GIORGI MGEBRISHVILI AWARDED MIA EMPLOYEES FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DUTIES
Giorgi Mgebrishvili and Head of State Security Agency Vakhtang Gomelauri attended opening of St. George church located on the base of 1st unit of Special Tasks Department. With the support and initiative of the leadership of Special Tasks Department and personnel the construction of the church on the territory of Special Tasks First Division started in 2015. In addition to material support, employees of the mentioned department were actively involved in the construction works of the church.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili congratulated personnel of the Department with St. George’s Day and wished to serve with devotion: “I am well aware how difficult, risky and responsible is your profession. Lives and safety of our citizens often depend on your professionalism and devotion. I know that you are committed to accomplish your missions with success and ready to risk lives and health for it. I want to express gratitude for this devotion”.

The Minister of Internal Affairs hosted the State Secretary for Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of Belgium
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Vakhtang Gomelauri held the meeting with the State Secretary for Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of Belgium, Ms. Nicole de Moor, who together with the delegation is conducting the official visit to Georgia.Within the framework of the meeting hosted at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the parties discussed issues related to visa free travel of Georgian citizens to the EU/Schengen Area. Furthermore, the political and practical importance of visa-free travel regime in the process of Georgia’s European integration path was emphasized.Mr. Vakhtang Gomelauri provided detailed information regarding the measures undertaken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for successful continuation of Visa-Free travel regime and ongoing reforms.The State Secretary for Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of Belgium positively assessed the successful activities undertaken by the MIA, namely, effective implementation of the so-called Exit Control mechanism, which contributes to the prevention of abuse of visa-free regime by Georgian citizens. Furthermore, Nicole de Moor emphasized the importance of cooperation between the MIA and respective agencies of the EU for the successful continuation of visa-free travel.Within the framework of the meeting, existing successful law enforcement cooperation between Georgia and Belgium has been highlighted, as well as the prospects of future cooperation has been outlined.This is the first official visit of the State Secretary for Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of Belgium to Georgia. Within the framework of the event, the delegation will also conduct a visit to the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Tbilisi International Airport, to get acquainted with the specifics of the work and the existing infrastructure.
SPECIALIZED FIREFIGHTING AIRCRAFTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY ARE INVOLVED IN FIRE EXTINGUISHING WORKS IN BORJOMI
In Borjomi Municipality, the fire localization and liquidation works continued throughout the night. Employees of various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, as well as the relevant services of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, actively participate in fire extinguishing process. Border police helicopters resumed their work in the morning.Within the frames of the international aid, in Borjomi municipality, a firefighting aircraft with 8-ton tank of the Republic of Turkey was involved in the process of treating fire sectors from the morning. Today, two additional specialized firefighting aircrafts will be involved in fire fighting activities.Herewith, specialized firefighting train of the Railway Department will be involved in the fire extinguishing process from the morning.Due to high temperature and wind, fire sources of different complexity are still detectable on the ground. Routes leading to almost all active fire zones have already been laid with heavy machinery and tractors.All relevant fire-rescue vehicles are mobilized on the spot. Drones continue to monitor the fire.The operative management headquarters, headed by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Ioseb Chelidze, and the Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service, Temur Mghebrishvili, continue to work on the ground.MIA of Georgia
PRIME MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA HOSTED VAKHTANG GOMELAURI
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Armenia, met with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Fashinyan.At the meeting, Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed gratitude towards Nikol Fashinyan for supporting Georgia. He noted that Armenia is a very important partner and friend for Georgia.The sides stressed the importance of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Georgia and Armenia for ensuring the security of the two countries as well as the effective fight against international crime.“A few days ago, the Minister of Justice of Georgia was here, but, unfortunately, I could not meet him because of Covid-19. We summed up last year with a sitting of the Armenian-Georgian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Tbilisi. Before that, I had several meetings with the Prime Minister of Georgia, my friend Irakli Garibashvili. Our Head of Police had a previous visit to Georgia. And I think it's very important that our law enforcement systems work closely together. It is necessary for the security of our countries, for the protection of the rule of law”- stated Nikol Fashinyan.The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Fashinyan conveyed his heartfelt greetings and wishes of health to the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, who has been infected with Covid-19.During the two-day visit, Vakhtang Gomelauri held a meeting with the Chief of Police of the Republic of Armenia - Vahe Ghazaryan. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia will also visit various police units in Armenia.
SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION CONTINUES IN BATUMI
Search and rescue operations by the staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is in progress at the site of the collapsed residential building in Batumi. Late at night, rescuers found the bodies of 4 people under the rubble.As a result of several hours of intensive search and rescue operation, firefighters rescued 2 injured people from the rubble, who were transferred to the hospital and are being treated accordingly.The Minister of Internal Affairs -Vakhtang Gomelauri, the Deputy Minister- Ioseb Chelidze and the Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service -Temur Mghebrishvili remain at the site of the rescue and search operations in Batumi, to lead the rescue operation.Intensive search-and-rescue operation as well as clear-up activities are still underway at the moment.
The collapse of the residential building located on 26 May Street in Batumi
As soon as the notification on the collapse of the residential building located on 26 May Street in Batumi was received at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, rescue and police forces were mobilized at the site, as well as ambulance crews.
According to initial reports, the entrance of the residential building collapsed. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters evacuated the population from the neighboring flats of the collapsed residential building, as well as from vehicles caught in the debris.
At the moment, the area is being cleared of rubble and active search and rescue operations are underway. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation on the fact of building collapse; the information regarding the number of injured persons is being clarified at the moment.
Along with firefighters, special equipment has already been mobilized at the site, including aerial ladder fire truck. In addition, the staff of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Forensic-Criminalistics Department have also been mobilized. The additional live force is being deployed from the neighboring regions of Adjara as well.
The territory adjacent to the accident is condoned off due to security measures. The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on the citizens, as well as the representatives of all media sources on the ground, to follow the instructions of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and to observe the safety norms.
