Deputy Foreign Minister, A. Khvtisiashvili met with the Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Republic of Korea to Georgia

The Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Khvtisiashvili met with the Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Republic of Korea to Georgia, Chung Dae-soo.

Alexander Khvtisiashvili thanked Chung Dae-soo for the support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and for the Korean Government’s humanitarian assistance to Georgia in dealing with COVID-19 consequences. The sides agreed to further exchange their pandemic experience.

Discussing a broad spectrum of bilateral and multilateral relations, the sides highlighted the Air Traffic Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of Korea signed in February 2021, which lays the groundwork for intensive air communication, people-to-people contacts and tourism.

The sides paid special attention to trade-economic cooperation between the two countries. The need to fully use the trade-economic potential of the two countries and to carry out the feasibility study of the free trade agreement was also highlighted during the meeting.

    On January 24 a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister for External Affairs of the Republic of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

    During the conversation, the ministers discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral relations. The parties noted the importance they attach to the expansion and deepening of comprehensive ties in the areas of political and diplomatic contacts, trade-economic cooperation, cultural and humanitarian exchanges. The parties stressed the need for the speedy implementation of the agreements reached at the highest state level in recent years, primarily during meetings and telephone conversations between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Republic of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    In this regard, the ministers exchanged views on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, emphasizing the need to intensify work at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

    The heads of the foreign affairs agencies paid special attention to the preparations for the First “Central Asia-India” Summit, which will be held in the coming days via videoconference.

  • TURKMEN-UZBEK INTER-MFA CONSULTATIONS WERE HELD

    Today, on January 17, inter-ministerial consultations between the foreign policy agencies of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were held in Tashkent. The Turkmen side at the meeting was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan B. Myatiev, the Uzbek side - by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan V. Norov.

    During the consultations, the parties noted the dynamics of the development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations, emphasizing the key role of high-level visits in promoting bilateral relations.

    Stating the positive experience of interaction between the two countries within the framework of international and regional organizations, in particular the UN and its structural divisions, the parties stressed the commitment of both parties to the search for effective multilateral mechanisms to maintain stability, economic growth and security in the region and in the world.

    Particular emphasis was placed on intensifying cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, where there is a solid potential for joint work. In this regard, the importance of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation was noted. The issues of developing the legal framework for cooperation between the two countries were also discussed.

    Speaking about interaction in the region, the parties stressed the unity in the desire to help brotherly Afghanistan to achieve peace, harmony and stability as soon as possible. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan continue to provide comprehensive economic and humanitarian support to Afghanistan.

    Also during the meeting, issues of deepening cooperation in the transport and logistics, energy, chemical, industrial sectors and in the field of information security were discussed. In addition, the parties considered issues of interaction in the field of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

  • Teimuraz Janjalia has held a meeting with State Secretaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova

    On 13 January 2022, an online-meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Teimuraz Janjalia and the State Secretaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Ruslan Bolbocean and Vladimir Cuc.

    The bilateral and multilateral relations between Georgia and Moldova, as well as prospects of their future development were discussed at the meeting. The parties underlined the importance of the 30th anniversary of our diplomatic relations in 2022, in light of which various events will take place in the two countries.
    Both sides expressed readiness to intensify bilateral political dialogue, including the exchange of the high and the highest-level visits.
    It was underlined that despite the pandemic, the positive trend of our trade-economic relations has been maintained. The parties outlined the significance of further deepening the existing cooperation in this domain, including in the field of tourism.

    Particular emphasis was made on the direction of the European integration, including the existing successful interaction in frames of the Eastern Partnership, Associated Trio, and the sides stressed importance of strengthening sectoral cooperation and joint projects in this framework. Likewise, the parties underlined significance of one of our shared priority topics – connectivity, and in this respect, full utilization of the Black Sea resources was highly regarded by the colleagues.

    Taking into account our common aspirations and interests, both sides underlined importance of intensification of the visits and high-level meetings with our partners in the format of the Associated Trio, through promoting existing, as well as new formats of dialogue.
    At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain active interaction and promote the mutually beneficial future cooperation.

  • Diaspora Business Forum is held in Georgia

    The Diaspora Business Forum is held on 10, 11 and 12 December, through the financial support of the European Union, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
    The forum aims to promote the involvement of the diaspora in the economic development of the country, to stimulate cooperation between compatriots living abroad and local businesses, to establish business contacts and to increase access to new markets for local businesses. The participants of the event - compatriots living abroad and foreign guests - have the opportunity to get acquainted with the investment and entrepreneurial environment of Georgia, state programs and initiatives to support business.
    The opening part of the Diaspora Business Forum took place on 10 December at the Biltmore Hotel Tbilisi. EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzel greeted the participants with a video address. The forum was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Vladimer Konstantinidi and the IOM Georgia Chief of Mission, Sanja Celebic-Lokovac. The event was attended by state agencies ("Produce in Georgia", Georgian Agency for Innovation and Technology), representatives of the private sector and up to 15 diaspora communities from Germany, France, Canada, U.S. and foreign guests.

    Within the framework of the 28th OSCE Ministerial Council, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Albania, Sweden, Poland, and North Macedonia, as the previous, current, incoming, and future Chairpersons of the OSCE issued the following statement - STOCKHOLM “QUADRIGA” STATEMENT: OUR COMMITMENTS, OUR SECURITY, OUR OSCE.
    The so-called Quadriga reaffirms its commitment to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, within its internationally recognized borders and underlines its concern about the continuing deterioration of the human rights situation in the Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions.
    The Quadriga, on behalf of the OSCE, expresses unwavering support for the Geneva International Discussions (GID) and reaffirms that the OSCE is committed to continuing its leadership of this format, together with the European Union and the United Nations. It is important the GID make progress on core issues of non-use of violence and international security arrangements, as well as the return of internally displaced persons and refugees.
    The document also calls for the commitments made in the ceasefire agreement of 2008 to be implemented immediately and in full.
