David Usupashvili visited the rehabilitation works after the natural disaster
The Speaker of Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili attended the operative briefing in Saburtalo Governor’s Board and heard the information about the disaster liquidation works. The Governor, B. Mikauradze spoke about the damage, accommodation of the local residents and measures by the coordination headquarter.
The Governor’s Board provided all damaged with alternative dwelling and this problem in Saburtalo region is eliminated. Five families refused to be evacuated from the hazard zones.
The Speaker expressed his commitment to be involved in the problem solution. He is ready to personally meet these families to convince them to leave the hazard territory.
After the briefing, the Speaker visited the restoration works at the Zoo and the Hero’s Square and attended the sitting of the ad hoc headquarter for rehabilitation works. He also made comment for media and expressed his condolences to the families of deceased.
“After this tragedy, the response was the most effective and correct – fast coordination of the City Hall and the Governmental structures which is very important. Tbilisi residences and volunteers were of great help for the city and for each other. It made possible to have the current situation – all damaged are sheltered, they are taken to various safe places. Response to the tragedy by the state structures and people is an evident example that we can be united during the hard times. I would like to live with this unity further, in order to reduce such tragedies and to establish better standards for safety of our compatriots. Infrastructure is to be developed of course but it is necessary to realize to prevent such wide-scale tragedies. I express my condolences to all the families who lost family members and I would like to wish us no more tragedies to increase standards as in construction so in planning terms. We need to better take care of our country”.
The Speaker spoke about involvement of the Parliament in rehabilitation works and noted that the Bureau will make the decision for aid to the damaged. “The Parliament will hold the hearings regarding the restoration works and will detect the reasons. We can allocate some finances for rehabilitation works and aid for the damage”.
The vast precipitates last night and river swell caused casualties and damaged infrastructure. The natural disaster damaged houses and Zoo habitants.

Video about Neutral Turkmenistan on display in Tbilisi
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan and the International Day of Neutrality from December 9, 2020, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia on large monitors installed in the center of Tbilisi has launched a video dedicated to these significant events.
This is not the first video this year dedicated to the neutrality of Turkmenistan.
Thanks to the new video, the Georgian public can get to know more about Turkmenistan, its enormous successes in political, economic and cultural life.

In downtown Tbilisi, a banner was installed in honor of the 25th Anniversary of Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan
In honor of the 25th Anniversary of Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, a banner «25th Anniversary of Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan. 2020 year - Turkmenistan-Home of Neutrality» was installed in downtown Tbilisi.
Thus, Georgia congratulated the people of Turkmenistan on the remarkable date. This is a clear example of manifestation of deep respect for the Turkmen people, great attention to significant events in the country.
The action will last until the end of the year.
В честь празднования 25-летия Постоянного Нейтралитета Туркменистана в центре Тбилиси установлен баннер «25-летие Постоянного Нейтралитета Туркменистана. 2020 год – Туркменистан – родина Нейтралитета».
Таким образом Грузия поздравила народ Туркменистана со знаменательной датой. Это наглядный пример проявления глубокого уважения к туркменскому народу, огромного внимания к значимым событиям в стране.
Акция продлится до конца года.

Opposition Reject Election Results, Hit the Streets
Georgia’s major opposition parties, including the United National Movement of ex-President Saakashvili, European Georgia, Lelo, Strategy Aghmashenebeli, Labor Party, hit the streets on Sunday afternoon, rejecting the preliminary results of the October 31 parliamentary vote, that forecast the Georgian Dream to form a third consecutive government.
The opposition claims the Georgian Dream “usurped power,” and rigged the elections, citing, among others, discrepancies in a number of final vote tallies. The key local election watchdogs said they identified the discrepancies in some 7 or 8% of the summary protocols. The opposition politicians argue the united opposition forces garnered more votes in total than the incumbent ruling party.
Protesting the “stolen elections,” the opposition leaders and protesters are rallying towards the hilltop residence of GD leader Bidzina Ivanishvili, after blocking Rustaveli Avenue, the main thoroughfare of the Georgian capital, outside the Parliament.
In the meantime, Gigi Ugulava of the European Georgia party, announced the opposition parties will organize a large-scale rally on November 8.
Georgia held Saturday’s parliamentary vote under a significantly modified system, which changed the composition of 150-member parliament to 120 MPs elected through proportional, party-lists, and 30 elected as majoritarians (from 77/73 ratio) and set threshold at 1% of votes. According to the results of 98.86% precincts counted, Georgian Dream garnered 48,1% of proportional votes, while the United National Movement-led Strength in Unity bloc came second with 27.12%. European Georgia scored third with 3.77%.
Preliminary results also show GD victory in 13 single-mandate constituencies, while runoffs are expected in 17 districts, including in all 8 districts of the capital city of Tbilisi.
MP Irma Inashvili, leader of Kremlin-friendly Alliance of Patriots party, that is at odds with UNM and other opposition parties, also announced that today her party rejects the results, vowing to hold separate rallies.

The Embassy of Switzerland welcomes the adoption of the constitutional amendments
The Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia welcomes the adoption of the constitutional amendments and trusts that the new electoral system will increase the representation of the different layers of society, including the minorities, within the new Parliament. Switzerland will assist Georgia to set up a fair and transparent electoral campaign, based on mutual respect and constructive compromise, and calls on all political actors and media to refrain from personal attacks, including against the members of the diplomatic corps.
