The President of Georgia calls to Georgian Parliament to enhance supervisory function on Gazprom agreement and present the plan, how the risks and threats will be minimized.
According to Giorgi Margvelashvili, additional political risks on energy security we may receive. The President of Georgia believes that energy sector and economical interests was worsened.
Roman Gotsiridze, the parliamentary minority member says that the agreement with Gazprom is treacherous. According to him, all the arguments the government had last year are exhausted.
“This means Russian influence on our government. Shah Deniz international consortium have gave us 500 million cubic meters of gas and and allowed us gas handling in the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline. Despite that Georgian Government had capitulated. This means private interests,”- Roman Gotsiridze said.
The agreement with Gazprom is maximum-this statement was made by the First Vice-Prime Minister. According to Mikheil Kumsishvili, unexistence of the agreement from 1 January should be highlighted.
“Nothing was regulated our relationship. We have begun from zero. Its politically important that we have maintained energy defence. Azerbaijan is still strategic partner of us,”-Dimitri Kumsishvili said.
Today the Government of Georgia will discuss the agreement reached in negotiations with Gazprom. According to Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze will make a statement on the decision of the Government.
Today Kakha Kaladze returned from Minsk, where he negotiated with Gazprom.
The Energy Ministry will present the document received from Russian company GAZPROM and the agreement will officially enter into force. According to Energy Ministry, Georgia had already agreed the final text with GAZPROM. The document had been already sent from GAZPROM.
“The agreement was made between the sides. The text means that Georgia will receive the 10% of oil. The documents have being discussed in Legal procedures and it will enter into force soon.”-it is said in the Ministry of Energy.
The member of United National Movement Giga Bokeria believes that Georgian loyal policy to Russian government damages the national interests.
Giga Bokeria talked about the ongoing negotiations to Gazprom and noted that by these negotiations Georgia looks weak to its main political enemy, Russia. According to him, This agreement is unprofitable.
“Lots of nonsense and stupidity were said about Gazprom so I can’t highlight only one of them. By the incompetence and loyalty to Russia our national interests are affected. This process will be long-term. By doing so, we seem to be weaker to our main political enemy,”-said Giga Bokeria
"If Georgia receives gas from Iran Official Tbilisi will have financial commitment to Gazprom,"- stated the Deputy Minister of Energy of Georgia. Georgian side denies negotiating with Iran, but it is not excluded for future. According to the Iranian press, the process of talks is ongoing and it is expected to be discussed issue about 15 million cubic meters of gas, which will be received from Armenia.
SOCAR is ready to increase the volume of commercial gas supply. The opposition and some experts believe that not Iranian but the Russian gas will flow in Georgia.
Georgian Minister of Energy, Kakha Kaladze says, that discussions with GAZPROM are not finished yet.
According to Kaladze the main subject during the meeting with GAZPROM in Luxemburg was transit of Natural Gas, but they have also talked about Iran.
The Minister of Energy Minister and Vice Prime Minister of Georgia stressed, that Georgia will have a great benefit from the transit agreement of Gas from Russia to Armenia. According to Kakha Kaladze Russia also discusses the possibility of Natural Gas’s transit through Iran.
Georgia and GAZPROM continue discussions on transit issues of natural gas.
Georgia’s Energy Minister and Deputy PM, Kakha Kaladze has met the chief executive of Russian gas monopoly Gazprom, Alexei Miller in Luxemburg.
The sides have discussed Gazprom’s gas transition though Georgian territory and commercial supply issues.
Georgian Ministry of Energy has not spread information on this subject yet.
It was the third meeting between Kakha Kaladze and Miller since late September.
