Nodar Javakhishvili will leave post

According to reports, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Nodar Javakhishvili will leave post. As it is reported, the decision is already made in the ruling party.
There are no potential candidates who should be the next Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.
As it is reported, there are some non-official informations on changes in minister’s cabinet. Including which the Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri will leave the post. Dimitri Kumsishvili will change him. Giorgi Gakharia will lead Economy Ministry. As for the State Minister of European and EU Integration of Georgia, Davit Bakradze will be changed by Viktor Dolidze. He is the former member of Free Democrats.

    Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili and Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili met with Jihad Azour, Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund, who was on a working visit to Georgia.

    According to the administration of the Ministry of Economics, the IMF Resident Representative for Georgia, Selim Chakir as well as Deputy Ministers and the Heads of Departments of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development attended the meeting.

    The parties reviewed the issues related to cooperation between Georgia and the International Monetary Fund. The importance of the new three-year program aimed at further strengthening of macroeconomic stability, increasing medium-term growth prospects in the face of existing challenges in the region, promoting the continuation of structural reforms, including public finance management, state enterprise reforms and energy support schemes, was also covered during the meeting.

    Georgian side informed the Director for the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund about the current situation in the country’s economy, indicators of economic growth for 5 months of the current year, as well as future forecasts. It was emphasized that Georgia has quite a successful experience in managing external shocks and despite the current geopolitical shock, by implementing an immediate and effective economic policy, the economy of Georgia maintains high rates of economic growth, sustainability and macroeconomic stability.

    As Selim Chakir noted, the authorities have shown significant progress in the direction of strengthening the regulation and supervision of the financial sector. According to the Chakir, the IMF supports the economic program developed by the government, which is focused on reducing fiscal deficit, inflation and external vulnerabilities, as well as structural reforms necessary to boost growth.

    At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed readiness to continue cooperation in the process of implementing economic and structural reforms important for the country.

    CIS Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs is an executive body of the CIS that coordinates the foreign-policy activities of the CIS member states based on the decisions, taken by the Council of the Heads of States, the Council of the Heads of Government, as well as holds consultations on the world policy issues.

    The agenda of the Ashgabat meeting includes the draft documents, which are aimed at enhancing cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, ensuring security and other areas.

    CIS Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs started its meeting in a narrow format. The ministers will have to adopt the Programme of Actions for enhancing partnership between the foreign-policy ministries of the CIS member states, coordinate the documents that will be submitted to the Council of CIS Council of the Heads of States for signing on October 11. Among them is a draft Appeal of the heads of CIS member states to the peoples of the Commonwealth and the world community in connection with the 75th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic.

  • An international conference of ministers of transport began its work in Avaza

    On November 28, 2018, the International Conference of Ministers of Transport of the States Parties to the Agreement on Transit and Transport Cooperation (Lapis Lazuli) began its work in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in the city of Turkmenbashi.

    At the beginning of the conference, a congratulatory message from the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, addressed to the participants of the International Conference of Ministers of Transport of the States Parties to the Agreement on Transit and Transport Cooperation (Lapis Lazuli) was read out.

    Then the heads of the delegations participating in the International Conference of Ministers of Transport (Lapis Lazuli) made their presentations: Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan M.Chakiyev, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Achilbai Ramatov, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey Jahit Turhan, Minister of Transport of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Tahmasi Mohd Hamid and Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Akaki Sagirashvili.

    Also in the first part of the international conference, delegations discussed issues such as the role of interstate cooperation in the development of the international transport corridor Lápis-Lazuli and the importance of logistics companies in the development of transport corridors.

  • Statistic data of visa-free travel rules violations not alarming – European Integration Minister

    The statistic data on those who have allegedly violated the Georgia-EU visa-free travel regulations are not alarming and there is no problem yet. I am greatly hopeful my compatriots to show common sense, - Georgia’s State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Issues Viktor Dolidze has declared. 

    According to him, Georgia is involved in an important and different cooperation with Europol. 

    ‘We have been working on increasing the awareness of not to violate visa-free travel rules… therefore, I am hopeful for my compatriots to show common sense and if the process continues as it was so far, believe me, it will only promote increasing our mobility with the EU,’ – the Minister has remarked. 

    161 885 Georgian citizens enjoyed visa-free travel with the EU from March 28 till October 20. 9 875 out of them allegedly violated the 90-day term envisaged according to the law.

    Zurab Alavidze thanked Nodar Javakhishvili for his work and said that he would do everything possible to more effectively continue the successful work of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.
