The Vice Prime Minister of Georgia/Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), David Zalkaliani spoke over the phone with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, on 24 January 2022.
David Zalkaliani reaffirmed Georgia's unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and expressed his strong support for the country facing the difficult situation. The Georgian Foreign Minister also highlighted that Georgia and Ukraine are dealing with the same challenges caused by the occupation.
The sides exchanged information on the ongoing processes and the developments along the Ukrainian border. They also talked about communication with high level representatives of Ukraine and Georgia, in parallel to the western partners’ ongoing dialogue with Russia.
In this light, the sides positively assessed the international partners’ support and their unequivocal position that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and Ukraine, as well as the sovereign right of the two countries to choose for themselves their own future and decide whether they will pursue or not European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations are the red lines, which will not be crossed in the negotiation process, and that there will be no decision about Georgia and Ukraine without Georgia and Ukraine.
During the telephone conversation, the sides highlighted the international platforms and close bilateral communication between Georgia and Ukraine. The ministers agreed to continue high-level contacts by exchanging information and sharing their positions on the ongoing processes.

    Discussions focused on the current issues on the agenda of relations between Georgia and the Republic of Armenia. The sides exchanged views on the possibilities of strengthening trade-economic relations and steps to be taken in this direction.
    The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Prime Minister of Armenia welcomed the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

  • ​Ilia Darchiashvili has held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia

    On 28 April 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili had his first telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Eva-Maria Liimets.
    The Estonian Minister congratulated his Georgian counterpart on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and wished him success in his future endeavors.
    Discussing issues on the bilateral agenda, the Ministers underlining the long-standing friendly relations between Georgia and Estonia and the importance of further deepening the political dialogue.
    Particular attention was paid to Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration agenda. Focusing on Georgia's application for EU membership, Ilia Darchiashvili spoke about the steps taken by the Georgian government to coordinate the process of completing the EU Self- Assessment Questionnaire. The Minister stressed the importance of partners’ strong support for the implementation of Georgia's priorities, as well as the need to take into account the common interests of the associated trio countries on the path to European integration. Eva-Maria Liimets reaffirmed Estonia's unwavering support for Georgia on its path to EU integration.
    The Ministers reviewed the regional security environment resulting from the ongoing war in Ukraine, and exchanged information on the two countries' political and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and their involvement in international efforts.
    The Ministers expressed their readiness to continue intensive cooperation and conduct high-level bilateral visits.

  • The Czech Minister for European Affairs has reaffirmed his support for Georgia on its path to European integration
    The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili started his visit to the Czech Republic by a meeting with the Minister for European Affairs, Mikuláš BekThe main topic of conversation was the forthcoming Czech Presidency of the European Union, Georgia's application for EU membership and the ongoing procedures for completing the EU membership questionnaire.
    At the meeting, the Czech side reaffirmed its unwavering support for Georgia's integration goals and for the EU enlargement policy. As the Minister of European Affairs noted, during the presidency, the priority for the Czech Republic will be the associated trio and the proper positioning of all three countries. In this regard, special note was taken of Georgia's successful reforms in the EU integration process, progress on the implementation of the Association Agreement and many other areas providing an important basis for further success in the process.
    The Ministers also focused on the Russian aggression in Ukraine, Georgia’s and the Czech Republic’s support for Ukraine, and the security situation in the region. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia thanked the Czech Republic for its practical support to Georgia in the European integration process.
    During his visit to the Czech Republic, Ilia Darchiashvili will meet with his Czech counterpart and the Speaker of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.

    On 29-30 March in Tbilisi, the European External Actions Service (EEAS) Managing Director for Common Security and Defence Policy and Crisis Response Mr. Pawel Herczynski and Director General of EU Military Staff Vice-Admiral Hervé Bléjean co-chaired with the Georgian First Deputy Minister of Defence Ms Lela Chikovani the EU-Georgia Consultations on Security and Defence.

    On 29-30 March in Tbilisi, the European External Actions Service (EEAS) Managing Director for Common Security and Defence Policy and Crisis Response Mr. Pawel Herczynski and Director General of EU Military Staff Vice-Admiral Hervé Bléjean co-chaired with the Georgian First Deputy Minister of Defence Ms Lela Chikovani the EU-Georgia Consultations on Security and Defence. During the annual consultations and in the context of the military aggression against Ukraine,  the sides discussed the regional security situation and ways to further deepen cooperation between the EU and Georgia in the security and defence domain, including tackling hybrid threats, cyber security challenges and fighting disinformation. EEAS delegation also met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Security and Chairman of Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Relations.
