The meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the countries-neighbors of Afghanistan took place

On the 8th of September 2021, the meetingof Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the countries-neighbors of Afghanistan was held in the videoconference format. The meeting was organized on the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

These consultations were also attended by the heads of the foreign policy agencies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev expressed the vision of the Turkmen side on the issues of currents events in the neighboring country and in the whole region.

 “The current meeting is regarded as an opportunity to work out a consolidated regional approach to peace and security in Afghanistan and the further comprehensive development of this country” was underlined in the speech of the Turkmen side.

On the outcome of the talks the parties adopted Joint Statement of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of countries-neighbors of Afghanistan.

  • THE VISIT OF THE GOVERNMENT DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN TO UZBEKISTAN

    On January 17, 2022, in accordance with the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan, a working visit of the government delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers S. Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Uzbekistan took place.

    During the visit, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

    At the beginning of the meeting, S. Berdimuhamedov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the President of Uzbekistan. In turn, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his best wishes for peace and prosperity to the President and the people of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction the high dynamics of the development of interstate relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, which are growing stronger based on a trusting political dialogue at the highest state level.

    Also during the visit, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov.

    During the talks, the interlocutors considered a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The close interaction of the two countries in the international arena within the framework of international and regional organizations was emphasized.

    Paying special attention to cooperation in the field of trade and the economy, the parties expressed interest in diversifying and increasing mutual trade turnover. In this regard, the importance of creating a border Turkmen-Uzbek trade zone, agreed upon during the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Tashkent on October 4-5, 2021, was emphasized. It was also noted that the priority areas of cooperation between the two states are the transport and energy sectors.

    The parties expressed confidence that the traditionally established brotherly relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, thanks to joint efforts, will continue to develop dynamically and deepen in the spirit of mutually beneficial partnership, for the benefit of our countries and peoples.

    In addition, during the visit, a meeting of the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan was held at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan. At the meeting, topical issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of health protection were discussed and the need for the exchange of experience in the field of prevention of infectious diseases was expressed.

    Tashkent also hosted a meeting of representatives of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan with representatives of business circles of Uzbekistan. Following the results of this meeting, a number of documents between representatives of the private sector of the two countries were signed.

  • TURKMEN-UZBEK INTER-MFA CONSULTATIONS WERE HELD

    Today, on January 17, inter-ministerial consultations between the foreign policy agencies of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were held in Tashkent. The Turkmen side at the meeting was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan B. Myatiev, the Uzbek side - by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan V. Norov.

    During the consultations, the parties noted the dynamics of the development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations, emphasizing the key role of high-level visits in promoting bilateral relations.

    Stating the positive experience of interaction between the two countries within the framework of international and regional organizations, in particular the UN and its structural divisions, the parties stressed the commitment of both parties to the search for effective multilateral mechanisms to maintain stability, economic growth and security in the region and in the world.

    Particular emphasis was placed on intensifying cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, where there is a solid potential for joint work. In this regard, the importance of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation was noted. The issues of developing the legal framework for cooperation between the two countries were also discussed.

    Speaking about interaction in the region, the parties stressed the unity in the desire to help brotherly Afghanistan to achieve peace, harmony and stability as soon as possible. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan continue to provide comprehensive economic and humanitarian support to Afghanistan.

    Also during the meeting, issues of deepening cooperation in the transport and logistics, energy, chemical, industrial sectors and in the field of information security were discussed. In addition, the parties considered issues of interaction in the field of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

  • A REPRESENTATIVE DELEGATION OF AFGHANISTAN ARRIVED IN TURKMENISTAN

    On January 14, 2022, an Afghan delegation headed by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, arrived in Turkmenistan.

    On January 15, within the framework of the visit to Ashgabat, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi in a narrow format. During the conversation, the Foreign Ministers of the two fraternal states discussed the development and strengthening the partnership in a wide range of areas.

    Then, the meeting continued in an expanded format, during which the parties exchanged views on priority areas of the bilateral agenda. In particular, the interlocutors considered topical issues in the field of political-diplomatic, trade-economic and humanitarian cooperation.

    The effectiveness of the Turkmen-Afghan negotiations, which took place during several visits of the Turkmen delegations to Afghanistan, was noted. In this context, the parties emphasized the significant role of the dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries in the development of interstate relations.

    Particular attention at the talks was paid to joint infrastructure projects, which are an important aspect of trade and economic cooperation. In this regard, the parties discussed the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line. The ministers also noted the joint work on the construction of a railway from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

    The interlocutors noted the need to further intensify Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in the field of providing regional security.

    R.Meredov stressed that Turkmenistan is undoubtedly, interested in the political and economic stability of Afghanistan, the well-being and unity of the Afghan people. In this regard, the Turkmen side confirmed that it would continue to provide regular, humanitarian support to the Afghan people, based on the principles of good neighborliness and centuries-old friendship.

    Following the results of the meetings held within the framework of the visit of the Afghan delegation to Ashgabat, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan addressed the representatives of the media. During the address, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, stating the positive and constructive nature of the current dialogue, summarized the results of the Turkmen-Afghan negotiations aimed at expansion of multifaceted effective partnership between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

  • VISIT OF THE GOVERNMENT DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN TO IRAN

    On the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan, the governmental delegation is on a working visit to Tehran on January 8-9 this year to hold working meetings on the important aspects of relations between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

    Today, the delegation of Turkmenistan led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a series of meetings in the government of Iran.

    During talks with Iranian Oil Minister Javad Ovji, the sides discussed expansion of trade and economic partnership, as well as exchanged views on the implementation of interstate agreements on priority areas of cooperation between the two countries.

    It was particularly noted that cooperation in oil and gas, as well as in the oil refining industry are the priority areas of bilateral cooperation. In this regard, the sides expressed the need for further intensification of effective partnership in trade, economic and energy fields.

    On the same day, the Turkmen delegation held talks with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Rostam Ghasemi. During the meeting, given the huge potential of the two countries, a special emphasis was placed on the development of cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, industry, transport and communications, in particular, expansion of international and regional road and rail transport.

    The Turkmen side emphasized that Iran is one of the main trade and economic partners for Turkmenistan. An important role in intensifying the work belongs to the Joint Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation, the 16th meeting of which was held in Tehran in October last year.

    On the same day, the government delegation of Turkmenistan held a meeting with Vice President of IRI Mohsen Rezaei, during which they discussed current issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

    In this regard, the parties noted the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran, which is based on a mutually trusting political and diplomatic dialogue and effective trade and economic cooperation.

    In the afternoon, the delegation of Turkmenistan, within the framework of a working visit, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan.

    During the meeting, the sides discussed the priority issues of the bilateral agenda. The sides also noted the coincidence or similarity of positions of the two countries on key aspects of global and regional policy of mutual interest, particularly in the field of ensuring universal peace, security and sustainable development.

    The delegations of Turkmenistan and Iran expressed the need to further expand and strengthen bilateral partnership in politics, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

  • TURKMENISTAN AND AFGHANISTAN ARE COMMITTED TO DEVELOPING BILATERAL TIES ACROSS THE ENTIRE SPECTRUM OF COOPERATION

    At present, the Turkmen delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev is in Afghanistan.

    Today, on January 8, the delegation of Turkmenistan held a series of meetings in the government of Afghanistan. In particular, meetings were held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Deputy Chairman of the Government of Afghanistan Abdul Salam Hanafi, with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, with the Minister of Mines and Petroleum Shahabuddin Delawar, and with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Mawlawi Sadar Azam.

    During the constructive talks, the sides discussed current issues of the bilateral agenda and reviewed the key areas of Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

    The parties paid special attention to intensifying the pace of joint projects in key sectors. In this regard, the two countries expressed their readiness for further cooperation in promoting construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line and the railroad from Turkmenistan to some provinces of Afghanistan.

    The priority issues of this meeting include ensuring the well-being and stable development on the Afghan land and the possibility of integrating the country into large-scale economic, energy and transport-communications projects of regional importance.

    During the current meeting, the readiness of the Turkmen side, as a neighboring and neutral state, to promote establishment of a relevant dialogue and create conditions for the soonest establishment of peace, harmony and unity in Afghanistan was once again emphasized.

    The Afghan side expressed special gratitude to the leadership and people of Turkmenistan, who provide regular support to the neighboring country.
