U.S.-Georgian security and defense cooperation is the cornerstone of our strategic partnership. Today, Ambassador Degnan visited Georgia’s Davit Aghmashenebeli National Defense Academy (NDA) and met with Rector Brigadier General Mamia Balakhadze.
The NDA is the backbone of the Georgian Defense Forces’ officer corps. The United States Embassy is proud to offer support to its mission of educating and training future officers.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s meeting with China’s new Ambassador to Georgia, Zhou Qian
Today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with China’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia, Zhou Qian.The Head of Government wished the newly appointed Ambassador success and expressed hope in continuous productive cooperation between Georgia and China.The meeting pointed out that China is among Georgia’s top five trade partners, with this year’s January-June trade turnover between the countries reaching 922 million USD. The conversation also revolved around Chinese investments, namely highlighting that Chinese FDAs exceed 695 million USD, a fact welcomed by Georgia.The meeting also focused on tourism, singling out direct flights between Georgia and China as a contributing factor behind a dynamic growth in tourist flows.The parties also expressed hope that the next annual meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation of Georgia and the People’s Republic of China will be held soon. The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, has handed over copies of his credentials to the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of GeorgiaOn 11 July 2022, the Ambassador Designate of the Republic of Turkey to Georgia, Ali Kaan Orbai, presented copies of credentials to the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia.Lasha Darsalia congratulated the Ambassador on the launch of the diplomatic mission in Georgia and wished him success in his future activities.
Following the presentation of credentials ceremony, the sides held a bilateral meeting, during which the sides discussed the priorities on the agenda of Georgia-Turkey bilateral relations and outlined prospects for future cooperation.
The sides expressed the hope that the close cooperation and strategic partnership between Georgia and Turkey will further deepen. The Turkish ambassador once again confirmed Turkey's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS HOSTED US AMBASSADOR TO GEORGIA, KELLY DEGNAN AT THE MIA ACADEMY
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of US-Georgia diplomatic relations, Ambassador Kelly Degnan visited the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The guests were hosted by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Butkhuzi. The presentation of the infrastructural projects, which were implemented with the partnership and support of the USA, was held at the Academy.Ambassador Kelly Degnan and the representatives of the US embassy visited mock courtroom, cyber lab, mock border checkpoint, forensic tools, tactical training room and equipment.The US ambassador spoke about the importance of tactical training of law enforcement officers and the integration of international practices into the training process.Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Butkhuzi expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador of the United States of America for US contribution to the Ministry’s capacity building over the years and close cooperation.At the end of the ceremony, the US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, handed over the Virtual Shooting Equipment (FATS) to the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.The US embassy in Georgia has been cooperating with the Ministry of Internal Affairs for many years on the matters of road safety, cyber security, domestic violence, trafficking, tactical training, enhancing the capacities of MIA Academy, juvenile crime prevention, etc.Source: police.ge
Prime Minister’s meeting with Turkey’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
Today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Fatma Ceren Yazgan, Turkey's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia.
The farewell meeting with the Ambassador discussed the good-neighborly relations between the two countries and ways to further their strategic partnership.
The conversation focused on the regional situation and the need to support peace and stability, with emphasis on peace and stability as the preconditions of the region's development and lasting prosperity. The parties also discussed Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili's Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative for the South Caucasus, pointing out that Georgia has always supported peaceful coexistence in the South Caucasus, remaining committed to promoting regional dialogue.
The meeting paid special attention to the economic cooperation between the two countries, underlining ongoing regional projects as clear demonstrations of the effective cooperation and reliable partnership between Georgia and Turkey.
The Head of Government thanked the Turkish Diplomat for her contribution to developing the strategic partnership between Turkey and Georgia, and wished her success in her future professional endeavors.

Located in the southern foot of the Caucasus and the east coast of Black Sea, it has been a bridge between the East and West since ancient times. Although separated by mountains and seas, China and Georgia enjoy a longstanding friendship which is well proofed by the ancient Silk Road. Both countries are famous for their splendid culture and beautiful landscape, and the common vision of pursuing peace, independence and development has made our traditional friendship to flourish timelessly and beam with new vitality.On June 9, 1992, China and Georgia formally established diplomatic relations, making China one of the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Georgia. Over the past 30 years, China and Georgia have always been good friends enjoying mutual trust and good partners engaged in sincere cooperation. They have worked together to usher the friendly cooperation into the mature period, promoted sound and steady development of bilateral relations, deepened cooperation in various fields, and set a good example of exchanges between countries from different regions and of distinctive sizes and cultures.The foundation built on trust is solid. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have always adhered to the principle of equality and mutual trust, respected each other's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and supported each other's social system and path of development. With the joint efforts of two governments and peoples, the political mutual trust between China and Georgia has continuously getting deepened, laying a solid foundation for cooperation in various fields. The mutual cooperation under the BRI is thriving. Georgia is the first country to sign a free trade agreement with China in the region. China has become Georgia’s largest export market and is becoming second largest trading partner. High-quality Georgian products such as wine, mineral water and nuts are gradually managing their way into the vast consumer market of China. The China-Europe Railway Express continues to facilitate regional connectivity and injects vitality into the countries along the route, including Georgia. The railway modernization, combined cycle power plant construction and other projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises have played an important role in improving local infrastructure and have become conscientious projects that benefit people's livelihood. Bilateral cooperation in investment, communication, high technology etc. is witnessing broad prospects. The bilateral practical cooperation under the BRI and in various fields will continue to deepen and bring positive results.Sincere friendship is key to inclusiveness and mutual learning. China and Georgia enjoy profound traditional friendship. The two peoples have had the tradition of mutual understanding and mutual learning since ancient times. In recent years, people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Georgia have become closer, cooperation in education, tourism, sports, publishing and other fields has continued to deepen. The Georgian athletes overcame the obstacles caused by the pandemic to participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. They not only improved their results, but also gained the attention and affection of the Chinese audience.Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, China and Georgia have stayed united in these difficult times, supported and helped each other. The two sides have actively cooperated in the fight against the virus, and demonstrated with practical actions that “a friend in need is a friend indeed”. The Georgian people expressed immediate support and solidarity towards China. With the strong support of the Georgian government, the vaccination process of the Chinese citizens residing in Georgia, ‘Spring Sprout’ program was successfully implemented. In the past two years, China has actively shared epidemic prevention and treatment methods with Georgia, and has provided an assistance totaling 200,000 doses of Chinese vaccines, as well as ventilators and other medical supplies and equipment. The two countries have overcome the difficulties together and jointly built a China-Georgian community of shared health.This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Georgia. This is an important year that serves as a link between past and future. The two sides will jointly sum up the successful experience from the development of bilateral relations and make cooperation plans for the next 30 years. China will continue to work with Georgia to uphold the spirit of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, deepen pragmatic cooperation, and promote sound, steady and sustainable development of bilateral relations.
