Giorgi Mgebrishvili met with Chinese Ambassador to Georgia

The Interior Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili met with Chinese Ambassador to Georgia Ji Yanchi. According to the Ministry, Giorgi Mgebrishvili presented implemented and planned reforms. He highlighted some main issues including police work, civic oriented police and border issues.
The Interior Minister said to the China’s Ambassador that one of the priorities is fight against crime and the use of modern technologies.
The sides also discussed the issue of deepening cooperation.

  • Georgia to introduce Chinese to schools in 2019-2020

    The Chinese language will be to be introduced as an elective subject in Georgian schools from 2019-2020. 

    Georgia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport says the Chinese language will be the second foreign language in schools that are interested. 

    The ministry added that the Chinese language will be taught as a second foreign language from the 5th grade. 

    "The Chinese language program has already been developed. As you know, the English language is the first foreign language in our schools, while the Chinese language can be chosen by schools as the second foreign language together with other European languages ," the Ministry reports. 

    Several days ago Mikheil Batiashvili, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Ji Yanchi signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming at promoting the Chinese language in Georgia. 

    The memorandum is based on an agreement signed between Georgia and China in the field of education, which envisages boosting relationship and cooperation between the two countries in all directions of education. It also envisages the development of relations between the educational institutions, exchange of academic staff and creating student exchange programs. 

    According to Batiashvili, China is one of the main partner and friend countries of Georgia and cooperation in education and science fields is crucial. 

    The minister noted that learning the Chinese language will give the youth new opportunities to implement business projects with Chinese partners.

  • Georgian Prime Minister’s Meeting with Chinese Ambassador

    Today, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze held a meeting with Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Georgia Ji Yanchi.
    The discussion during the meeting revolved around the relations between Georgia and China across a variety of areas and the growing economic and trade dynamic. The importance of further developing the trade relations between the two countries was underlined.
    According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, China's becoming Georgia's main trade partner is one of the Government's top priorities. The meeting emphasized the necessity of high-level exchange visits between the countries.
    Special attention was paid to the significant growth of Chinese investments in Georgia's economy. As the Head of Government pointed out, Chinese companies create additional motivation in terms of attracting foreign investments in Georgia. Emphasis was also placed on China's technological achievements and the importance of sharing technological experience with Georgia. The Prime Minister of Georgia and the Chinese diplomat discussed the Georgian Prime Minister's upcoming visit to China in early November.
    Special attention during the meeting was paid to the dire human rights and humanitarian situation in Georgia's occupied regions. The Chinese diplomat reaffirmed firm support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
    The conversation during the meeting also involved people-to-people relations and the further development of the historical and cultural relations between the two nations. The Prime Minister of Georgia offered the Chinese Ambassador to open a Chinese cultural center in Georgia.

  • David Zalkaliani has met the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia

    Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Georgia  Ji Yanchi.
    The sides discussed important issues on the agenda of bilateral relations, as well as possibilities to deepen political, economic and humanitarian co-operation.

    Discussions also focused on the issues relating to co-operation in multilateral formats, including within the UN.
    The sides discussed the importance of exchanging high-level visits. Special attention was paid to Georgia’s participation in the China-Eurasia exhibition due to take place in Ürümqi on 30-31 August, and the international import exhibition scheduled in Shanghai, on 5-10 November.
    The Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for China’s firm position regarding Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and reaffirmed, for his part, Georgia’s support for the One China Policy.
    Ji Yanchi congratulated David Zalkaliani on his appointment as Foreign Minister and expressed the hope for the further development of China-Georgia relations.

  • Fire in Akhaltsikhe municipality is localized

    Emergency Situations management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received notification from Emergency Response Center according to which fire broke out on the slope of the mountain, located near to Sviri village, Akhaltsikhe. Several minutes later after receiving the report, dozens of firefighters had operatively already arrived at the scene with firefighting technic.

    Fire-extinguishing activities are led by the Minister of Internal Affairs –Giorgi Mgebrishvili and head of Emergency Situaations Manageent Agency- Nikoloz Siradze.

    More than 100 of firefighters of the Emergency Situations management Agency were involved in the fire-extinguishing activities. Due to the difficult relief, Border Police helicopter and 170 employees of Special Tasks Department were involved in fire liquidation activities.

    Fire-rescuers and Border Police helicopter carried out all necessary measures to localize the fire. At this moment the fire is localized and there is no risk of spreading fire. Liquidation activities are currently underway to extinguish particular fire pockets.
