SOCAR continues supporting the government of Georgia-Rovnag Abdullayev

SOCAR will continue to support the government of Georgia - the SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said at the joint press-conference with Vice Premier, Minister of Energy Kakha Kaladze.
According to him, SOCAR has been operating in Georgia for 10 years and this company has been implementing large investments.
“We are pleased that our partnership will be further modified and we have visions of the future. The agreement had been made to ensure a stable gas supply of Georgia", - he said.
Mr. Abdullayev thanked SOCAR employees, who, as he said, prepared high quality contract.

    Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia met Rovnag Abdullayev, President of SOCAR State Oil Company of Azerbaijan today.

    Namely, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia has been instructed by the Government of Georgia to negotiate with SOCAR a deal to import 200 million cubic meters of the so-called social gas with a reduced tariff from Azerbaijan to Georgia. Amendments were made to the existing agreement on social gas supply originally signed in 2016. Signing ceremony held today engaged Natia Turnava, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia; Giorgi Bakhtadze, CEO of Oil and Gas Corporation and Rovnag Abdullayev, President of SOCAR after a meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia.

    As a result of the referred agreement. Government of Georgia will be able to maintain the stability of natural gas price for citizens of Georgia.

    It was underlined that after the completion of the fourth stage of the South Gas Corridor, which envisages the transportation of Shah Deniz gas to the European market, will channel higher volumes of Azerbaijani gas through Georgia. At the same time, the country will be able to purchase more concessional Azerbaijani gas to meet its domestic demand.

    Meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia and signing ceremony was attended by Faig Guliyev, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of Azerbaijan to Georgia; Mahir Mamedov, CEO of SOCAR Energy Georgia; Elshad Nasirov, President of SOCAR for Investments and Marketing; Vagif Aliyev, Director of Investments at SOCAR.

  • Official visit of the president of Congress to Georgia

    22-25 February, Georgia – The President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Anders Knape, will pay an official visit to the country. Accompanied by Congress Secretary General Andreas Kiefer, the President will meet in Tbilisi with the Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the Deputy Chairman of Parliament Kakhaber Kuchava, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili, and the Public Defender Nino Lomjaria. Meetings are also scheduled in Gori with the Mayor of the city and the Governor of Shida Kartli region, as well as with the Georgian Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and with the members of the Georgian delegation to the Congress.

    The only host city which is not represented in campaign is Saint Petersburg due to political tension between countries and Russian occupation of Georgian territories. 

  • Prime Minister's Meeting with SOCAR President

    Today, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia held a meeting with Rovnag Abdullayev, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

    SOCAR's investment projects implemented in Georgia were the key topic of the discussion. The meeting was attended by Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, General Director of SOCAR Energy Georgia Mahir Mammadov, Head of the SOCAR Investments Department Vagif Aliyev, and Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Dursun Hasanov.

  • Georgian parliamentary speaker Irakli Kobakhidze resigned from his post

    Georgian parliamentary speaker Irakli Kobakhidze resigned from his post on June 21 following overnight clashes between police and demonstrators outside of the parliament in Tbilisi.

    A statement on Kobakhidze's resignation was read out to journalists in Tbilisi on June 21 by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the secretary-general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, after a meeting of the party leadership.

    Although Kobakhidze was standing in the briefing room while the statement was being read out to journalists, he left the room without making any comment.

    Georgian opposition leaders earlier on June 21 vowed to return to the streets of Tbilisi on the evening of June 21 to call for the resignations of I. Kobakhidze and Georgia's interior minister.

    Demonstrators also are demanding early parliamentary elections in response to the political crisis that has erupted following the overnight violence.

    Grigol Vashadze, chairman of the United National Movement party, called for demonstrators to gather for a rally beginning at 7 p.m. local time near the parliament building where the clashes occurred overnight.

    Irakli Kobakhidze was elected as the Speaker of the Parliament on November 18, 2016.

    MP Archil Talakvadze is expected to replace I. Kobakhidze.
