Two Georgian honey producers are presenting their products at the International Green Week, a one-of-a-kind annual international exhibition of the food, agriculture and gardening industries, in Berlin on 18-27 January. The event brings together over 1,700 exhibitors with over 100,000 products from all over the world.
Georgia will be featured through a range of products at the fair this year, but it is the first time that European consumers and trade visitors will have a chance to try Georgian honey, which is entering the European market under the brand name ‘TAPLI’ – the Georgian word for honey.
The creation of the TAPLI branding was preceded by a rigorous effort to develop the export capacities of Georgian honey, which took place in the framework of the EU4Business project “SME Development and DCFTA in Georgia”.
The Georgian stand at the International Green Week is organised by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, which also developed the TAPLI brand with support from the EU and the German government.
The SME Development and DCFTA in Georgia project, part of the EU4Business initiative, assists Georgian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to become more competitive and adapt to the new regulatory environment created under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) with the EU.
Prime Minister of Georgia Congratulates Azerbaijanis with 100th Anniversary of First Democratic Republic
"It is my honor to cordially congratulate this most important national holiday of the Republic Day personally to you, Ambassador and to the friendly nation of Azerbaijan. This date has a special significance this year. Our countries celebrate a centenary jubilee from the creation of the first democratic republic. It is symbolic that we have gathered today within the historic walls that served as a venue for our nations to choose their path of progress and prosperity a hundred years ago. Exactly one century ago, on May 28th 1918 National Council of Azerbaijan announced the independence of the First Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan right in this building. Two days prior, National Council of GGiorgieorgia unanimously endorsed the Independence Act in the same building" stated Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia in his address to the guests gathered at the 100th Anniversary of the First Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan.
Head of Government noted that it is unfortunate that in the beginning of 20th century independence of Georgia and Azerbaijan turned out to be short-lived, though these spells of liberty left an irremovable trace in the history of statehood of both countries.
"Recently, on 26th May we celebrated the Jubilee of our Republic together with Mr. Ogtay Asadov, Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, our independence turned out to be short-lived. Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan existed for only 23 months, while Georgian - almost 3 years, though these spells of liberty left an irremovable trace in the history of our statehood. Within these hundred years, our countries overcame many obstacles and challenges. Friendship of our people and kind neighborhood counts many hundreds of years. Today we are building a better region with shared efforts to create more peace, stability and prosperity for all. Peaceful and stable region is the primary aim of all of us nowadays" noted the Head of Government in his address.
According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, peaceful and stable region is most important for the strategic projects that are jointly implemented by Georgia and Azerbaijan. Prime Minister focused on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway project and Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP). According to him, relationship between the two countries is an outstanding example of the kind neighborhood.
"Azerbaijan is one of the largest investors and trade partners of Georgia. This trend is constantly rising. Close economic and cultural links further solidify the foundation of our cooperation. Today our countries are working together on implementing large scale and ambitious transit and energy projects, which will completely change the dynamics in the region and its international significance. We officially launched the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway last August in Baku. Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) will be launched in June this year, which also evidences our regional cooperation this time between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Friendship existing between our countries is priceless and we take a special care of it. Azerbaijan was always standing by Georgia, be that during energy challenges over decades, as the Ambassador has mentioned in his address or - massive fire-led natural disaster last year. Georgia will never forget this support. I believe that our links will further strengthen and deepen to serve as a basis of a far wider and successful regional cooperation with the active engagement of other participants and partners" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.
Head of Government congratulated Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan and his family, as well as the people of Azerbaijan with 95th Jubilee of late Heidar Aliyev. Giorgi Kvirikashvili wished peace, prosperity and success to Azerbaijan.
"I hope that with shared efforts and engagement we will manage to carry out this greatest mission and leave a peaceful, stable and affluent region to future generations. When we talk about building the state of Azerbaijan, we forget the name of Heydar Aliyev, whose contribution in this mission is tremendous. Recently, 95 years were celebrated from his birth on May 10. I wish to use this opportunity and express my slightly belated, but most cordial congratulations to Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, his family and the people of Azerbaijan. I want to wish a much greater success to the President of Azerbaijan in the building of statehood. Once again please accept my congratulations with 100th Anniversary of the First Republic of Azerbaijan and I wish peace, prosperity and success to the people of Azerbaijan" concluded Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
Jubilee reception held at the Youth Palace of Georgia marking the 100th Anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan was attended by the Government Members, representatives of the diplomatic corps and other invitees, who were also addressed by Dursun Hasanov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia.

The first results of the assessment of the environmental status of the Black Sea were presented by the EU/UNDP project “Improving Environmental Monitoring in the Black Sea” (EMBLAS II) in a workshop which took place in Tbilisi on 14-16 February.
The assessments were based on the results of surveys which were carried out by highly qualified specialists from Ukraine, Georgia and Russia, as well as experts from five EU Member States, and implemented new monitoring methodologies. Selected samples were analysed in a specialised laboratory of the European Commission’s DG Joint Research Centre.
The results showed that there is life in the ‘dead zone’ of the Black Sea, bringing positive news as organic pollutants at the bottom of the sea are being degraded by bacteria and are therefore not accumulating to form a future “chemical time bomb”.
Overall pollution by the EU’s Priority Substances was not excessive, but mercury and a few organic contaminants in Georgia and Ukraine are a matter of concern. Monitoring of marine litter showed a surprisingly high number of items of litter in the open sea regions compared to other European seas.
All the results are included in the scientific report, which will become a basis for evidence-based policy making on measures to improve the status of the Black Sea.
Internet of Things (IoT) device holds multiple payment cards and includes a digital display allowing for greater security, instant issuance and on-card alerts or coupons
Tbilisi – January 16, 2018 – Visa and Dynamics today unveiled the Dynamics Wallet Card™, a connected payment card, at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The Visa-branded version of the Wallet Card is the same size and shape as a normal Visa credit or debit card, yet it incorporates multiple features and technologies not previously found in a single payment card. Features of the Wallet Card range from the capacity to access multiple cards – whether EMV-, contactless- or magnetic stripe-based – to a programmable on-card display that enables account information, such as alerts or coupons, to be sent to the cardholder via an embedded antenna.
“Innovation in the payments category is not limited to wearables, cars, security or mobile technology – there is still much that can be done to update the card-based experience, which continues to be the primary form factor used globally to complete digital payments transactions,” said Mark Nelsen, senior vice president of risk and authentication products, Visa. “Having collaborated with Dynamics since they launched their first product several years ago, we’re excited about the many unique benefits that the Visa Wallet Card can offer to both financial institutions and cardholders, alike.”
Wallet Card includes a cell phone chip and cell phone antenna so data can be transferred between Wallet Card and a consumer’s bank anywhere in the world and at any time of the day.
The device offers a number of cardholder benefits and cutting-edge technologies, including:
- Multiple Cards in One: Cardholders can access their debit, credit, pre-paid, multicurrency, one-time use, or loyalty cards on a single card with the tap of a button. Account information is shown on the on-card display with the ability to toggle between cards or accounts.
- Instant Issuance: As the first instant, digital card platform, financial institutions can distribute Visa Wallet Card anywhere and at any time – such as in their retail branches or at events, and consumers can activate it right away.
- Greater Security: A bank can quickly delete a compromised card account number and replace it with a new account number, providing convenience and peace of mind for the cardholder.
- Alerts and Messages: An on-card, 65,000-pixel display shows both account information and allows messages to be sent to the Visa Wallet Card at any time. For example, after every purchase, a message may be sent to notify the consumer of the purchase and their remaining balance if they used a pre-paid or debit card. Cardholders can also receive coupons directly on the display or be notified of a suspicious purchase and click on “Not Me” to have a fraud alert set and new card number issued.
- Self-Charging Battery: An organic chip ensures the payment card charges itself through normal operation and doesn’t require any work for the cardholder.
“Visa supported the initial launches of Dynamics first- and second-generation powered cards which brought new functionality to payment cards,” said Jeffrey Mullen, CEO of Dynamics Inc. “Today, we are pleased to again have Visa by our side as an integral partner and thought leader as we launch Wallet Card, our most innovative payment card to-date.”
Availability to Financial Institutions & Consumers
For financial institutions interested in piloting the Wallet Card, it will be available in early 2018.
For consumers wishing to be notified when a particular card will be made available to the public, they can register today at www.getwalletcard.com.
Dynamics Wallet Card will be on display in booth 30359 at CES 2018, which runs January 9-12 in Las Vegas. The product will also be included in the Innovations Showcase at Tech West, Venetian, Ballroom E.

A graduation ceremony of Logistics Specialists and Junior Officers Training Course was held in the National Training Center “Krtsanisi”. First Deputy Minister of Defence Davit Ebralidze and Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze congratulated 15 course graduates on the course accomplishment.
Officers of a logistical field are very important for the army. This is the most professional and qualified branch in the army and therefore we pay a great attention to this direction. We are very glad that one group has successfully accomplished the course”, remarked First Deputy Minister.
Following the course graduation ceremony, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of GS granted certificates to the course graduates.
“Logistics is the sphere without which it is impossible for any military serviceman to be successful- will it be at a battlefield or in a peaceful time. It is especially difficult to provide logistical support in local conditions given its difficult terrain and limited resources. We are happy that a new stream of officers in a logistical area joined the armed forces. They know their job quite well, namely, how to provide military units with logistic supply in right time and place” said Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze.
During the course the officers were trained according to four modules. During the course, they were given the lessons in the following areas: logistical support, organization, management, logistical tactic, supplying fundamentals, exploitation of equipment, and other themes. The training program began on September 28 and finished today.
