Georgian Health Minister resigns

Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze quit in a televised news briefing held at the Georgian Dream (GD) party’s headquarters.

Ekaterine Tikaradze thanked her employees for their work. “All our activities and decisions were targeted at reaching the best solutions for our citizens’ health. Despite the difficult epidemiological situation and the main goal to struggle against the pandemic, the ministry carried out many significant projects,” Tikaradze said.

Ekaterine Tikaradze said she would now join the GD Political Council to strengthen healthcare and social protection systems. “At this stage, I will work for the well-being of Georgia from the party,” she said.

Ekaterine Tikaradze was appointed Georgian Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Affairs on June 18, 2019.

Members of Parliament Vaccinated with China's Sinopharm

Members of Parliament got COVID-19 vaccinated publically. 20 MP were inoculated with chinese Sinopharm vaccine at the N. Kipshidze Central University Clinic. This info reported by the administration of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia.

Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Ekaterine Tikaradze got familiarized with the process of immunization in Tbilisi Republican Hospital.

Ekaterine Tikaradze extended her gratitude towards MPs for involvement in the process of vaccination and noted that participation of a legislative body and MPs will further intensify the process.

“The process of vaccination has significantly improved in Georgia. The readiness and trust for public side is increasing. Both work-related and business sector involvement are significant, since social and public responsibility of our citizens are manifested through wearing face masks, observing the rule of social distancing, active engagement on vaccination process. The Government decided to serve as a role model for the society. Active involvement of the ministers in the vaccination process has been observed recently; without any doubts, involvement of a legislative body and Members of Parliament is very important”, - stated Ekaterine Tikaradze.

Registration for Chinese Sinopharm vaccine has started in Georgia from April 27.

Ekaterine Tikaradze Meets with Ambassador of Azerbaijan

Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Ms. Ekaterine Tikaradze met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia H. E. Faig Guliyev.

The parties discussed the topics related to COVID-19 vaccination. The Minister provided the Ambassador with detailed information on the immunization process. The participants of the meeting reflected on the aspects of cooperation in healthcare field in the year of 2021 and future plans.

Ekaterine Tikaradze wished to Ambassador every success in future activities. Ambassador, from his side expressed readiness for support and deepened cooperation in terms of implemented and ongoing health reforms.

Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Tamar Barkalaia attended the meeting.

We would like to remind you that procurement of 1.4 mln dosages of vaccines is panned within COVAX platform.

The National Plan of Vaccination, envisages vaccination of 60% of population during the year of 2021. Thus active communication with manufacturing companies and EU member countries is ongoing with purpose of mobilization of additional dosages of vaccine.

Ekaterine Tikaradze Studies the Process of Vaccination Ongoing in the Republican Hospital

Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Ekaterine Tikaradze got familiarized with ongoing process of COVID-19 vaccination.  

According to the Plan, medical workers registered at the special platform have already received the first dosages of vaccine.

At this stage, 4456 medical workers have been registered and 1143 have been vaccinated.

The Minister of Health one more time urged medical workers to get involved in the vaccination process and stated that immunization will end the pandemic.

“I got familiarized with vaccination process ongoing at the Republican Hospital. We spoke with doctors regarding attitude of medical personnel. Doctors expressed their readiness to get involved in the vaccination process” – stated Ekaterine Tikaradze.

In addition, within Caritas project of Czech Republic, 55 pieces of oxygen concentrators were handed over to the Republican Hospital.

The medical device is procured with financial support of Visegrad Fund and Government of Korea.
“Georgia received 55 oxygen concentrators from partner countries. This action will further strengthen state clinics”, - stated Ekaterine Tikaradze.

“Visegrad is a donor organization representing 4 countries: Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia. The Fund support social and economic empowerment of the countries of Eastern Europe” – stated Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Georgia H.E. Dr. Viktória Horváth.

The project is aimed at support of health system amid the pandemic. In addition, the project envisages enhanced knowledge of all levels of COVID hotels personnel. This will help with timely and quality delivery of services to the people being in quarantine zones and clinical hotels.

The project also envisages technical assistance for primary healthcare workers, to enable them to better manage the pandemic within their competencies. The cooperation in this direction is ongoing with LEPL Emergency Situation Coordination and Urgent Assistance Center.

"Czech contribution in monitoring COVID-19 in Georgia was invaluable and hugely important” - Georgia’s Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze praised the Czech Republic’s contribution during Friday meeting with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia, H.E. Petr Mikyska as the Georgian and Czech sides met to discuss various aspects of joint collaboration.

In return, Ambassador Mikyska highlighted Georgia's notable success in dealing with the pandemic, saying that Georgia is "Deservedly considered among the best countries worldwide when it comes to combating COVID-19”.

The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the health sector and the Czech non-governmental organization the Caritas Czech Republic in Georgia, which presented two new projects: “Way to Home: Development of Adult Alternative Social Services in Georgia” and “Support to Primary Healthcare Strengthening in Georgia (Phase II)”, funded with more than 2 million euro from Czech Development Cooperation.

First case of novel coronavirus confirmed in Georgia

The first case of novel Chinese coronavirus has been confirmed in Georgia. A 50-year-old Georgian man, who arrived on February 25 from Iran to Georgia through Azerbaijan, tested positive on coronavirus.

Ekaterine Tikaradze, Georgian Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Affairs reported at a special briefing held at the Governmental Administration that the man was traveling on business in Iran during one week. He traveled together with a friend, and both persons were directly transferred to the hospital from Red Bridge border checkpoint.

The infected man is currently placed at an isolated bloc of the Tbilisi Hospital of Infectious Diseases. His health is said to be satisfactory.

As Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Center for Diseases Control and Public Health explained during the briefing, the test result came from Lugar Research Center and for more certainty the test was conducted three times.

A. Gamkrelidze called on the population for not panicking and claimed that the rate of fatality of coronavirus is only 2% though the virus is highly contagious.

For today, global death toll from coronavirus rises to 2 800 and there have been more than 81700 global cases with infections.

China reported another 433 cases and 29 deaths today -- bringing the national total to 78 497 cases and 2 744 deaths.

As for the deaths outside mainland China: Iran: 19, South Korea: 13, Italy: 12, Japan: 7, Hong Kong and France: 2 each, The Philippines and Taiwan: 1 each.
