On 25 January 2022, during her official visit to Strasbourg, Nino Lomjaria, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights.

The Public Defender briefed the Human Rights Commissioner on the human rights situation in Georgia. Media environment, situation of equality and the need for monitoring human rights in the occupied territories were also topics of discussion.

Nino Lomjaria stressed the importance of the Commissioner’s support to human rights defenders and media representatives, who have been particularly pressured and attacked in recent years.

Talks also focused on the abolition of the State Inspector’s institution. The Public Defender informed the Council of Europe Commissioner of the constitutional complaint filed by her to request the declaration of the legislative changes adopted by the Parliament of Georgia on December 30, 2021 as unconstitutional.

On January 25, 2022, an online summit was held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries of Central Asia and China, convened at the initiative of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.

At the beginning of the event, a video was shown highlighting the key moments of friendship and the main achievements of cooperation between China and the Central Asian states over the past 30 years.

Then, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping made a speech and praised China's strategic partnership with the countries of this region in all areas of effective interaction.

Further, President of the PRC Xi Jinping invited the heads of the five states of Central Asia to speak separately. Then the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic S. Zhaparov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan E. Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan G. Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev spoke.

In his speech, the Head of Turkmenistan, emphasizing the centuries-old connection of the countries and peoples of this region with China, noted that the very fact of holding today's summit testifies to the importance attached to relations between the countries of Central Asia and the People's Republic of China, understanding the importance of steadily strengthening our friendship and cooperation.

The Great Silk Road, which passed through the territory of Central Asia from China, became a factor in the development and progress of the entire world civilization, where a huge and unique experience of interaction, good neighborliness, exchange of knowledge, achievements in science and culture was accumulated, the Leader of the Nation added.

As it was specifically stated during the meeting, today the cooperation of our countries has a noticeable constructive impact on ensuring global peace and stability. In this context, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan considers the People's Republic of China and the countries of Central Asia as its key partners and like-minded people in the effective implementation of the new philosophy in international practice - "Dialogue is a guarantee of peace".

The importance of the combined potential, powerful resource, industrial, technological base of the countries, which open up huge prospects for cooperation in the economy, where one of its priorities is the fuel and energy sector, was especially noted.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov put forward the strategic gas pipeline Turkmenistan-China, passing through the territory of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as an example of truly partnership relations based on equality, awareness of multilateral benefits.

The presence of objective mutual interests of the parties in the development of cooperation in the transport sector was also emphasized. It was noted that the project "Revival of the Great Silk Road" put forward by the Turkmen side, in its philosophy and geo-economic meaning, is associated with the Chinese global initiative "One Belt - One Road".

The importance of strengthening cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, education, sports, enhancing the state of scientific and cultural ties also became a separate topic of discussion during the summit.

The parties, among other things, paid special attention to consolidating joint efforts aimed at combating the spread of the pandemic and its socio-economic consequences. An idea was put forward to create a mechanism for regular meetings between representatives of the scientific and medical communities, epidemiological and sanitary services, and other relevant departments of countries of this format.

Congratulating the leadership of the People's Republic of China and the entire Chinese people on the upcoming Olympics, the Head of the Turkmen State said that the Winter Olympic Games would become a real celebration of sports, peace and friendship for millions of people around the world.

After the closing speech of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, the Heads of State adopted a Joint Statement on the results of the online summit.

25 января 2022 года состоялся онлайн-саммит, по случаю 30-летия установления дипломатических отношений между странами Центральной Азии и Китаем, созванный по инициативе Председателя Китайской Народной Республики Си Цзиньпина.

В начале мероприятия был показан видеоролик, освещающий ключевые моменты дружбы и основные достижения сотрудничества Китая с государствами ЦА за прошедшие 30 лет.

Затем выступил Председатель Китайской Народной Республики Си Цзиньпин, который дал высокую оценку стратегическому партнерству Китая со странами данного региона во всех сферах эффективного взаимодействия.

Далее Председатель КНР Си Цзиньпин пригласил глав пяти государств Центральной Азии выступить по отдельности. Были заслушаны выступления Президента Республики Казахстан К.Токаева, Президента Кыргызской Республики С. Жапарова, Президента Республики Таджикистан Э.Рахмона, Президента Туркменистана Г.Бердымухамедова и Президента Республики Узбекистан Ш.Мирзиеева.

В своей речи Глава Туркменистана, подчеркнув многовековую связь стран и народов данного региона с Китаем, отметил, что сам факт проведения сегодняшнего саммита свидетельствует о той значимости, которая придается отношениям между странами Центральной Азии и Китайской Народной Республикой, понимании важности неуклонного укрепления нашей дружбы и сотрудничества.

Великий Шелковый Путь, который проходил через территорию Центральной Азии из Китая, стал фактором развития и прогресса всей мировой цивилизации, где был накоплен огромный и уникальный опыт взаимодействия, добрососедства, обмена знаниями, достижениями в науке и культуре, добавил Лидер нации.

Как было особо констатировано в ходе встречи, сегодня сотрудничество наших стран оказывает заметное конструктивное влияние на обеспечение всеобщего мира и стабильности. В данном контексте, Президент Гурбангулы Бердымухамедов особо отметил, что Туркменистан рассматривает Китайскую Народную Республику и страны Центральной Азии в качестве своих ключевых партнеров и единомышленников в эффективном воплощении новой философии - «Диалог – гарантия мира» в международной практике.

Особо отмечена значимость совокупного потенциала, мощной ресурсной, промышленной, технологической базы стран, которые открывают огромные перспективы сотрудничества в экономике, где одним из его приоритетов является топливно-энергетическая сфера.

Примером подлинно партнерских отношений, основанных на равноправии, осознании многосторонних выгод Президент Гурбангулы Бердымухамедов выдвинул стратегический газопровод Туркменистан-Китай, проходящего по территории Казахстана и Узбекистана.

Также подчеркнуто наличие объективных взаимных интересов сторон в развитии сотрудничества в транспортной сфере. Отмечено, что выдвинутый туркменской стороной проект «Возрождение Великого Шелкового Пути» по своей философии и геоэкономическому смыслу сопрягается с китайской глобальной инициативой «Один пояс – один путь».

Важность укрепления сотрудничества в гуманитарной сфере, образовании, спорте, активизация состояния научных и культурных связей также стала отдельной темой обсуждений в ходе саммита.

Стороны в том числе уделили особое внимание консолидации совместных усилий, направленных на борьбу с распространением пандемии и ее социально-экономическими последствиями. Выдвинута идея по созданию механизма регулярных встреч между представителями научно-медицинских сообществ, эпидемиологических и санитарных служб, других профильных ведомств стран данного формата.

Поздравив руководство КНР и весь китайский народ с предстоящей Олимпиадой, Глава туркменского государства сказал, что Зимние Олимпийские игры, станут настоящим праздником спорта, мира и дружбы для миллионов людей на всей планете.

После заключительного выступления Председателя КНР Си Цзиньпина, Главы государств приняли совместное заявление по итогам онлайн-саммита.

The Vice Prime Minister of Georgia/Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), David Zalkaliani spoke over the phone with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, on 24 January 2022.
David Zalkaliani reaffirmed Georgia's unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and expressed his strong support for the country facing the difficult situation. The Georgian Foreign Minister also highlighted that Georgia and Ukraine are dealing with the same challenges caused by the occupation.
The sides exchanged information on the ongoing processes and the developments along the Ukrainian border. They also talked about communication with high level representatives of Ukraine and Georgia, in parallel to the western partners’ ongoing dialogue with Russia.
In this light, the sides positively assessed the international partners’ support and their unequivocal position that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and Ukraine, as well as the sovereign right of the two countries to choose for themselves their own future and decide whether they will pursue or not European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations are the red lines, which will not be crossed in the negotiation process, and that there will be no decision about Georgia and Ukraine without Georgia and Ukraine.
During the telephone conversation, the sides highlighted the international platforms and close bilateral communication between Georgia and Ukraine. The ministers agreed to continue high-level contacts by exchanging information and sharing their positions on the ongoing processes.
