The State of Israel has included Georgia in the list of safe countries

The State of Israel has included Georgia in the list of safe countries which means that, according to Israel, no one in Georgia is under threat of persecution on the grounds of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, political views. The inclusion of Georgia in the list of safe countries means that Georgian citizens’ applications for asylum (unless they are based on real reasons) will not be granted. The State of Israel is the fifth country after the Kingdom of Belgium, France, Bulgaria and Austria, to have placed Georgia on the list of safe countries.

Marathon under “Agile Spirit 2016” Held in Akhaltsikhe

Marathon in the framework of the multinational exercise “Agile Spirit 2016” was held in Akhaltsikhe. Except for the participants of the multinational exercise of GAF, the U.S., Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine, five military personnel, wounded in international missions and in fights for the territorial integrity of Georgia were involved in the race as well.  
The sport event was dedicated to the memory of the Georgian military personnel fallen for the territorial integrity of Georgia and in international missions. The race started from the territory of Orpolo firing-ground and finished at the Bridge named after Sergeant Anzor Geldiashvili who died in the August War in 2008.
The military exercise is conducted by the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces and the U.S. Marines. Agile Spirit 2016 included CPX and field exercises. The exercise officially closed on September 9 at the Orpolo firing range.

 

Multinational Military Exercise Agile Spirit 2016 Launched

The multinational military exercise Agile Spirit 2016 has started today on Orpolo firing range in Akhaltsikhe. Chief of General Staff, Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze opened the international exercise and congratulated the Georgian and foreign military personnel on the beginning of training.
“It is a great honor for me to open this exercise.  I am very delightful that our brothers from Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria and the U.S. Navy Forces are here with us.  I am very glad that people represented here and their countries appreciate peace. This training is a symbol that Georgia, Urkaine, Romania, Bulgaria and the U.S. are not standing alone and we are doing great job. Heroism does not have nationality and religion. I am very glad that friendship will be forged here that is very important for future success,” said General Kapanadze.
The representatives of the Georgian Armed Forces and local government of Samtskhe-Javakheti region attended the official opening ceremony. Following the official part of event, Chief of General Staff got familiar with the infrastructure of the exercise and was briefed by the Exercise Commander Colonel Malkhaz Makaradze about the scheduled activities and future plans within Agile Spirit 2016.
The military exercise is conducted by the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces and the U.S. Marines. Participating nations of the exercise also are: Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine and   Latvia.
The goal of the exercises is to maintain and strengthen relations with the U.S. and partner countries, support the regional security, improve defensive and offensive operation skills.
Agile Spirit 2016 includes the command post and field exercises.  The CPX will start on the territory of the IV Mechanized Brigade in Vaziani on September 3. The exercise will be officially closed on September 9.

The planning Conference of “AGILE SPIRIT 2016”

The final planning conference of the international military exercise “AGILE SPIRIT 2016” is going on in the Hotel Crowne Plaza Borjomi. Trainings and Military Education Commander Colonel Malkhaz Makaradze, who is also the leader of the training, opened the conference.  He thanked the Georgian and foreign participants and expressed hope that the issues discussed and the measures implemented within the conference will promote successful accomplishment of the military training.  
The first working day of the conference was conducted according to the syndicates of various profiles. At the end of the day, the conference results were summarized and two working teams-created. These two teams will make research of locations in Vaziani and Orpholo firing-grounds within two days.
The four-day conference will end on the 14th of July.
The International military exercise “AGILE SPIRIT 2016” will be held in August and September with participation of the military units of various sizes from the United States, Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia, Turkey, Ukraine and Georgia. The exercise will take place simultaneously in Vaziani and Orpholo firing-grounds where the infantry forces and armored vehicles will be engaged.

The Georgian Foreign Minister has met the OSCE Ambassadors

Georgian Foreign Minister Giorgi Janelidze met the permanent representatives of the Republic of Latvia,   the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the Republic of Finland, the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Sweden to the OSCE and the OSCE PA Special Representative in Vienna.
Discussions focused on the co-operation between the OSCE and Georgia. Mikheil Janelidze informed the guests on the heavy humanitarian situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. Talking points also included the Geneva International Discussions and the importance of peaceful settlement of the conflict between Georgia and Russia. The sides underlined the significance of adoption of the resolution “Conflict in Georgia” initiated by Georgia within the 25th annual session of OSCE PA.  
Mikheil Janelidze also spoke about the upcoming October elections and underlined the importance of conducting fair and transparent elections for the process of democratisation of Georgia.    
The OSCE Ambassadors in turn reaffirmed their support for Georgia and expressed the readiness to strengthen co-operation within the OSCE. The OSCE Ambassadors are paying official visit to Georgia to attend the OSCE PA 25th session.

Reception at US Military Aircraft “Harry Truman”

Special reception for distinguished guests was held on US military aircraft “Harry Truman” in Souda Bay, Crete, Greece. Defence Minister Tinatin Khidasheli, Chief of General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze and his deputy, Colonel Nikoloz Agladze attended the event. Marine attaché of the embassy of U.S. to Georgia, LTC William J. Conner, Defence Ministry and Chief of Defence of Bulgaria, as well as Minister of Home Affairs and National Security of Malta and other officials also visited the American aircraft.
The distinguished guests viewed aviation and equipment on the aircraft, they familiarized with the structure and working principle of the military aircraft and attended the air show specially arranged for the guests. By the end of the event the representative of the American aircraft “Harry Truman” handed over presents for cooperation and partnership to the Georgian guests.

Anti-corruption Summit have been opened in London. Summit has been leading by the Prime Minister of UK, David Cameron. The Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili is participating in summit with the leaders of the 40 countries, including the Prime Minister of Norway, Bulgaria, Malta and US.
One of the speeches will be delivered by Giorgi Kvirikashvili. The countries will create the joint declaration.

Bulgaria supports Georgian visa liberalization process - the Bulgarian Foreign Minister, Daniel Mitov said today at the meeting of his counterpart Mikheil Janelidze. As he said, Georgia should continue the process of implementing reforms.
“We support Georgian visa liberalization process. Georgia should implement reforms according to the Action Plan. Georgia should continue to fulfill the terms and improve them. I think that this country should continue it’s work against organized crime, money laundering and corruption,”-the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria said. He also emphasized the importance of relations between the people. 

Black and Baltic Sea border agencies to jointly counter security threats

Border officials from Ukraine, Turkey, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Moldova, Poland and Latvia participated in a conference for border control agencies from the Baltic-Black Sea region, which was held in the south Ukrainian city of Odessa on 28 April. The event discussed the countries’ cooperation towards preventing the uncontrolled expansion of the migration crisis along the EU’s eastern borders.
Representatives of the EU agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (Frontex), EU Assistance Mission (EUAM) in Ukraine, EU Border Assistance Mission to Ukraine and Moldova (EUBAM), as well as International Organisation for Migration attended the conference.
“Improving regional border management and customs cooperation increases security and helps to fight organised cross-border crime such as trafficking in human beings, arms and drugs and contributes to preventing and managing irregular migration,” Andrew Tesoriere, Head of EUBAM, said. “Events like this allow the Black and Baltic Sea border agencies to share best practices and jointly strategies in order to better meet future needs and scenarios,” he added.
In conclusion, the event participants endorsed a communiqué highlighting the importance of introducing the key principles of Integrated Border Management, strengthening information exchange and operational coordination. They also stressed the need to create a joint risk analysis mechanism in the Black and Baltic Seas format to effectively counteract traditional and emerging illegal activities, EUBAM said in its press release on 29 April.

The working visit of Tedo Japaridze to Bulgaria

The Chair of Foreign Relations Committee and the Vice-President of PACE, Tedo Japaridze serves the working visit to Bulgaria to participate in the Conference of Chairs of Foreign Relations Committees of CoE Member State Parliaments. The Conference topic was “Democratic Security based on European Cooperation and Unity”. The PACE President, Pedro Agramunt, PACE Deputy-Secretary General, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, the President of Bulgarian National Assembly, Tsetska Tsacheva, the incumbent Minister of PACE and Foreign Minister of Bulgaria, Daniel Mitov, the Vice-Prime Minister of Bulgaria, the Interior Minister of Bulgaria, Rumiana Bachvarova and other famous politicians also participated in the Conference. The participants considered issues as follows: European security, migration crisis as the challenge for European society member states, Russian aggressive policy and economic problems. Tedo Japaridze, in his speech, emphasized altered context of security policy post 2008 war. As he stated, none of European countries can feel safe when the neighbor country encounters significant problems. “Georgian aspiration to EU and NATO is conditioned with will and the aspirations, which will allow Georgia start building democratic institutions with support by authoritative international structures”. As Mrs. Battaini-Dragoni responded, CoE Cabinet of Ministers will attach higher attention to security and territorial integrity of Georgia. Mr. Agramunt spoke about the role and capacities of the conference allowing discussion of safe and democratic Europe. Europe seeks for responses to challenges. Mr. Mitov noted that every European country need to support each other and find balance in observance of national interests and European values. All the issues considered will be submitted to the Heads of the states and the Governments of CoE member states. In this regards, particular attention was attached to CoE potential and PA. “For the countries such Georgia, experience of CoE member states is very important for solid foundation of institutional democracy. The countries, being under significant transformation, have no rich experience. We are ready to receive recommendations necessary for creation of dignified, powerful, safe and democratically developed state” – T. Japaridze stated. He noted that CoE and PACE, as well as other international organizations, shall not serve the venue for internal political confrontations of Georgia. “Our relations with these structures shall aim at their involvement in development and enhancement of common European values in the country”. Mr. Agramunt and other Chairs of the National Delegations, including Ukraine supported this position. T. Japaridze held bilateral meetings with the representatives of Ukraine, Romania, Armenia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic and other countries. The parties agreed to hold Georgia-Romania-Poland Foreign Committees meeting to develop the common proposals on EU and NATO integration issues. The preliminary agreement was also achieved to hold Ukraine-Moldova-Georgia Parliamentary Committee Heads meeting in Georgia, as well as the Georgia-Armenia Foreign Committee sitting. Mr. Japaridze invited a famous European politician, former Czech Foreign Minister and MP, Karel Schwarzenberg to Georgia.
