The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has met with the members of the Council Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia

On 29 September 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili held a conclusive meeting with the representatives of the Council  Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST).
The sides focused special attention on granting a European perspective to Georgia and the efforts made in this regard. The COEST delegation once again congratulated Georgia on the European Council’s historic decision of June 2022 officially paving the way for the country to join the European Union. The European Union emphasized once again its firm support for Georgia's European future, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Yesterday's visit of the Belarusian delegation to the occupied territory of Abkhazia was strongly and unanimously condemned.
The COEST delegation also welcomed Georgia’s impressive progress on the road to European integration and its comprehensive reforms.
Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed Georgia’s foreign policy priorities, the security environment in the region and the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia. Special emphasis was put on the need of the European Union’s active involvement to address the threats facing the region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs once again confirmed the Georgian government’s strong readiness to implement the country's European agenda and priorities, including its obligations under the Association Agreement.
The COEST delegation evaluated its visit to Georgia highly positively.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia noted that as a result of the amendments implemented in the national legislation of Georgia, the Georgian driving licenses were harmonized with the EU standards.

    During the meeting, the Ministers of Internal Affairs of the two countries signed a protocol between Georgia and the Kingdom of Spain on the implementation of the "Agreement between the European Union and Georgia on the readmission of persons residing without authorization”. The mentioned agreement will contribute to strengthening cooperation between Georgia and Spain in the field of fighting against illegal migration effectively.

    At the end of the meeting, the Minister of the Interior of the Kingdom of Spain thanked Georgian colleague for the hospitality and expressed readiness to continue active collaboration with the Georgian side on priority issues for the law enforcement agencies of the two countries.

    On 31 January 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a meeting with the Vice Prime Minister for Reintegration of Moldova, Oleg Serebrian.
    Discussions focused on the agenda of cooperation between the two countries. The sides noted the traditionally friendly relations between Georgia and Moldova and the important issues of cooperation, both in bilateral and multilateral formats.
    The ministers once again confirmed the unwavering mutual support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the two countries.
    Talking points included the implementation of the peace and reconciliation policy in the territories of the two countries. Ilia Darchiashvili drew special attention to the severe humanitarian and social situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
    The sides discussed the difficult security environment on the European continent. In this regard, the challenges facing the two countries and the ways to deal with them were highlighted.
    Special attention was paid to the steps taken by Georgia and Moldova on the path of European integration.

    The annual meeting of heads of Georgian diplomatic missions abroad "Conference of Ambassadors 2022" continues in a working format. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Deputy Ministers met the Georgian ambassadors abroad.

    Along with the foreign policy achievements of the current year, the participants of the ambassadorial meeting also discussed the action plans for the next year. The conversation touched upon the challenges facing Georgian diplomacy and such topical issues of Georgia's foreign policy as: achieving the territorial integrity of Georgia through peaceful means; European and Euro-Atlantic integration; The role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the economic development of Georgia; cultural diplomacy; relations with diaspora; cooperation with international organizations; bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations; Administrative, organizational and consular issues.
    "The main priority of our government is to protect the national interests of the country. Georgia's interests are first of all - this is the main issue of our agenda, around which we are all working together", said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili during his speech at the "Ambassadors' Conference 2022".
    At the conference, special attention was paid to the importance of European and Euro-Atlantic integration and Georgia's achievements in this process. As the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted, joining the European Union is the cornerstone of Georgia's foreign policy. According to him, Georgia's application for EU membership is based on Georgia’s successful path in this direction, namely: ambitious reforms carried out by the government in a number of areas, tangible results achieved in the implementation of the Association Agreement, visa-free regime with the European Union and other achievements.
    The participants of the conference discussed the steps taken in 2022 towards joining NATO. Both the practical and political significance of the approval of a set of “tailored support” measures  for Georgia. Discussions at the conference also focused on the issue relating to the peaceful restoration of territorial integrity and de-occupation. Special note was taken of the importance of consolidating international efforts in the process of strengthening the peace and reconciliation policy for the restoration of territorial integrity.
    Speaking about the security challenges and the importance of establishing long-term peace in the region, the conference participants also discussed the Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative launched by the Prime Minister, the purpose of which, along with the development of a dialogue between the two neighboring countries, is to strengthen and outline the role of Georgia.
    The annual meeting of heads of diplomatic missions of Georgia abroad - "Ambassadors' Conference 2022" - is held from 26 to 28 December.

  • Ilia Darchiashvili has met with the French ambassador
    On 19 December 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, held his first meeting with the Ambassador of the French Republic to Georgia, Sheraz Gasri. The Minister congratulated the French diplomat on the start of her diplomatic mission in Georgia and wished her successful work.
     
    The sides noted with satisfaction the partnership relations and fruitful cooperation established between the two countries. Discussions focused on the political dialogue between Georgia and France, the dynamics of high-level bilateral visits and the future agenda. The sides emphasized the importance of the Dimitri Amilakhvari Georgian-French dialogue, which includes a wide range of political, defense, internal security, trade-economic, cultural and educational relations and reflects the close ties between the two countries. The sides confirmed their readiness to hold the second round of dialogue in the near future.

    Ilia Darchiashvili thanked the ambassador for France's support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for the non-recognition policy. Within the framework of the meeting, discussions focused on the issues of Georgia's integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic structures. The sides noted the progress achieved by Georgia on the road to European integration, the implementation of the 12-point plan and the importance of obtaining the status of a candidate country were noted. The French ambassador expressed her readiness to contribute to the further deepening of Georgian-French relations. She emphasized that France will remain an unwavering supporter of Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, European and Euro-Atlantic integration. At the end of the meeting, the sides confirmed their commitment to further strengthen the existing strategic cooperation between Georgia and France.

  • MEETING OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN WITH THE EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR CENTRAL ASIA

     

    On December 11, 2022, on the sidelines of the International Conference "Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace", timed to coincide with the International Day of Neutrality and the 27th anniversary of the Neutrality of Turkmenistan, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia Teri Hakala.

    During the meeting, a wide range of issues related to the current agenda and further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in a bilateral and multilateral formats was discussed.

    The parties noted the positive dynamics of the joint events held this year, which are rich in content, as well as the intensification of contacts at various levels. In this regard, the European diplomat stressed that Brussels highly appreciates and supports the expansion of an active dialogue with the Turkmen side.

    The officials stated that Turkmenistan and the EU demonstrate the coincidence or similarity of positions on many issues of international and regional politics.

    Speaking about the constructive building of relations between the states of the region, the effectiveness of the established mechanism of cooperation between the EU and the countries of Central Asia was confirmed.

    Diplomats called for strengthening inter-parliamentary ties between Turkmenistan and the EU.

    At the meeting, energy and transport sectors, cooperation in the fight against climate change, in the field of environmental protection and environmental security were also identified as promising areas of cooperation. In this context, the parties agreed on the need to promote specific programs and projects in the areas of vocational education, green energy, environmental protection and ecosystems.

    Discussing the significance of the ongoing events within the framework of the Ashgabat International Week dedicated to the Day of Neutrality of Turkmenistan, T.Hakala stressed that the EU fully supports the pragmatic proposals and initiatives of Turkmenistan, voiced at high-level meetings and at various international platforms, which are aimed at maintaining political and economic stability, strengthening the culture of peace and trust in the regional and global dimension.
