Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia Meets Serdar Berdimuhamedow, President of Turkmenistan

Deepening of the relations between Georgia and Turkmenistan, joint projects and transit potential of both countries were among the key topics discussed by and between Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia and Meets Serdar Berdimuhamedow, President of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat today.

The Head of Government of Georgia noted that Georgia noted that close political and economic relations with Turkmenistan are cherished by Georgia. Discussion was focused on the transport projects and their further advancement. It was noted that implementation of strategic projects increases the effectiveness and security of cargo shipments between Asia and Europe through the Caspian and Black Seas, resulting in the extension of trade and economic relations, advancement of regional links and connections. Georgia is investing a lot in the construction of new roads and railway, and increase of capacities at marine ports. Therefore, use of a corridor trespassing Georgia towards the Black Sea will be favorable for Turkmenistan. Discussion was also related to the strategic partnership in the energy sector and readiness was expressed towards deepening the existing cooperation further.

    During the meeting, the diplomats discussed a wide range of issues of Turkmen-Japanese cooperation based on the principles of friendship, trust and mutual respect. In this regard was noted the strategic, sustainable and long-term nature of cooperation between our countries.

    The Head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan thanked the Japanese side for the support provided in organizing a high-level working visit of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Japan.

    Discussing the importance of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan in multilateral formats, the parties exchanged views on the upcoming meeting of Foreign Ministers Dialogue "Central Asia + Japan" in Tokyo at the end of this year.

    It was emphasized that Japan is a significant partner of Turkmenistan in the field of investment and banking. The expediency of intensifying investment activities in close cooperation with leading Japanese banks and companies pointed out to this end. In this context, the importance of the Joint Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation was especially noted. Therefore the issues of organizing the 14th joint meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation in Tokyo, scheduled for the end of this year, were discussed.

    The parties also discussed the possibility of holding an inter-parliamentary forum "Central Asia + Japan" in Ashgabat next year, designed to become an effective platform for discussing topical issues of multilateral inter-parliamentary partnership.

    Along with this, the attention was paid to the organization of a number of cultural events in the short run, timed to 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Japan.

  • POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS BETWEEN TURKMENISTAN AND THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN

    On October 4, 2022, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan were held in the format of a videoconference.

    The Turkmen side was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev, and the Kazakh side - by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan E.Konuspaev.

    During the consultations, a constructive exchange of views on the bilateral agenda took place, the level of political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries was considered, as well as the progress in the implementation of previously reached agreements. Noting the key role of contacts at the highest and high levels in the development of bilateral relations, the parties discussed the organization of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

    There were also discussed aspects of preparing and holding important international events in Kazakhstan in October this year.

    The importance of a significant date - the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan, celebrated on October 5, 2022, was emphasized.

    A high level of interaction within the framework of international structures was noted.

    The diplomats voiced the mutual readiness of the parties to continue building up regional cooperation. In this context, the special significance of the IV Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia in the city of Cholpan-Ata, as well as the VI Summit of the Heads of the Caspian States in Ashgabat, was stressed.

    In frames of the talks, the parties paid attention to the current state and prospects for cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, noting a solid potential for joint work.

    Furthermore, the parties considered issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Interest was expressed in developing partnerships in the areas of science, education and healthcare.

    Today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s met with France-based Georgian sculptor Goudji Amashukeli.

    During his visit to the US in September 2021, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili presented the UN with a museum exhibition copy of The Knight in the Panther’s Skin, with its repoussé cover authored by Goudji Amashukeli, a celebrated France-based Georgian sculptor.

    This treasured, unique repoussé cover of national importance is made from silver and uses up to twenty different types of gemstones. The copy is displayed in one of the most prominent spots at the UN Headquarters, in New York. Goudji Amashukeli’s sculptures, symbolic artworks, medallions, jewelry, and golden and silver sculptured items on mythological and religious themes are owned by world-famous museums, galleries, and private collections. Each artwork by Goudji Amashukeli is unique, never repeated.

    Hailed as Master of Art, Goudji Amashukeli has been made Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters  in recognition of his exceptional merit in art, also being Knight of the National Order of Merit and the holder of the title of Maître d’art.

    His works are preserved at Vatican and Louvre Museums, Notre-Dame de Paris Museum, the Museums of Decorative Arts in Paris and Lyon, Dobrée Museum of Nantes, Museum Mandet de Riom, and others.

    Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s met with TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan.

    The parties discussed ongoing and prospective future cooperation. Attention was paid to the growing dynamic of restoring tourism in Georgia and the importance of improving services in this direction.
    As it was noted, the pandemic has created many challenges for airport operators. The Head of Government welcomed the operative decisions of TAV seeking to improve the situation, also expressing hope that more innovations will be offered in the future.
    The importance of encouraging new airlines and routes was underling at the meeting. According to the Prime Minister, the Government of Georgia is ready to actively collaborate with TAV in this direction.
    The meeting was attended from the Georgian side by the Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, and from the TAV Airports’ side by the Chair of Executive Committee/Vice President, Franck Mereyde, and the General Manager of TAV Georgia, Tea Zakaradze.
    TAV Georgia is an affiliated company of TAV Airports Holding. The company has invested 220 million USD in Georgia, consequently putting into operation new passenger terminals at Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports. The investment made in 2016-2017 resulted in the full rehabilitation of the runway at Tbilisi International Airport and the construction of a new arrivals terminal.

  • MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TATARSTAN OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

    On September 26, 2022, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Rustam Minnikhanov, who arrived in our country to participate in the celebrations on the occasion of the Independence Day of Turkmenistan.

    Expressing sincere gratitude for the warm welcome, the guest conveyed warm greetings from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to the head of state, stressing that he was very glad to have the opportunity to visit Ashgabat during these holidays.

    Having cordially congratulated the head of state and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the 31st anniversary of the independence of Turkmenistan, the head of the Republic of Tatarstan addressed his best wishes to the fraternal Turkmen people.

    Thanking for the congratulations and kind words, the head of Turkmenistan conveyed warm greetings to the President of the Russian Federation. Noting that it is very pleasant that friends from Tatarstan share our joy and take part in events dedicated to the main holiday of our country, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to President Rustam Minnikhanov for the constant attention to strengthening friendly Turkmen-Tatarstan relations, which have now entered a qualitatively new level.

    In continuation of the meeting, an interested exchange of views took place on priority issues of bilateral cooperation, covering a wide range of areas and successfully developing within the framework of a constructive interstate dialogue between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.

    As emphasized during the conversation, the long-term cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation is an example of an effective mutually beneficial partnership. Trade and economic ties, which have recently been given a new impetus, occupy an important place on the agenda of diverse bilateral cooperation.

    The business circles of Tatarstan express their interest in expanding their presence in the promising Turkmen market, where a favorable investment climate and all conditions for efficient work have been created.

    Along with this, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation are linked by long-standing fruitful contacts in the humanitarian sphere, where a rich experience of interaction in the field of science, education and culture has been accumulated and good traditions have developed, which today receive a worthy continuation.

    At the end of the meeting, expressing confidence that the high level of mutual understanding inherent in bilateral relations will continue to serve as a solid basis for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation across its entire spectrum, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Rustam Minnikhanov wished each other health and success, and fraternal Turkmen and Tatar peoples - well-being and prosperity.
