DONOR COORDINATION GROUP MEETING WAS HELD AT MIA ACADEMY

MIA Academy hosted donor coordination group meeting which was attended by the representatives of U.S. State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) International Migration Organization (IOM) European Council and EU mission as well as attaches of Austria, France and Latvia.
At the meeting rector of the Academy Givi Mikanadze provided guests with detailed information on planned and ongoing activities of the educational facility.
Members of donor coordination group discussed results of needs analysis and the prospects of implementation of joint projects in the future.
At the end of the meeting guests were shown academy infrastructure, study classes and gym, mock jury court and BCP, forensic mobile lab, real and virtual shooting ranges.

    In Borjomi Municipality, the fire localization and liquidation works continued throughout the night. Employees of various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, as well as the relevant services of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, actively participate in fire extinguishing process. Border police helicopters resumed their work in the morning.

    Within the frames of the international aid, in Borjomi municipality, a firefighting aircraft with 8-ton tank of the Republic of Turkey was involved in the process of treating fire sectors from the morning. Today, two additional specialized firefighting aircrafts will be involved in fire fighting activities.
    Herewith, specialized firefighting train of the Railway Department will be involved in the fire extinguishing process from the morning.
    Due to high temperature and wind, fire sources of different complexity are still detectable on the ground. Routes leading to almost all active fire zones have already been laid with heavy machinery and tractors.
    All relevant fire-rescue vehicles are mobilized on the spot. Drones continue to monitor the fire.
    The operative management headquarters, headed by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Ioseb Chelidze, and the Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service, Temur Mghebrishvili, continue to work on the ground.

  • GIVI MIKANADZE PARTICIPATED IN THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE EUROPEAN SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP

    The member of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee assigned for the youth sphere, Givi Mikanadze participated in the opening ceremony of the European School Summer Camp in Ikalto organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, LEPL Youth Agency and the EU.

    The Summer Camp will host 100 persons of the age of 14-18 from 6 EaP member states (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia).

    The opening ceremony of the 2-week Camp was as well attended by the Deputy Sports Minister, Irakli Giviashvili, Deputy Mayor of Telavi, Pikria Ushitashvili and the representatives of the EU Mission to Georgia and various agencies. G. Mikanadze addressed the youth eligible for the first enrollment and underlined the state policy prioritizing the promotion of the youth.

    He stressed the importance of inter-cultural dialogue, links and further cooperation and welcomed the initiative of the Ministry and the Youth Agency to facilitate the organization of similar camps and pledged political support.

     

  • THE PARLIAMENT OF GEORGIA TO SHARE THE OPEN GOVERNANCE EXPERIENCE WITH MOROCCO

    Within the PACE Spring Session, the member of the Parliamentary Delegation, Givi Mikanadze held a meeting with the representatives of the PACE Parliamentary Support Project.

    CoE, funded by the EU, implements the project in Morocco facilitating the set-up of the Open Governance Council. The parties discussed the experience of the Georgian Parliament.

    G. Mikanadze introduced the main directions concerning the cooperation of the Parliament with the civil society, Parliamentary openness, transparency and civic engagement.

    The CoE representatives gave a positive assessment to the experience of the Georgian Parliament and expressed their will to reflect the successful practice of the Georgian Parliament in their survey, as well as to arrange the exchange visits for MPs. The parties agreed on further cooperation and exchange of additional information and organization of the visits.

  • The collapse of the residential building located on 26 May Street in Batumi

    As soon as the notification on the collapse of the residential building located on 26 May Street in Batumi was received at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, rescue and police forces were mobilized at the site, as well as ambulance crews.

    According to initial reports, the entrance of the residential building collapsed. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters evacuated the population from the neighboring flats of the collapsed residential building, as well as from vehicles caught in the debris.

    At the moment, the area is being cleared of rubble and active search and rescue operations are underway. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation on the fact of building collapse; the information regarding the number of injured persons is being clarified at the moment.

    Along with firefighters, special equipment has already been mobilized at the site, including aerial ladder fire truck. In addition, the staff of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Forensic-Criminalistics Department have also been mobilized. The additional live force is being deployed from the neighboring regions of Adjara as well.

    The territory adjacent to the accident is condoned off due to security measures. The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on the citizens, as well as the representatives of all media sources on the ground, to follow the instructions of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and to observe the safety norms.
