Co-chairmen of Turkmen – Japanese Committee for economic cooperation have online session
The Foreign Ministry hosted online meeting of co-chairmen of Turkmen – Japanese Committee for economic cooperation where expansion of interstate relations has been discussed.
It was highlighted that both sides pay special importance to regular joint sessions of the Committee, business meetings and forums, which allow finding key vectors of partnership taking into account long-term perspective. At the same time, special focus was made on the fact that goodwill and mutual interest supported by specific proposals are the platforms for further activation of established productive contacts.
Sharing the views on practical implementation of bilateral agreements reached at previous session, presence of wide opportunities was noted in the context of large-scale programmes of modernization and intensive development of national economy, its industrial sector, especially gas processing and petrochemical industries.
Projects planned to be implemented and under realization in our country with participation of leading Japanese companies have been reviewed during the session. Such spheres as transport, power energy, agriculture, health protection, communications, tourism and ecology have been noted as perspective for consolidation of efforts and interests.
With regard to transit of Turkmen economy to digital systems, the sphere of high technologies has been named among priority directions of partnership. Training of personnel including by organization of practical training and exchange of practice for personnel of different spheres were recognized as current vector of interstate dialog.

Turkmen and Afghan leaders discuss over the telephone the agenda of cooperation
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani had a telephone conversation.
Warmly greeting each other, the Heads of friendly states have exchanged congratulations on occasion of Eid al-Adha, having expressed confidence that this beautiful holiday, which symbolizes triumph of high spiritual values like humanity, goodwill and generosity, would support the strengthening of solidarity and unity in entire Muslim community.
It was highlighted that Turkmen and Afghan nations are united by ancient tradition of friendship, mutual respect, common spiritual and historical values, which serves as reliable foundation of interstate dialog.
Having stated with delight that bilateral cooperation is developed on the principles of good neighbourliness, friendship and equality, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressed gratitude to Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for special attention and personal contribution to strengthening of fraternal relations and expansion of beneficial partnership between two countries.
During telephone conversation, number of current issues of regional and global agenda has been discussed. In particular, the subject of the coronavirus pandemic, which having covered huge geographic space, makes negative impact on life of many countries and nations.
Having highlighted that Turkmenistan entirely supports the activity of the world community in combating of COVID-19, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence in the necessity of coordinated measures on international level for successful combating of this threat that humankind is facing at the moment.
The Head of the State made special mention of the role of transit and transport Lapis Lazuli corridor, which was established under the Agreement signed between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
Opportunity to increase volumes of trades between Central Asian and European countries is appear after the start of its operation, which in the result will support to development of trade and economic relations between big regions of Eurasian continent, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted.
In this regard, the agreements reached during recent trilateral meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan have become important measure for activation of this transport corridor and cooperation on systematic base.
In addition, importance of such major projects in energy, transport and communication spheres, construction of TAPI gas line as well as Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan power and fibre optic lines, realization of which would serve to further strengthening of interstate relations, has been highlighted.
In the end of the conversation, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani exchanged the congratulations on Eid al-Adha, having wished health and success in all noble deeds to each other and prosperity to Turkmen and Afghan people.

Turkmen leader and the Vice-premier of UAE discuss important aspects of international cooperation in telephone conversation
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a telephone conversation with Vice-premier of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Dubai Muhammed Bin Rashid Al Makhtoum.
Having warmly greeted the Emir of Dubai, the President of Turkmenistan congratulated him and fraternal people of UAE with coming big holiday of Islamic world – Eid AL Adha.
Turkmen leader expressed confidence that this holly holiday, which embodies high morale, spiritual purity and humanity, would continue supporting the strengthening of solidary of Muslim ummah.
Having expressed gratitude for congratulations and good words, Prime Minister of UAE Muhammed Bin Rashid AL Makhtoum addressed return best wishes to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and to all Turkmen people.
During telephone conversation, the sides have discussed important aspects of interstate cooperation. It was noted that strengthening of diplomatic, economic and humanitarian relations between two countries meet political demands and interests of both states. The Head of Turkmenistan highlighted that all efforts would be put in order the partnership with UAE to be long, trustful and efficient.
Taking opportunity, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to His Highness for special attention and personal participation in strengthening of fraternal relations between the state and expansion of beneficial cooperation in all range of actual directions.
Global problem, which is presented by coronavirus pandemic these days, which caused crisis in international trade, disturbance of production activity and foreign economic relations, has been highlighted.
Having noted that it is necessary to consolidate efforts of all countries for efficient combating of the pandemic, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed that Turkmenistan is open for active cooperation with the world community in development of new methods of combating of this evil.
In the end, the sides exchanged congratulations on Eid Al Adha and cordial wishes, having addressed wishes of pace, wealth and further prosperity to the nations of two states.
TURKMENISTAN HAS BEEN GRANTED THE OBSERVER STATUS IN THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION
On July 22, 2020, the successive session of World Trade Organization (WTO) General Council was held in WTO headquarters located in Geneva of the Swiss Confederation, during which the application of Turkmenistan on accession to WTO as an observer was considered.
The Turkmen side was represented at the session by the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations at Geneva, as well as the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan who took part via videoconference.
In honor of assessing the request of Turkmenistan for accession to WTO in the status of an observer, a special ceremony was organized during which the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan delivered a speech on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan. During the address, he informed the participants of the General Council about the background of the accession process to the Organization, in particular about the pioneering policy of implementing the external economic activity of Turkmenistan. It was stated that the Programme on Foreign Economic Activity of Turkmenistan for 2020-2025 is a vital document in this regard.
The gaining of this status by the country is intended to contribute to the dynamic development of the national economy of Turkmenistan, strengthen its standing in regard to foreign trade, carry multilateral cooperation, attract foreign investments and improve international trade ties. This also concerns the development of commercial and trade strategies including their successful implementation.
Following the address of the Turkmen side, a number of representatives of the Organization’s member-states, including Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Panama, Paraguay, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Uruguay expressed support to the initiative of Turkmenistan on the accession to the Organization as an observer.
After the discussions, the member-states of WTO General Council unanimously adopted the resolution on granting Turkmenistan the status of an observer in WTO.
Currently there are 164 WTO member-states. Twenty four countries possess the status of an observer. Turkmenistan became the 25th country with a status of an observer.
Information on the preventive measures implemented in Turkmenistan against the coronavirus
On June 23, 2020, an announcement containing distorted information on the preventive measures implemented in Turkmenistan against the coronavirus infection was placed on the official website of the Embassy of the USA in Turkmenistan. In particular, it is asserted that the citizens with the symptoms of the disease resulting from the new type of infection are going through examination and can be sent to compulsory quarantine without the supervision of conveniences and for undefined period of time.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan emphasizes the invalidity and partiality of such informational fakes. In this regard, the official representatives of the Ministry have repeatedly informed the Ambassador of the USA to Turkmenistan about the unacceptability of spreading biased information which is not supported by facts.
Relying on the principles of openness in international cooperation on combatting the coronavirus pandemic, the Turkmen side regularly holds thematic briefing meetings for the diplomatic corps and foreign journalists during which the most complete information is presented on the preventive measures applied in Turkmenistan on infectious diseases.
Unfortunately, the American side does not take part in such meetings despite of invitations.
Based on the above said, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan announces the counterproductive nature of the actions of the American Diplomatic Mission in Ashgabat.
Turkmen-Afghan talks in the field of transport
On April 16, 2020, a video conference was held between the representatives of the “Türkmendemirýollary” agency, open joint-stock company “Demiryollary” and the Railway Authority of the Ministry of Transport of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
The Turkmen side was headed by the Chairman of the “Türkmendemirýollary” agency A.Atamyradov. The Afghan side was led by the General Director of the Railway Authority of Afghanistan Mohammad Yamma Shams.
During the meeting, issues related to the construction of the Akina-Andkhoy railway line, the work carried out under the project for the construction of the Turgundi-Herat railway were discussed.
The participants also exchanged views on optimizing transit freight traffic and wagons passing through the IRA, further developing of the transport corridor between the Lapis Lazuli agreement participating countries. Separately, issues of obtaining visas for railway workers and other issues were considered.
