in the education system of the country.
"We should have our attitude towards vocational education and have thus chosen the dual education model, which is regarded as the best model throughout the world. Higher education will be oriented towards the needs of rapid development in the country. Georgia will transform into a regional hub of science, research and education. We have all the resources and potential to materialize this goal. I believe that concept behind the University City of Kutaisi will substantially change the opportunities offered in the education system of the country and will be truly revolutionary break-through towards this end. We have the greatest potential in the face of teachers and I am confident that every effort will be made to the right direction. This is our goal and brain drain from the country will thus be substantially reduced. Nevertheless, we also need to note that it will be equally essential to allow for the inflow of talents in high numbers" added the Prime Minister of Georgia.
He expressed hopes about the education system reform, which is designed to fundamentally change the reality and advance Georgia to a substantially new stage of development.
"Let me wish great success to you all! I strongly believe that this initiative will create solid grounds for the most positive, outstanding changes in our country, thus benefiting each and every person living in the country. It will give rise to freedom, progress and rapid development in our country. All the reforms that we are launching will be based on traditional and best values, along with the synergy of these two. Once again, please accept my best wishes. I am thrilled that we are together launching a truly new life in our country" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.
Presentation of the Education System Reform, which was delivered by H.E. Alexander Jejelava, Minister of Education of Georgia, was attended by the Cabinet of Ministers, diplomatic corps, NGOs, university professors and teachers at large.

BORJOMI-BAKURIANI NARROW-TRACK RAILWAY CARRIAGES GOT FUNDAMENTALLY REFURBISHED

Borjomi-Bakuriani residents, skiers and tourists will from now on be serviced with the newly commissioned, fully refurbished narrow-track railway train. PV-900 passenger carriages, which have not been refurbished since 80's, acquired their original image great merits to the Georgian Railway JSC. Borjomi-Bakuriani train will perform 2 trips a day. Each carriage has 32 seats and respectively fully refurbished train will safely transport 128 people per trip.
Refurbished carriages have been visited by H.E. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia. In his opinion, this train is significant both for holiday-makers and local population.
"We are celebrating a big event in Bakuriani today. This cuckoo train, traditionally associated with a popular recreation area, has been fully refurbished and is now accessible to holiday-makers. It is equally important for local residents of villages from Borjomi all the way to Bakuriani. We have also commissioned a new ski track in Mitarbi, along with a new cable road, which was decommissioned 30 years ago. In essence, we have thus blown a new life into Mitarbi resort. New complex of Kokhta-Mitarbi will be very important segment of Borjomi-Bakuriani complex and it will be developed in line with the Master Plan, preventing its chaotic extension" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.
According to him, this area is developing with Private-Public Partnership and benefits of the investments.
Head of the Government of Georgia believes that it is significant for the residents of Borjomi-Bakuriani region, though it will also employ a great number of people from a greater geographic scope of coverage, judging by the importance of the potential already demonstrated by the ski resort.
"We have great plans. Biathlon track will be constructed next year. We are starting the rehabilitation of the springboard. Plenty of roller coasters will be installed to leave nobody jobless throughout 12 months of the year" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.
