The Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili held the meeting with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, H.E. Petr Mikyska.

The diplomat expressed the Czech Republic's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for Georgia's European aspirations.

During the meeting, the Czech Ambassador echoed to Georgia's foreign policy priorities, including the application for EU membership in 2024, noting that full implementation of the Association Agreement in this regard is the right strategy.

The parties underlined the close cooperation between the countries in various fields. For her part, M. Botchorishvili expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Czech Republic to Georgia.

During the meeting, the issue of grasping the DCFTA between Georgia and the European Union was discussed. The sides discussed Georgia's export strategies to the EU and in this regard, and stressed the need for close cooperation between businesses.

M. Botchorishvili and P. Mikyska spoke about the dangers posed by disinformation and hybrid war in Georgia and noted that the support of the EU and partner countries in this direction is very important for the country.

The Chair of the CommitteeNikoloz Samkharadze and the First Deputy, Giorgi Khelashvili held the meeting with the Czech Ambassador, H.E. Petr Mikyska to discuss the Georgia-Czech relations, cooperation priorities and inter-Parliamentary directions.

Georgian MPs informed the Ambassador about the Parliamentary Resolution on Foreign Policy and stressed the foreign priorities jointly developed by the Parliament and Government. As noted, EU integration is one of the top priorities of Georgia and the country is getting gradually ready to apply for EU membership in 2024.

The parties overviewed the domestic political situation in Georgia, democratic reforms, regional security and the pandemic management issues.

The Ambassador expressed intact support to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and the foreign policy of the country. As noted, Czech Republic undertakes several important projects in Georgia facilitating the political and economic development of the country.

The parties agreed on cooperation formats and communication ways.

The presentation was opened by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia, Mr. Petr Mikyska, representative of JSC ENERGO-PRO Georgia Mr. Giorgi Trapaidze and a representative of Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT), Dr. Ing. Petr Nowak.
 
The Ambassador underlined the importance of the project for Georgia as a country with significant hydropower potential. The involvement of ENERGO-PRO Georgia is of utmost importance for the project, as an example of the cooperation of Georgian private sector and Czech and Georgian educational institutions with Czech Government support. The project fosters cooperation between the Czech Technical University in Prague with Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi and Akaki Tsereteili State University in Kutaisi. The main goal of the project is to assist the development of hydropower direction and to introduce modern approaches in educational processes, as well as to improve the professional preparation of Georgian universities graduates.
 
This cooperation is an opportunity for Czech and Georgian University lecturers to exchange experience and increase qualifications in the field, an important issue for Georgian employers. The project focuses on the improvement of curriculum, an increase of the interest and engagement of students through various trials, tours to HPPs and workshops in the Czech Republic or online (in the course of the COVID-19 situation).
 
 

A new program to support two state hospitals in Georgia

Tbilisi, 17 September, 2020. The Czech Development Agency continues to support Georgian healthcare system by launching new instrument “Tied Financial Donation”. The first beneficiaries in Georgia are state Republican hospitals in Batumi and Rukhi, which will get Czech medical devices.

A contract was signed today on behalf of the Czech Development Agency by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Tbilisi, Mr. Petr Mikyska, Mr. Irakli Gvazava Acting Director of Rukhi Republican hospital and representative of Batumi Republican Hospital to lay foundation for new cooperation.

The two hospitals are newly built and started partial functioning after COVID-19 pandemic hit the country. However, not all the departments have necessary equipment. Recognizing the problem, the aid aims to ensure modern technologies are provided to both hospitals in order to enhance and improve services provided by them.

The new Republican Batumi hospital is designed for 170 beds. For the first time in its history, hospital will offer citizens the service of midwifery and pediatric medical care and Czech products are designed for it. Meanwhile, Rukhi Republican hospital is designed for 220 beds and by getting new equipment, they will improve surgical and intensive care departments.

The new cooperation also involves trainings for hospitals’ staff, provided by Czech professionals, who will share their experience and simplify the use of new technologies. The Czech Republic will continue to support both hospitals in the future.

New equipment will be delivered in two stages before the end of 2020. Total cost amounts to EUR 371 000, from which Batumi Republican hospital will get EUR 186 000 and Rukhi Republican hospital EUR 185 000.

USAID and the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs join forces to combat disinformation and help Georgia build a stronger democracy!

Today, USAID/Georgia Mission Director Peter Wiebler joined Ambassador of the Czech Republic Petr Mikyska in signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

Together, we’re partnering on the Supporting Democratic Resilience in Georgia project, a new activity to help Georgia’s civil society and independent media combat disinformation and provide people with fact-based information about important issues.

Implemented by People in Need, the European Values Center for Security Policy, and Transitions Online, this activity will help the Georgian people build a more resilient, more responsive democracy.

"Czech contribution in monitoring COVID-19 in Georgia was invaluable and hugely important” - Georgia’s Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze praised the Czech Republic’s contribution during Friday meeting with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia, H.E. Petr Mikyska as the Georgian and Czech sides met to discuss various aspects of joint collaboration.

In return, Ambassador Mikyska highlighted Georgia's notable success in dealing with the pandemic, saying that Georgia is "Deservedly considered among the best countries worldwide when it comes to combating COVID-19”.

The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the health sector and the Czech non-governmental organization the Caritas Czech Republic in Georgia, which presented two new projects: “Way to Home: Development of Adult Alternative Social Services in Georgia” and “Support to Primary Healthcare Strengthening in Georgia (Phase II)”, funded with more than 2 million euro from Czech Development Cooperation.

Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic visits Georgia

Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic Martin Stropnický pays his first official visit to Georgia. Minister of Defence Levan Izoria is hosting his Czech counterpart.

The official welcoming ceremony was held in the Ministry of Defence during which the Military Orchestra of Georgian National Guard performed Georgian and Czech state anthems. After the greeting ceremony, the meeting between the defence ministers was led in an extended format.

The sides focused on deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of defence. Martin Stropnický reaffirmed that Czech Republic supports Georgia`s territorial integrity and Georgia`s Euro-Atlantic membership aspirations. He named Georgia as an important partner and appreciated Georgian troops` participation in international peacekeeping operations. Czech Defence Minister expressed hope of intensification of cooperation in the field of defence and remarked that Georgia, despite the current situation, is progressing successfully.   

First Deputy Minister of Defence Lela Chikovani, Chief of the General Staff of the GAF Major-General Vladimer Chachibaia, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the GAF COL Nikoloz Janjgava as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Czech Republic to Georgia Tomáš Pernický, Military and Air Attaché of the Czech Republic LTC Štefan Grivalský and other officials attended the meeting.

After an official meeting, the MoD leadership made joint statements and summed up the discussed issues.

Before visiting the MoD, Martin Stropnický toured Heroes` Memorial at the Heroes` Square. He laid wreath on the Memorial to honour the memory of the fallen warriors.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is concerned over the developments in breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in Georgia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not recognise the so-called parliamentary elections held in Abkhazia in March 2017, neither the presidential elections and referendum in Georgia’s region of South Ossetia held in April 2017. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Chairman, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze held the introductory meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Czech Republic, H.E. Tomáš Pernický.
The Ambassador delivered the congratulations of the Speakers of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament to the Chairman and invited him to serve the official visit to Czech Republic. The parties discussed bilateral relations and future cooperation.
According to the Ambassador, Georgia is a priority country for Czech Republic, expressed in financial support of Czech Development Agency for Georgia on annual basis.
The Chairman spoke about enhancement of Parliamentary contacts and noted that the Georgia-Czech Friendships Group further intensified inter-Parliamentary relations. He introduced the main directions of the Parliamentary activity and emphasized capacity building of the Parliament. He thanked the Ambassador for intact support of Georgia in international organizations and expressed commitment for the visit to Czech Republic.
