The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, has named the 2020 parliamentary election date – October 31.

The president addressed society: “I urge you to spend this period, these two months until election day, as peacefully as possible.” “In current circumstances, when we underwent COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to prepare very calmly for the elections.

This election has a special meaning! We will reaffirm our country’s democracy,” stressed the President. "30 years ago, on October 28, 1990, Georgia held democratic elections even then. We must continue this tradition, strengthen it, and present ourselves to the world as an extremely democratic country. We can do it!”, Said Salome Zurabishvili.

  • Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia Meets Serdar Berdimuhamedow, President of Turkmenistan

    Deepening of the relations between Georgia and Turkmenistan, joint projects and transit potential of both countries were among the key topics discussed by and between Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia and Meets Serdar Berdimuhamedow, President of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat today.

    The Head of Government of Georgia noted that Georgia noted that close political and economic relations with Turkmenistan are cherished by Georgia. Discussion was focused on the transport projects and their further advancement. It was noted that implementation of strategic projects increases the effectiveness and security of cargo shipments between Asia and Europe through the Caspian and Black Seas, resulting in the extension of trade and economic relations, advancement of regional links and connections. Georgia is investing a lot in the construction of new roads and railway, and increase of capacities at marine ports. Therefore, use of a corridor trespassing Georgia towards the Black Sea will be favorable for Turkmenistan. Discussion was also related to the strategic partnership in the energy sector and readiness was expressed towards deepening the existing cooperation further.

    President Salome Zourabichvili awarded posthumously Prince Raimondo Umberto Maria Orsini d'Aragona the Medal of Honor for his outstanding contribution to the strengthening of relations between Georgia and the Holy See and for his numerous charitable activities in Georgia. The President presented the award during her working visit to the Holy See to his widow, Princess Ketevan Bagration of Mukhrani, Ambassador of Georgia to the Holy See, and their children, Lelio Nicolò OrsiniLuisa Eleonora Orsini and Dorothea Orsini.

    The President stated, “The loss of Prince Raimondo Orsini is a great pain for both Georgia and Italy. This man represented the unity between our two nations. This was a man who, during the most difficult period in the history of Georgia, started a charitable activity for the benefit of Georgia and every Georgia, and who did not stop until the last minute of his life.

    “He was the founder of St. George’s Shield in Rome, one of the main charitable and cultural organizations. Those children he helped remember the support that Prince Orsini gave them when they had cancer.

    “Prince Raimondo Orsini made a great contribution and strengthened the relations between Georgia and the Holy See. For this and many other honorable and worthy reasons, I want to hand over this Medal of Honor to his wife and children.”

    Ambassador Bagration of Mukhrani thanked the President for recognizing the work of her late husband and noted that their family has been contributing to the development of bilateral relations for 30 years.

  • The President of Turkmenistan to visit Iran in the coming days – media

    President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov will pay an official visit to Iran in the coming days, TASS reports with reference to the IRNA news agency.

    This will be a two-day visit, during which it is planned to sign an agreement on strengthening cooperation. Along with the head of state, a government delegation will also arrive in Iran.

    The Turkmen leader will visit the neighboring country on the invitation of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. One of the first congratulating Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his election to the highest state post, Raisi in a congratulatory message stressed that Turkmenistan occupies a special place in Iran's relations with neighboring countries.

    Earlier it became known that Iran will double the import of Turkmen gas for swap deliveries under the scheme Turkmenistan-Iran-Azerbaijan.

    On June 6, 2022, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the First Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chairperson of the UN Sustainable Development Group, Ms. Amina Mohammed.

    Turkmenistan became the first country of the Central Asian region, which was visited by a high-ranking representative of the UN as part of a working trip undertaken to participate in the upcoming Second International High-Level Conference "Water for Sustainable Development" in Tajikistan.

    Expressing gratitude for the time devoted to the meeting, the guest conveyed warm greetings from UN Secretary General António Guterres and noted that she was very glad to have the opportunity to visit independent neutral Turkmenistan, which is not only one of the most dynamically developing states on the planet, but also a long-standing, reliable partner of the United Nations Organization in the Central Asian region.

    Having cordially greeted Ms. Amina Mohammed, the head of state conveyed his best wishes to the UN leadership. As noted, Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to cooperation with major international organizations, primarily with the UN, which is a time-demanded platform for conducting a productive and effective dialogue on topical issues of our time.

    During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the state and prospects for the development of long-term fruitful cooperation, evidence of the effectiveness of which are dozens of projects implemented in various fields. They also discussed possible areas of joint work within the framework of the Agenda for Sustainable Development for the period up to 2030, which is closely related to the key goals and objectives outlined in the National Program for the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052.

    Ms. Amina Mohammed expressed the deep interest of the organization she represents in further deepening and steadily building up the traditional partnership that meets the interests of the well-being of all mankind and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

    Saying goodbye, the Head of the Turkmen state and the First Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Amina Mohammed, head of the UN Sustainable Development Group, exchanged mutual good wishes, expressing confidence in the successful continuation of a constructive dialogue built on a long-term and mutually trusting basis .
