  • Prime Minister’s statement on procuring new helicopters

We will sell the helicopter purchased under the previous government and intended as a luxury, and we will buy three new helicopters instead, those that will be useful for rescue and other operations, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated at today’s Government meeting.

The Prime Minister pointed out that negotiations on procuring new helicopters are underway, and that the Finance Ministry is also engaged in this process.
According to the Head of Government, all currently available helicopters are perfectly operable and in good condition.
“Mister Vakhtang Gomelauri’s Ministry is working actively on procuring three new helicopters. Although all helicopters are perfectly operable and in good condition, we always pay enormous attention to it, and we have had discussions on this issue. As you know, the state owns one expensive, luxurious helicopter purchased under the previous government for the ex-president. Tens of millions of euros was paid for this helicopter. We made a decision against using this helicopter by anyone. I also would like to underline that, despite the speculations about this helicopter being used in rescue operations, this is a lie, my friends. Of course, we had discussions on this issue, and we decided to return this helicopter to the manufacturer-to sell it, that is-and instead procure three new helicopters, the kind that will be useful for rescue and other operations. This decision has already been made, and now active negotiations are underway, and the Finance Ministry is also engaged in this process,” Irakli Garibashvili said.
