The main New Year Tree lighting ceremony takes place in Ashgabat

The main New Year Tree of the country was lit up with bright light of colourful garlands on the square in front of Älem Cultural and Entertainment Centre, having announced that New Year 2019 is coming soon.

Organizers of current event have made their best, having transformed Älem Square into fairy take oriental country using the stories from the book of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov “Turkmenistan – the Heart of the Silk Road”.

Arch shaped construction decorated with bright lights invites to New Year fairy tale. Numerous LED compositions and figures are projected at the stage with characters of Turkmen national fairy tales in combination with modern and New Year symbols. Piggy, the symbol of 2019, sees off joyful alabay puppy, the symbol of 2018, in the foreground.

Tall ‘yurtas’ with generous gifts and treats shining with filigree gold represent four corners of the Earth. Caravan of camels walking along snow-filled roads is loaded not only with oriental gifts but also with sweets and children toys.

One can meet Ak Pamyk, beautiful girl and her seven brothers, young beauties spending their time playing national musical instruments and characters of modern fairy tales and cartoons.

Fluffy beauty in splendid dress of thousands shining toys crowned with octagon start with figure of 2019 is in the centre of impressive panorama. The height of the tree is 38 meters. Thousands of young Ashgabat citizens and guests of the capital, folk and dance bands, circus and theatre artists in carnival dress, characters of favourite fairy tales have gathered together around the tree in euphoria waiting for celebration performance.

Ayaz Baba and Garpamyk are hurrying to join them for the celebration. Having climbed down for distant Koytendag Mountains, white-beard old man went on journey around the country. Amul Stronghold, which used to be one of the largest cities of ancient Khorasan, was the first destination point in his route across Lebap Velayat. The travellers have also visited modern Turkmenabat, on the central square of which the guests took part in ceremonial meeting at the main New Year Tree of the velayat. 

Upon arrival to Murgab Oasis, the travellers have visited the observatory located in the building of Mary Velayat Library. Ayaz Baba and his companions flew y magic carpet ride to Ahal Velayat where the guests have enjoyed the performance of art bands of the region.

Traveller caravan was seen off with good wishes to the northern region of the country. the State Historical and Cultural Reserve Kunyaurgench, which is entered in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is the main sightseeing of Dashoguz Velayat. 

Thereafter, magic carpet ride took the travellers to Balkan velayat. White-marble vessel Bagtiyarlyk took them to Turkmenbashy International Seaport, which opening was one of remarkable events of the year. Performance with participation of young singer and dancers has been expanded at the square with New Year Tree in the centre.

With a wave of a magic wand, Ayaz Baba and his companions are taken to Ashgabat. Brightly decorated motorcade of white cabriolets escorted by the caravan of double-deckers with young passengers who came for celebration from different parts of the country, started moving along the main streets of the city.

The procession was greeted by numerous residents of Ashgabat and sign and dance folk groups. Having reached Archabyl Avenue and replaced the cabriolet with snow-white carriage with fast ahalteke horse, Ayza Baba and his companions arrived in the square in front of Älem Cultural and Entertainment Centre.

Finally, long-waited guests proceeded through the arch full of lights followed by joyful songs of the kids and bright carnival filled the square. Enchanting New Year performance with the participation of theatre collectives of the capital, young artists of the Children and Youth Palace and art schools as well as popular singers has expanded around New Year Tree.

Happy laughter, jokes, joyful dances and stage plays with the participation of favourite characters of national Turkmen fairly tales – all this whirlpool of amazing adventures involved not only children but numerous adults as well. Tasty treats and surprises from Ayaz Baba were the best gift for the children.

Beautiful New Year Tree, which was light up with numerous lights by the magic wand of Ayaz Baba was the top event of the celebration. All New Year trees, which were placed on the main squares of the cities and towns of our country, where bright performances have also taken place, put on the lights at this moment. The event was finished with big celebration concert at the main New year Tree of the country.

  • PILOT PROJECT OF THE GLOBAL TRANSIT DOCUMENT LAUNCHED IN TURKMENISTAN

    The launch ceremony of the pilot project of the Global Transit Document took place on August 17, 2022 at the Berkarar Hotel of the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

    The Global Transit Document (GTrD), which is a universal digital solution for the development of multimodal transportation, is the result of fruitful cooperation between the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission of the International Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) with the International Center for Transport Diplomacy, the Intergovernmental Council of Road Workers of the CIS, and the world's largest developers of IT technologies, as well as with countries that have shown interest in piloting the GTrD.

    The launch ceremony of the pilot project of the Global Transit Document was attended by the Executive Secretary of the International Center for Transport Diplomacy I.Runov, the Chairman of the Intergovernmental Council of Road Workers of the Commonwealth of Independent States B.Karimov, as well as representatives of the countries of the region - Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

    The speakers emphasized that at the turn of the third decade of the 21st century, economic realities and trends in the development of the world economy created an obvious need for the development and implementation of a unified Global Transit Document in order to optimize the management of the transport process along multimodal corridors connecting states of different regions and continents.

    The introduction of a digital platform of the global transit network based on the latest technologies using the Global Transit Document will make it possible to extend the customs guarantee and insurance regime, as well as ensure the traceability of goods and vehicles along the entire route from the starting point to the destination.

    At the end of the official launch ceremony of the pilot project of the Global Transit Document, its participants adopted a Joint Statement, in which they confirmed the readiness of the parties for further cooperation in promoting the proposal to create a global digital transit network at various levels, as well as within the United Nations.

     

  • PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TURKMENISTAN TO THE UN A.ATAEVA MET WITH L.THOMAS-GREENFIELD, PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE USA TO THE UN

    On August 17, 2022, Ambassador A.Ataeva, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, met with Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations at the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations.

    During the meeting, a constructive exchange of views took place on the issues of the upcoming 77th session of the UN General Assembly such as priority areas of the two countries in the UN and UN reforms.

    Ambassador of Turkmenistan, at the beginning of the meeting, thanked the United States for supporting the UN General Assembly resolution "Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation of Central Asia", especially noting the positive statement delivered by the US representative following the adoption of the resolution.

    A.Ataeva talked in detail about Turkmenistan's priority positions at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, outlining initiatives in the field of peace and security, sustainable development, women parliamentarians, preventive diplomacy and transport.

    During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the reform of the UN, and the UN Security Council in particular. They agreed on the need for greater transparency in the work of the UN Security Council, as well as the reform of UN structures to avoid duplication of individual functions.

     

  • Turkmenistan proposes to establish cooperation with the ports of Dubai and Abu Dhabi

    Opportunities for opening transport and logistics routes and establishing cooperation between the port of Turkmenbashi with the ports of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the integration of the Turkmen port into the world system of sea ports were discussed by Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry Rashid Meredov with the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suheil Al-Mazrui.

    They held a meeting on Monday, on the sidelines of the transport forum that opened in Avaza. The interlocutors also assessed the level of political relations, noting that an official visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the UAE will soon be organized on the invitation of President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

    And in a few weeks, on September 7-8, it is planned to hold the first meeting on a strategic dialogue between the member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the foreign ministers of the Central Asian states.
    At the talks, the huge opportunities for trade, economic and investment cooperation, the fuel and energy potential of both countries and the readiness of Turkmenistan to cooperate with the leading oil and gas companies of the Emirates were noted.

    The parties considered the promotion of projects in the gas chemical, financial and transport sectors in Turkmenistan with the participation of the UAE and a number of agreements, including financing the construction of an airport in Jebel, a hybrid power plant in the Serdar region and a chemical plant for the production of combined mineral fertilizers in Turkmenabat.

    In addition, they discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the textile industry, in the field of export of Turkmen goods to the UAE market and further to the countries of the Gulf and Africa. Attention was paid to the issues of water desalination, desertification and environmental protection.

    It was expressed a desire to intensify cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Renewable Energy Agency – IRENA (Masdar, UAE).

    Turkmenistan is ready, within the framework of partnership with IRENA, to hold international scientific conferences and other events, as well as to become a place for the development and testing of alternative energy technologies that can be used in the countries of Central Asia. In this regard, it is proposed to open an IRENA Coordinating Office in Central Asia.

    Transport connectivity is critical to the future of our countries, in particular to reduce the cost of trade and improve access to global markets, promote the integration of economies and people, and achieve the SDGs.

    This was stated by UN Secretary General António Guterres in his address to the participants of the Ministerial Transport Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries “Ashgabat Process: Funding for Better Connectivity”.

    – For various reasons, today there are great obstacles to improving the transport interconnection of landlocked countries-Guterres said. The large number of border crossings, complex transport and border procedures, and restrictions imposed by the pandemic have resulted in costs and delays.

    – We must work together to return transport to its previous path of development,” the UN Secretary General said. – For landlocked countries, this need can be addressed through a roadmap that describes the activities and the cost-effectiveness of the activities.

    Guterres called on the participating countries of the Avaza conference to use innovation and technology to achieve the set goals, as well as join forces to ensure sustainable transport and real interconnection of landlocked countries.

  • A REGULAR MEETING OF THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR UNESCO WAS HELD AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN

    On July 25, 2022, a regular meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was attended by the heads and representatives of this commission, relevant ministries and departments of the country, and the media.

    The main topic of the agenda was the results of the work of the Commission for the first half of 2022, as well as plans for the upcoming period.

    Information was provided on the work done in the reporting period in accordance with the tasks and instructions of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as the tasks outlined in the Commission's Plan for 2022 and the Plan of joint activities with UNESCO for 2021-2023.

    During the meeting, such topical issues as strengthening the role of our country in large structural divisions of UNESCO, joining the UNESCO Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications Related to Higher Education in the European Region, expanding international scientific cooperation, opportunities for cooperation in digital projects and information exchange were touched upon.

    A monograph "Turkmenistan-UNESCO: Let's Preserve Monuments Together" has been prepared as a manual for the international program "Memory of the World".

    Currently, the documents prepared by Turkmenistan on the inclusion of the Akhal-Teke horse breeding art, traditions of horse decoration, silk production, etc., prepared by Turkmenistan, are being considered and studied.

    It was emphasized that the accession of Turkmenistan to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage opens up broad prospects for bilateral partnership. Within the framework of the above-mentioned Convention, the National Commission of Turkmenistan is preparing a national dossier for inscription of the Koytendag mountain ecosystem into the UNESCO World Heritage List.

    The participants of the meeting paid attention to cooperation and intensification of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO in the field of sports and physical education.
