Information about the preparation of Ashgabat High-level Conference is presented at the meeting in the WHO Headquarter

Informational meeting under the chairing of Regional Director of the WHO European Regional Bureau Zsuzsanna Jakab was held during the 144th session of the WHO Executive Council in the World Health Organization Headquarter in Geneva on January 20.

Delegations of member states of international organizations as well as the ambassador of foreign states permanently accredited in Geneva took part in the meeting. The participants discussed administration and budget issues as well as the programme of activity of the World Health Organization in coming period.

Speaking at the meeting, the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan in Geneva introduced the information about the first International Conference on Prevention and Control of non-infectious diseases in Ashgabat on December 3 – 4, 2013, on which plenary session President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a speech. Ashgabat Declaration approved by the WHO European Regional Committee in 2014 has been adopted by the outcomes of this representative forum.

In this context, it was informed about the second International High-level Conference, which will be held in Ashgabat on April 9 – 10, 2019 and would be dedicated to the prevention and control of non-infectious diseases. In particular, the programme of the conference (high-level plenary sessions, thematic and interactive work group sessions) and agenda of the forum have been presented to the participants.

In the end, all member countries of the WHO were invited to participate in the forum for the development of coordinated solutions. It was mentioned that diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan in foreign countries would provide necessary support to the delegates.

    A meeting of heads of the Foreign Ministries of the Caspian states has opened in Ashgabat. Rashid Meredov met his colleagues arriving at the building of the Foreign Ministry. The first to arrive was Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who held a bilateral meeting with Meredov on the sidelines of the forum.
    Then came Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov, Foreign Minister of Iran Hussein Amir Abdullahian, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi.
    Each of them was photographed with a handshake, after which the delegations and media representatives proceeded to the meeting room.

  • POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS WERE HELD BETWEEN THE MINISTRIES OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN AND SAUDI ARABIA

    On June 23, 2022, political consultations were held in Ashgabat between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The delegation of Turkmenistan was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs B.G. Myatiev, the delegation of Saudi Arabia - by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed Abdulkareem El-Khereiji.

    During the consultations, the parties discussed key aspects of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as well as current international issues.

    It was noted with satisfaction that Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia are developing a wide and multi-level political and diplomatic dialogue on strengthening regional and world stability, countering such challenges and threats as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and other types of illegal activities, are stepping up joint efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. In this context, the importance of mutual support within the framework of major international organizations, primarily the UN, was emphasized. It was noted that Saudi Arabia invariably supports the international initiatives of Turkmenistan and is a co-author of many of them. In turn, Turkmenistan also provides support to Saudi Arabia, including on a number of draft resolutions of the General Assembly put forward by this country, as well as in the nomination of Saudi candidates to various UN structures.

    A separate topic of discussion was the creation and development of the necessary conditions for attracting investment in various sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan, the implementation of promising infrastructure projects, and industrial cooperation. In particular, it was noted that there are great opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in such areas as petrochemistry and gas chemistry. In this regard, the value of the accumulated experience of cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Saudi Fund for Development was noted.

    The parties stressed the importance of further developing cultural and scientific ties, continuing the traditions of holding mutual Days of Culture, and expanding the humanitarian dialogue between the two fraternal peoples.

    At the consultations, it was especially emphasized that the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Saudi Arabia, preparations for which are currently in full swing, will serve as a powerful impetus for the strengthening and qualitative enrichment of bilateral ties.

    Then the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov.

    During the conversation, the parties exchanged views on a wide range of bilateral relations, as well as on the regional and global agenda. It was noted that Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia are making a great positive contribution to ensuring peace and stability in Central Asia and the Middle East, are pursuing a responsible and far-sighted line aimed at normalizing and stabilizing global processes. The interlocutors agreed to continue the political and diplomatic dialogue, close cooperation in determining approaches to topical issues of world politics.

    The head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry informed the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia that Turkmenistan had decided to support the candidacy of Saudi Arabia as the venue for the World Expo 2030 and was ready to assist in the preparation of this important global event.

  • Ashgabat and Tehran to sign new cooperation documents

    President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimukhamedov, at the head of a high-ranking delegation of political and economic officials, will arrive in Tehran on Tuesday evening (June 14) for a two-day visit on the official invitation of his Iranian counterpart, Syed Ibrahim Raisi, the Mehr news agency reported on Monday.

    As a result of the meeting of the head of Turkmenistan with the President of Iran and extended negotiations with the participation of government delegations of the two countries, it is planned to sign many documents on cooperation and a memorandum of understanding on the most important issues, Mehr reports.

     

  • The possibility of desalination and water supply from the Caspian Sea to Ashgabat will be studied in Turkmenistan

    President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed to study the possibilities of building desalination plants and supplying water from the Caspian Sea to Ashgabat.

    The task was given to Deputy Prime Minister Annageldy Yazmyradov during a working meeting on the state of affairs in the agricultural sector and water issues, which the head of state held via videoconference on Wednesday.

    The President also instructed to establish a government commission headed by Yazmyradov and including in its composition the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, the State Committee of Water Management, the Supreme Control Chamber, scientific institutions, regional administrations, etc.

    Serdar Berdimuhamedov pointed out the need to check the channels of the Amu Darya, the Karakum River and other rivers for their condition and fullness in order to eliminate the factors interfering with this, to clean and concreting channels and watercourses.
